iPhone 6S Plus

I just signed up for a new 128GB Plus for $28 per month though Sprint. And every year when the fall comes I automatically get the new iPhone. Do you guys in Europe have a similar deal?

  • Ha, I wish there was.

  • In the UK we are expected to pay a premium for many things. I suppose we have it good in many ways too, so I not complaining.

  • That's too bad. You guys lift up the less fortunate with your taxes. Unfortunately we have a lot of assholes in this country who wield a lot of power because of our system of government. The good thing is the under 50 crowd has the right attitude so things will be made right once the baby boomers die off! :-)

  • Keep in mind though that the $28 per month deal is a lease. I'm holding onto my 4s as long as I can because I don't want to lease a phone. The companies have stopped subsidizing phone prices. So, you have "No contract" but you then either buy your phone at full price, buy it in 24 payments, which is due in full if you leave the service, or lease it and give it back after a year, at which time spent sells it as pre-owned.

Every Company is like that, so not singling out Sprint, who i also use. I have a great deal on a plan though and the second I want a new phone I need a new plan that is more expensive too.

First world problems for sure either way...

  • It doesn't matter to me if I own or lease the phone. I love technology so getting the iPhone every year is my crack. I would do it with the iPad if I could. Unfortunately there is nothing to subsidize.

I'd up the age range there bud, the boomers are in their 60's, and 50 something's are suffering just as much from their legacy

You said "The good thing is the under 50 crowd has the right attitude so things will be made right once the baby boomers die off" - which seems to suggest the over 50 crowd have the wrong attitude, have all the power and baby boomer goodies. Might be true for the over 60's in the UK, but my generation of 50 something's grew up with 'where's everything gone?' realisation when we discovered Thatcher had sold everything off (council houses, etc.) to the previous generation so we had nowhere to live, crap education (mostly) and no jobs. In all not the best start in life.

If you're going to make an age-related statement about attitude and baby-boomers I'd just correct that to "the under 60 crowd", and then wait for 60-something forum members to complain ;)

    I thought iOS is a religion..... :)

  • Sorry monzo. What I'm talking about is that in the United States there's a large group of older people who vote conservative. You've got it right in Europe. Our system of government gives too much power to the few. With Obama and the rise of Bernie Sanders the US is becoming more progressive. Our problem is the older generation keeps electing Republicans to the House.

We have conservatives over here too, our Prime Minister is one. I had an argument this week with my mother-in-law over the importance of singing the national anthem.... She thinks that people who don't like singing God Save the Queen should be deported, I told her I was one of them, didn't end well...

(edit) Actually my in-laws are the perfect example of why politics and conversation don't mix. I get on really well with both my father-in-law and my mother-in-law, I can have great conversations and a good laugh with them, even though their political views are the diametric opposite of mine. A political discussion would be worthless since none of us would ever be able to change the other person's views, it's best to just drop the subject.

Neither in this case, it was the age reference that caused me to respond - @mkell424 is a good guy though so I'm not going to get offended ;)

I disagree, I think there's a general trend in the UK not to talk about it - which means people only digest the information they're fed by the right-wing controlled media. Jeremy Corbyn is a breath of fresh air, and has got people engaged in politics again. I managed to talk two relatives into changing votes from Burnham to Corbyn, just by correcting some of the media lies that have been told about him.

I think you need to forget the generation element. Yes there's a tendency for older people who have money and nice pensions to vote conservative, but there are plenty of older folk who aren't that lucky and need a more socialist government to represent their needs. In this country there are just as many young right-wingers as there are older ones.

Ageism, like any other ism is just a convenient media lie to get the general population kicking against itself so the establishment can carry on creaming off the profits.

Don't believe everything the established media tells you - they're feeding it to you for their own reasons.

  • has that 'dropping the subject' actually worked out for anybody in all of these years?
me thinks not, why outlaw the truth.

the fudge sickle heads may be dying off but they had children, allot of young people in the u.s. are race-tarded

  • I wonder if there's ever been a person who changed their political view based on a conversation? Certainly not from a social media post! (One of the things I most certainly do NOT miss from social media!!!!).

  • Personally, I like to use things for as long as they last / are still current enough to work with. I don't like the disposable nature of the wanting of the new and chucking away the 'old' . Environmentally, these things don't just disappear.

@Monzo, I invited Corbyn round for fish and chips on Friday night and the git snubbed me :)

The swine - that's the last time I vote for him! :)

  • I used to have money, mortgage and home studio. My illness has ate most the money away and now I live supported by benefits between periods of when I'm well enough to work. My home studio is long gone, replaced by my iPad.

I find politics particularly frustrating. Conservatives, labour, whoever, they all try to label and fit me neatly into a box. They have two boxes for myself...fit for work or not fit for work. When I asked for help to become self employed. To be able to work when my illness allows, which can vary day by day, they said we can't give you that help until you have been unfit for work for at least 18 weeks!

Politics in the UK is no longer a case of right and left, just media fuelled policies delivered by those who have never had to sell all to keep the food on the table. All the programs about benefit scroungers, showing the rare few that are able to use the system, while most either live in debt or rarely live.

When I had a profession and money I was welcomed by politics. I've been taken out for meals by politicians. Wined and dined. Now I just get the cards through my door before the next round of elections.

My profession as a Mental Health Nurse working with people with drug and alcohol problems brought me in touch with many that struggled with politics. The policies would change and then we would be the ones on the front line having to explain that everything we were doing to help was wrong and this new way is the right way!

O I'm ranting....my apologies. Yeah it's funny, my tax rebate from working years ago bought me my iPad, but even when I go to see the powers that be, they can't understand why I don't have a mobile phone....surely everyone has a mobile phone?

I love iOS and cheap apps. My next good period when my health lets me work, will hopefully be long enough to save up towards my next iPad for when this one no longer works. Yes I stand up and say loud and proud...I'm an addict. Give me my iOS fix!

  • @monzo My parents are 73 and 74 and they are active in progressive politics. We talk in blundt terms and they talk about people in their generation voting against their own interests. :)

  • I realise most people will not read my above post lol

I read it too, and hope things improve so you can get back to work.

I think for many years there hasn't been much choice between parties, but hopefully that's now changed.

Nothing to do with the 6s, but politics directly affects us all, and our ability to find the time, and finances to create music.

  • @monzo

Thanks and true, the music remains what we all want here. They can take away my iPad, but they can't take away the tunes we all hear....out with the pots and pans we used as kids to make beats

  • Whether you're left, right or centre in politics I think the old saying applies, "you can please some of the people some of the time...". There will always be people who benefit and others who don't, and in the case of @Fruitbat1919 people who get left behind or pushed from pillar to post. It's the way civilisation has been for thousands of years. I don't think anyone's going to change this any time soon.

  • @Beathoven

One thing you can always guarentee in life, is that change will come. It may be for the better or worse for some, but it will come. It may be quick or take time, but it can often be violent and disruptive.

Civilisation is only that mark on the paper by those that write our laws, until it is burnt down and rewritten again and again. Our lives are often like some of the best albums of all time. They have the first play. We enjoy Some parts better than others. We play our favourite tracks until the needle wears the grooves. Often in time they become worn and jaded. They become comfortable to listen to when times are hard, yet we still are curious and need to listen to something new. Eventually our lives dictate we change the record and through no fault of our own, we find ourselves having to listen to the dismal chart music forced upon us by the worlds radio. But, we still find ourselves humming our favourite tunes and believing that one day a new radio channel will exist. A channel that plays a music that can stay in our hearts and minds. Music created to last and not just be a jingle to hook those voters until the next voting is done.

  • I think leasing, even at as little as $28 isn't such a good deal. If you own the phone at the contract you can get back some of the cash you've spent by selling it on or keep it as a second device.

Sorry, I'm not going to join the baby boomers conversation. Can't even be asked to bend my brain cells to do the maths. I like Mr Corbyn though.

  • So did I until he became leader. At least he held firm to his convictions whether you think they are right or wrong. Now he is starting to backtrack a bit to conform and will end up just like the others.
