The missing KORG Gadget update ... what do you think?
In 3 months it will be 2 years since KORG Gadget was released.
At release, and still listed on this page: http://www.korg.com/us/products/software/korg_gadget_for_ipad/
KORG wrote: "... There's a roadmap for future updates that will add new gadgets and support audio tracks, further perfecting the system as a mobile music production studio."
We've seen the promised new gadgets, but so far KORG still hasn't delivered on the promised audio tracks.
Am I the only one feeling cheated?
I love Gadget, it's a great creative tool, but I purchased it partly on the promise of audio tracks, so I could use as a stand alone production DAW and now almost 2 years later, KORG has still not lived up to their original promise.

Clicked the second one.
I think it's a little bit naughty to have quietly forgotten all about it. I suspect now that it may never happen.
I don't really like the poll questions to be honest. Seems unnecessarily inflammatory.
Also agreed, I think feeling "cheated" is hyperbolic in this situation.
No smokem the peace pipe option.
I never expected it to be a tool for working with audio clips, so I'm not too disappointed, saying that an update (for all sorts of ''missing' stuff ) would be most welcome !
Ahh, I should have added "Smokem the peace pipe" ;-)
Basically it's either 1 or 2 (option 3 and 4 are for laughs ;-) so don't take it too seriously)
I think it's fair to say that you either trust them to do the right thing, or you think it's bad form and they should at least inform us as supporters of their software.
I think gadget works great. If it gets audio tracks at some point then it does. I don't feel cheated though, I have tons more to explore and it's a load of fun.
One of the things that has helped me to be happier (although I probably have a ways to go...) is to focus on what things/ people / situations do or are rather than what they don't or aren't.
I'm more interested in MIDI improvements.
That's both in and out.
I really like Gadget, but MIDI support can hardly be described as basic ...
MIDI Support and Audio Tracks would just take Gadget to a next level
To be honest I never expected any updates at all - my other Korg apps get the odd bug fix, if that.
The fifth option could be something to the effect of 'They probably changed their mind, because it would screw the soundcloud community thing by destroying the level playing field. Not to mention the copious amounts of copyrighted material that would flood it and no doubt introduce tons of problems for them. I imagine the gadget cloud thing is a huge marketing tool for them with the Twits and FBs etc and they dont want to mess it up. Their metrics probably indicate that most sales come from fairly casual users and not mid levelers who would love audio tracks.'
Ok, that probably would have been a little long for a fifth option...
That's a really good point there @AudioGus
@AudioGus
idk how much the copyright material thing matters for audio tracks since i load copywrited material into abu dhabi / bilbao all the time.
also if they aren't going to do audio tracks then they shouldn't have put them on the roadmap.
I have a slight problem about companies saying quite clearly something is coming and then seemingly forgetting all about it.
It's not the crime of century and I love Korg (my favourite iOS music company probably) - but it would be nice to know if this is coming or not (I'd respect it if they just said - sorry, this is now not happening).
I think it all depends on how much profit Korg can make. It's what would motivate them to spend money in development. I'd think they would have to charge extra for the new feature or make a new version of Gadget with audio recording. Propellerhead did something similar when they added audio to Reason.
Count me in the disappointed group - the promise of audio tracks in the future was what made me buy Gadget - and I've been more than happy with it so far - but audio tracks would be a big time game changer for my workflow.
But I'd probably be almost as satisfied if they added midi out - or even better some kind of IAA (or Audio Unit?) gadget that allowed you to insert synths or effects from supported apps - kind of like how tonestack implemented this.
There was this recent thread about a hack to get audio tracks into Gadget:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/168772/#Comment_168772
And as @richardyot pointed out in that thread, this seems to imply Gadget already has the capacity to handle audio tracks, they are just holding back for reasons unknown. Could be copyright concerns, but I'd like to think it's more QC concerns. File this under optimistic conspiracy theory #214:
Gadget mix downs sound great. How do you accommodate somebody's raucous Washboard track and still keep the mix down sounding just as good? Snippets - OK, says Korg, we'll risk that. Hence the short time limits and other constraints built into Abu and Bilbao. But a blaring trumpet solo across three minutes?
If they can sort out how to handle making live input sound so nice, frequency-wise, comparable to the way Apple has with Garageband, then I think they'll enable it. Why not? The capability seems to already be there, and It could be the birth of an iOS SuperDAW. They may (or may not) have a team, or an intern, working on nothing but solving this issue.
Until then, they're not going to go places that could kill their little money-maker or damage their rep.
Of course we can never be sure, but Gadget feels like a complete product by now, doing some stuff very well and avoiding other stuff in order to keep its focus, like it or not.
Based on the other Korg apps, I really don't expect Korg to add much to Gadget except for a periodic new and shining Gadget to milk some more money out of it.
I'm not disappointed with Korg. Having bought almost all IAPs including Module, I have to say it was expensive to find out I couldn't find a pleasurable workflow with it, and ended up deleting everything. I don't think audio tracks would change that.
Aside from new Gadgets, the only thing I could see being added at some point, that doesnt overly complexify or intimidate newbs, would be a slightly more robust mixer with eq and effects.
Same.
Even if it did have it, it probably would’t at all match what you’re imagining that it should be like, and there’d be endless complaints about it lacking this or that, or having limitations or restrictions, or whatever. Personally, I’d prefer it if gadget could effectively and flexibly slave to another thing that specialises in audio trackery.
I find it works great with Cubasis. Right now I am having fun with Audiobus running Gadget -> Effectrix -> Cubasis. The sync is quite good and having effects on these gadget sounds is great. Can't wait to try it in Auria Pro when it is out.
Would love to see Gadget stay as it is, with just fixes as needed. From 8 through 9, Gadget has been very good at what it does. I would like to see Korg do Gadget AUs for inclusion of the DAWs that include such a function in the future.
Maybe they changed their mind at some point and decided to do the sampler gadgets in lieu of audio tracks? If so, I'd consider it bad form. Not the end of the world though since there are workarounds but I hope it still happens.
I'm pretty sure the sampler are what they called audio tracks, I still love gadget(fast and focused workflow) and hope for more synths, longer samples support and a way of renaming and organizing them ... For the full audio/midi experience I'm putting all my hopes in "auria pro"
.....longer samples support and a way of renaming and organizing them ...

Right here.
I haven't regretted for one second getting gadget. I think the 'audio track' will come but not in the way everybody's expecting it as the linear/cubasis style audio just doesn't suit gadget's workflow. It would be like trying to squeeze an elephant into a giraffe.
The only mistake I can think of Korg making is to word it in that way. I think that the PR guy got confused after reading too many audio tracks requests.
If I want audio on my gadget tracks I simply sync I.e. Loopy to it, record the vocals and import them into Abu or Bilbao. Sorted! It actually works much better because the result of using sliced audio with effects can be so much more dynamic than a linear audio track.
Having said that, each to their own so if you're planning to petition Korg to bring audio tracks good luck to you! if only cheekiness could be incorporated into text.
This thread is very Caustic.....................................
I'm afraid you're wrong @Peter321 - Gadget has been updated several times
I've been doing music on iOS for about a year and a half and there have been several Gadget updates in that time, at least 2 or 3
The most significant changes being the move from portrait to landscape, and the addition of various extract Gadgets. Didn't they do an iOS 9 update recently too?
Audio channels in Gadget would be great, but I'll tell you something: do an instrumental track in Gadget and then import the audio into Cubasis and it's super easy to make it sound really great - no need to use Gadget's crappy reverb and limiter and you can EQ everything. Then do your audio recording / manipulation in Cubasis
Maybe the iPad Pro will trigger a host of updates, to not only Gadget but also Garageband, Auria, Cubasis, etc. All sporting split screen, AUs, and anything else I can't think of that will look extra spiffy on the Pro.
