MidiSequencer iphone version submitted to Apple

MidiSequencer is now universal working on Iphone4,5,6,6+ devices as well as Ipad range.
As it's Universal, it's free to those of you already owning the ipad version - including IAPs.
Few other features also in this release - like the midi fx Rotator which cyles though the middle note of a 2 or 3 note-chord (you define the pitch/velocity of each).
If accepted, should be with you folks in a week or so..

  • Yay! Thank you. I'm looking forward to that one. Always nice goodies...

  • yes, great news. Thank you.

  • Cool! Thanks Tony!

  • Wow, I imagine reworking the interface wasn't trivial. Thanks for making it universal.

  • Quality fluxus.

  • Yes! Thank you Tony!

  • Gahhhhhhhh! I can't wait!

@audiojunkie - no need if you own it already on ipad - it will be free.

That's very generous. I guess it is strategic... an app being "universal" is a selling point.

But you should know that it's software worth paying for!

  • Thanks guys! I hadn't purchased it back when I switched to my iPhone exclusively, and I've been waiting for it to come out on iPhone, so I'll be getting it really soon! :-)

  • The good thing with 2 different apps instead of universal is you can use 2 instances then.

I was about to make a post about this. Sunrizer, Magellan, PPG Wavemapper, etc. So many to double by keeping the iphone version on your ipad.

  • I prefer universal, but am happy with either way, as long as the software is available. :-)

I like animoog's ipad/iphone instances, works well where you need multiple sound sources.
For midiSequencer there was no need, especially with the multi-track comming soon.
So, I went universal and modernised my one app to work on all devices.
I used scaling as it was just too much work to redesign it all, hence it's free and will be very easy to support future sizes.

I employed a zoom feature to utilise the extra width on the phones - so it zooms the bottom half of the main screen. This works well I feel. Here is a screenshot taken from a real iphone6+

note: it's too big for AB forum to display

  • @midiSequencer: I like Animoog's way of doing things too (except for having to buy the IAPs again--which I've done). Will the multi-track support the iPhone? The screenshot doesn't show up, by the way...

  • You didn't need to repurchase the IAPs for animoog - there is a simple way to import them. I run animoog iphone on my ipads too.

Multitrack will support the iphone - Multi-track needed retina(it does run non-retina too), so MS had a massive overhaul to support retina and iphone sizes.

The image doesn't show up as AB forum doesn't handle images over 1mb(this one is 4mb). This image, from an iphone 6+ is a screenshot so is 2208x1242 pixels - it's why the iphone6+ looks great!
Here it is saved as a jpg to fit in the 1mb limit.

  • That looks smacking.

  • notice the [ & ] buttons to set start & end sequence?

  • Missed those. Very nice. Can they be toggled while the sequencer is running?

  • guess it would be hard to change them to anything but the currently running steps were it real time. So if you had already limited it to steps 6-13, you couldn't change it to 3-15 in real time. Maybe while you have your finger pressed on one of those it always goes to the start (or end) of the entire sequence and when you release your finger it sets the start or end?

Cool!!! Thanks for all of the info!!

@syrupcore - it works in realtime - as do most things. So you can change the start or end (not both together though) whilst the sequence is playing. You can even load in a new sequence (or save one) whilst it is playing.
I haven't implimented cycle for these yet though (so delay changing until the cycle resets) so will do that for next version.

  • This is terrific news! I often wished I had midiSequencer with me, but my iPad is mostly a home device, and my phone is with me constantly. Thanks for making it universal!

Thanks. I'm a little confused about how this will work in real time but I guess it won't be long until I find out.

  • midiSequencer calculates which step to play just before it is due to play. If the step is outside the start/end range (which must always have start<=end) then the next step to play will be the start step (if going forwards) or the end step (if going backwards).
So altering the sequence start/end points will (possibly) affect the next step playing if it is now outside the range.
If this was cycle enabled (which it isn't yet - but I'm looking to make this so) it would ignore any changes in start/end until the cycle resets (much like you can delay the loading of a snapshot until the end of the current cycle).

  • Cheers, Tony. I'm still lost on how you'd go about setting a step outside of the current start/end range to be the new end step but don't waste any more time explaining it—I'm sure it'll make sense once I have it in my grubby little hands!

  • Yummie. It's available...

  • @midiSequencer This might be a 'smallish' request but the 'strum' in Chord editor in milliseconds is a bit tricky to get spot on, a more musical indication/representation (1/128, 1/96, 1/64 etc.) would be a very welcome addition :)

    Thanks for the update!
