Hey don't feel bad, I don't totally understand DD either and I wrote it! I know what I put in there and the theory behind it but there are so many permutations that it's almost impossible to truly "understand" in the traditional sense because you are always discovering something new with DD. I'm glad people like the new Zenterface because I wanted to make DD more fun to play with and to explore the possibilities. Remember to mess with the Measures setting in the rectangular control up top. Swipe right and left to adjust the number of measures. Then when you adjust the wave handles you can make patterns that repeat over more than one measure.
No sound on iPad Air , iOS 8.4.1.
Is it just me?
@Tickletiger....I'm on an iPad 4 on 8.4.1 and don't have a problem. You might have the audio/midi setting to just send to midi. Also, there's a switch to reset the audio. If neither of these are the culprits, you should reset your device (home and power buttons pressed until you see the Apple logo.)
Thanks, problem solved, Funjunkie27
!!
Good to hear it @Tickletiger.
Open the zenterface. On the right hand side half way down is a lock icon. Press that to unlock. Can't send picture as it disappears once installed.
Hope that helps, my memory is phasy at best lol
@Flo26
The lock is missing on your pics. Have you tried saving? Maybe you have the iap free?
You found out?
@funjunkie27 how can I slow down that dd acorn propeller? Already am at 15bpm, and it's pretty fast still?
Dunno @crzycrs - I just checked it at 60bpm, and it seems to be spot on. What is your clock option set to....internal, external, or off? I thought it might relate to the note beat value....which shouldn't be the case, but changing it doesn't affect the bpm. IS it doing that on all the tracks?
Hey, immersing in it atm, with 12 bpm and the tiny hat resolution wide, there's quite some steppin' clock runs thru in 20 secs. About little bit more than 70 beats. Where's the clock? Midi channel is fixed to 10. cheers, crs
The clock is in the settings. You can try uploading the project in the community, and I'll take a look at it.
A very beautiful interface, very unfamiliar yet, complex and leaving something to learn, liking the flowerpainting - wishing You a nice weekend (Strange phenomena spreading on the midi channels ...)
Very cool Peter! Switching between Zen and standard is a blast and really opens things up. Highly recommend that users try this with midi or custom samples to get a drug free mind altering experience.
I enjoyed that vid!
:-)
Try this while playing with DD and the wave maps...
Audiobus preset 'Melter': http://preset.audiob.us/PAYMRaVb25KOAyP
does it have sample auditioning before loading?, is it pattern based?, can each pattern have it's own tempo and swing? does it export seamless loops?
can someone give a summary of the fx?
Impressive software, thanks for the video
@kobamoto - it's not a typical sequencer, but I'll try to answer your questions...yes, you can audition the samples prior to loading. It can be operated in a linear mode or pattern based. Each sequence in the pattern can have its on tempo and swing (I believe...haven't done much with it though.) It can export seamless loops. There's a record function for the audio, and you can set that to record manually or for a specific time or number of beats/measures. The fx are minimal....filter, distortion, and reverb. The fx are lacking and I'd love to see IAA effects or the ability to send tracks through different AB pipes to apply the desired effect to each track.
got it, thanks funkjunkie! i will request suite of fx ala sidechain, delay, glitches, shifters, resampling, and sample slicing. I will def be supporting this dev now.
Hope it helped @ kobamoto. The dev is great for taking feedback.
Different Drummer is the only music app that I feel like is literally a scientific discovery.
Don't get me wrong, there are many amazing experimental apps that are true genius.
But the application of wave forms the way Different Drummer does it is so amazing and novel.
@johnfromberkeley +1 too. The concept of using waves for rhythm is genius. It's amazing enough that you can overlay a wave that extends for a bar...a measure...or 3,000 measures, but to have added the ability to overlay multiple waves, with different shapes, and have each one control rests, ties, notes, velocity....mind is blown! Now to tame it.
Thanks for saying that @johnfromberkeley. I actually did feel like I discovered something (in a humble way) the first time I applied the wave math to musical structure. I knew I was on to something big and I have to thank my liberal arts training at St. John's College (highly recommended for those with kids thinking about college) for allowing me to explore the idea in a methodical way. You know it's good when the deeper you explore the more you find. I still haven't found the bottom of this well and you users are every bit as much a part of it as me, if not more so!
Does anyone have a problem importing samples?
I get the announcement to update AudioShare.....
No problem here @soundklinik.
So what's going on???
I'm not saying it's DD, but that's the only app with that problem...
I'm gonna delete/reinstall DD to see...
Thanks @funjunkie
In iOS 9 Apple made a change to inter app security. I'll need to release a new version that gives AudioShare "permission" so hang tight. Try the Copy and Paste from AudioShare or other sources. Also there is still Dropbox import.
Makes sense...I was using iOS 8.4 when it worked for me.
