Best iOS compositions

Ok...highly subjective, but if I wanted to showcase what could be created on an iOS device, what would you recommend?

The first that comes to my mind..."The Fall", by Gorillaz.

  • I would suggest checking the soundclouds of sinking feeling and pants of death

  • Thanks guys...great suggestions so far. Everyone else...don't be shy...even if it's your own material. I'll be presenting this to a group of seniors who likely have no idea what is possible with mobile music production, so all input is welcome.

  • +1 for sinking feeling, but fun junkie says he is showcasing to a bunch of "seniors", I do not think promoting pants of death to such people will go down well considering some of his unecessarily grotesque song titles that really are off putting imho

  • Sinking feeling for abstract crazy yet totally perfect sonic manipulations

Red sky lullaby for a real polished variegated sound

Matt fletcher for his dnb stuff

    Smite matter for ambient

If you want deep polished house, I'd like to shamelessly suggest my track:

  • Keep 'em coming. I appreciate all the suggestions. The seniors (hell, I'm close to that myself) probably have a good deal of music knowledge, with several who are likely to be musicians. I'm not sure how receptive they will be to more edgy material though, as @touchconspiracy indicated. Regardless, some might be open to it, and others on the forum might appreciate it as well, so any and everything is welcome.

Thanks @touchconspiracy - very kind... @funjunkie27 - since i;ve been very kindly mentioned - if you want one of my more accessible drum and bass tracks (starts out quite 'commercial' sounding and poppy) then try this... All done in Gadget with the vocal samples from Converse Rubber Tracks Sample Library imported into Bilbao. Mastered in AudioMastering and MasterRecord... (also some drums from DrumJam and the big bass sampled from Thor and messed with).

  • @touchconspiracy - I love that track by the way - I think it might be your best.

The second comment in each Song Of The Month thread club holds a menu of every submission. That should give you plenty to show off the range of iOS music. There have been many great pieces submitted.

Also @MusicInclusive recently posted some orchestral pieces that were pretty impressive.

  • GalaxyExplorer was all iPhone. All his stuff was 2013 and earlier I think

  • @Jocphone - it did dawn on me that the SOTM threads would be a treasure trove, and they are. I just need to dig through them to find what can be used.

Thanks for that @MF2K....I'll be using that and the @touchconspiracy contribution. Both are great examples!

I recall hearing some of GalaxyExplorer's stuff some time back. I'll revisit it. Thanks @Hmtx.

  • Thanks Matt, I think so too and it's had great feedback. I hit a higher standard for myself with it but lol..it's hard to keep it up..gonna have to slow down and regather my energy

  • Yes, I forgot galaxy explorer , he's very very good

That's true.... but he doesn't exist anymore since a while ;)

  • Yeah....I was hitting roadblocks trying to find him.

  • Try these from me - both 100% iOS

  • I bet there is a lot of published music that was either conceived or roughed-out on an idevice, or even used on a track in the studio, but we will probably never know.

  • @Simon_Acetone like the Berlin/Baden story. Found/find the music/backtrack largely generic, but as it's a second fiddle to the narrative that matters less than it might. The voice and delivery is intriguing. Good writing, but poor end. Which is a plus, in the sense that you/she has a story interesting enough and quirky enough to keep the listener (or this one :) going along with you, but the ending tailed off (for me). Not the sum of its parts. BUT I'm only being this critical because it feels very close to getting all the way there. OF COURSE would have a lot more to say if this was a SOTMC entry :)

  • One of my all time favorite electronica albums happens to be produced on an iPhone (NanoStudio and and a pair of Sennheiser HD25 headphones).

Yep... but does it really matter? I think no one today can say if a sound coming from an idevice or a desktop or a real instruments after a good mixing/mastering. If i import an sample into an iOS app and compose my music there....it is still an iOS music piece?
When i made iPhone 4 only tracks under my old "Galaxyexplorer" name i even felt i was cheating since i used a lot Alchemy in some tracks (which we know is just a synth player) and here and there a loop which was maybe created on hardware or other software before imported into apps etc. But i really loved it doing on my iPhone 4 only for sure. These days i think it´s not possible and/or necessary to seperate music via devices.
But i really would like to try to make again some iPhone only tracks just for fun ;)

I just think that it´s not the device which makes the music awesome.... it is the music which makes the music awesome! :D

+1. Great album. Amazing achievement. Surely mastered afterwards?

  • How about a guitarist who records a song with just the guitar and iOS amp processing? Is this iOS music?

I would like to suggest a really nice guitar piece by A Multitude of One:

I know, I know, but his new persona isn't quite the same champion of iPhone only music ;-) ;-)

  • I would like to present the full range of iOS possibilities, so external instruments added in are certainly something that would be of interest. Some great options to choose from already! Thanks to all!

Who knows.... even the old star wars guys coming back. Return of the Galaxyexplorer.... quite possible ;)

The story is all about the journey and not the destination.

    Leave 'em wanting more...

    What's SOTMC?!

Ah, I recognize that line and have used it many times myself, but am also reminded of that Great American Wisdom don't bullshit a bullshitter :)

SOTMC is this forum's 'Song of the Month Club'.

I checked out the GE profile and it was some bloke singing, badly, over guitar or piano. I'm guessing this isn't the saviour of iOS music.

  • haha^

the real GalaxyExplorer has erased himself from soundcloud, right @Cinebient?
