So - yes... It works just as Kaikoo promised it would .
With Gadget (not currently split screen compatible) it disables it and greys it out... so you can't tweek knobs while you play via the Musix keyboard.
BUT
What I found when opening mail (split screen compatible) half screen and Musix half screen is that both apps remain 'live' and you can control both at the same time using your two hands.
So that's very cool for using a midi surface app on one side and and tweaking the synths knobs on the other side (as long as both are SS compatible). Or indeed playing a synth on one side and messing with an effects app on the other side.
Apologies if people know this already - but i'm quite excited by this.
This plus the new AU thing hopefully = much improved workflow and more seamless merging of apps...
Yep as I showed in my pictures prior with Different Drummer and Muckraker running simultaneously.
More exciting than many on here want people to believe. This could really improve live use too.
At work with my iPad 4 on iOS 8.4, so I;ll give this a spin when I get home. Sounds very cool.
Hmmm...
I found Musix Pro did a good experimetal job for Gadget recording, you can change the Gadget sound quite easily by switch different presets and tuning Gadget Knobs at a more smooth way. The only drawback of Musix Pro is that it does not has an arpeggiator built with it. You can only keying notes for Gadget recording.
No! You can only has split screen view with Air 2 (A8 chip or above ) and ios9 to do the job.
Maybe I should have used different terms at the start. Seems it's called Split View only for the two compatible working apps and Slide Over for when it greys out the main app.

Wicked.
In that case I really want Genome to get spit screen and then have them both running.
You could do a whole live set that way. Without having to mess around switching other apps to the forground.
You could have patterning and/or elastic drums controlled by AB Remote (both allow pattern changes and ED gives its jam mode)
You could have Genome driving different patterns into Animoog, and say, some bass in another synth.
You could then have AB Remote also control the 'orbit' and program changes (for different parts of the track) in Animoog.
It would be nice to be able to control Turnardo in some way (maybe ABremote lets you)?
Then route them all into MT Daw.
Nice!
@Sebastian - I'd love it if you considered a couple of midi knobs and an XP pad in AB Romote. (Then you'd be able to modulate you bass sythn in the background, or Turnardo or the filter in Animoog, or control iDensity, or fire off some samples etc etc etc.) Just a few little midi controls in AB would do it! (Pretty please ).
So if Auria Pro supports split view, that would be great for synth and effect apps.
That's what I suspected. Thanks for the confirmation @Kaikoo.
This shows the models that do split view and which do slide over view.
At least I have slide over.
Thanks for the list @Fruitbat1919
So to do 'slide over' does one of the apps HAVE to be enabled for Split Screen?
Yes, the app you want to slide over the main app, must be enabled for split screen. They appear in a list opened from the right of the screen. I will post a pic.
Pic showing slide over selection screen.
Very cool. Thanks.
So ideally we need a list of music apps with Split Screen
(And a list of music apps with AU)
I think i'll start some threads...
@Fruitbat1919 - Monoleap!!!!
Thanks for the tip on this...
It looks fab... I love this type of thing.
This up next to Gadget - hooked into a few cc's should be great for expressive playing. I've just downloaded it.
Thanks again.
@Fruitbat1919 - so how do you find playing Monoleap?
And how is it in split screen?
For myself, it's not a great deal of use yet, as I would like to use it with synths in split screen for more control. When I get Musix Pro, I'm thinking of using Monoleap to alter cc's while I play notes on Musix in split.
Not tried it much in slide over mode yet, but thinking some sequenced bass might be interesting to try.
Looking at it more closely my problem is:
can't seem to restrict to a scale/key
not sure if you can use it to send MIDI ccs without it also sending notes
since it's designed for 2 handed play, not sure how you'd do it on split screen.
It was free though. So I might give it a try.
Yep think your right about having to send notes at the same time, shame.
Funny how excited we get at something that is an obvious thing that we are all used to on desktop. Everyone who works much on a desktop soon goes to two monitors now, just so they can see more open apps that they are working in, and copy and paste back forth. This is a great thing. As someone said, old apps may never get this update, because if they are not 64bit, Apple won't take an update for them, and that requires a rewrite.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000
Had problems trying to use Monoleap with Gadget in slide over mode. Gadget did not seem to like it and I had to restart my iPad.
Right now I understand that the 70/30 (the main 70% view grey out) view of Musix Pro and Audiobus Remote is for "Slide Over", They are not supported for "Split Screen" which represent 50/50 view from viewer screen, there is no grey out. To make it more clear and not confuse between the mechanism.
It gets more complicated, as Different Drummer and Muckraker can be used in split screen 50/50, split screen 70/30 and slide over.
Split screen mechanism supports both 50/50 and 70/30 view. And can do things simultaneously without greying out the main view. I was confused untill I have tried both Air1 and Air2.
I think it's quite a useful setup. Hopefully more support will be added over the coming months.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000
See!
If both apps support "split screen", You get a 50/50 split!
If only one app supports split screen, you get a slide over 70/30 with one main app grey out.
So, to edit my point of view, both Audiobus Remote and Musix Pro can do split screen on Air2.
Thanks to point out!
Some apps also do a 70/30 split as well as the slide over.
Doesn't 70/30 automatically means slide over? I do think 70/30 view is the "slide over", by which Air1 can do the work.
