Probably my sister will update tomorrow, but I won't check it out until saturday.
I've just finished to make a list of all my (music) apps, and check their compatibility with iOS 9, or at least how they behave, if not written in the App Store description. Since 10 days or more now, seeing all these updates, everyday, I really thought it could be done... But after checking my list, and even if I use 20% of the apps installed on my iPad, I'm not so confident..
So, I will go to the essential, and ask you about my two major interrogations : Auria and Beatmaker 2.
About Auria, without speaking of Audiobus, how does it handles the IAA instruments and FX apps which are "fully" compatible with iOS 9 ?
And for BM2, for those who has practiced it under iOS 9, what can you say about it ?
Your feedbacks would be much appreciated, thanks a lot !
Cyril, to be honest, if you have no real reason to go to iOS9, aside from just wanting iOS9, and all your apps are working fine now, just don't bother yet. What's the point? There is nothing particularly marvellous in iOS9 that is going to make anything that much better.
@cyril777
Both Beatmaker2 and Auria are in need of updates for iOS 9. If you are reliant on these 2 apps, it would not be wise to update to iOS 9 imho.
@rickwaugh and @Fruitbat1919
Thank you for these wise advices. Indeed, the main reason for moving to iOS 9 is curiosity, a handful of features on certain apps I've got, but not music apps ! So, like both of you said, if everything works fine, why changing it ?
Thanks for your opinions
For the brave souls who did jump into 9.xx, I have to say that for me its high point so far has been the ability to integrate content blockers into Safari. The browsing experience, speed and data usage are much, much better. And to me at least, even though I try to use the iPad for some content production (including music), in the end I spend much of my time with it navigating the web.
So if you did move to iOS 9 and are not using ad blockers, you´re missing out!
what concerns me most at this point is that we cannot make safety copies of apps any more with iOS 9.
Not being able to backup and go back to versions that worked is yet another gambling factor with iOS.
I'm on Air2 ios 9.1. I started with a fresh Air2 a while after its release. In that time, I have never had a totally stable platform.
I use lots of apps to make loops. Use lots of effects. Use many many sound sources.
I have an idea. Try to arrange my apps in AudioBus, Audioshare, Auria or Cubasis to try the idea. Next spend time trying to get the apps to work together. Next rethink idea because app A will not work with app B in daw C.
Yes I have fun and don't let it get to me, but if I was using my iPad for professional purposes, I probably would have no hair by now.
I have a very simple workflow, so I wasn't too worried about iOS 9 breaking it. Otherwise I most certainly wouldn't have updated.
Thanks @Fruitbat1919 and @Samu I found what my problem was. I could get sound when I played in the app itself but not from my korg microkey. It turns out that the apps were set to receive on midi channel 2! All OK now apart from an issue where sometimes when using an app via Audiobus into Cubasis, Cubasis crashes saying it can't open the original project and creates an new one with the app in an audio slot (although if I look for and open the original project the app in audiobus is there in a new Audio channel and works OK!)
i bought a second IPad Air 2 as a test device but I'm still on 8 on both of them. I have a few gigs coming up so I feel a bit exposed just going for it and losing my backup in case no 1 goes tits up. I'm not sure I like the impermanence of software very much. There's just too many things to watch out for: app updates, system updates, background activity etc. The good thing is that whenever there is something not right with my live audiobus preset, holding off and home buttons until IPad goes off always sorted everything out.
