just tested this out! so cool :). Looking forward to iMini and iProhet. I hope to see a lot more AU updates before 2015 so I have time geek it out over Christmas holidays lol

well, you know that iMini and iProphet is ported by retronyms (unlike iSem)?I'm pretty sure we will see exactly this happen:

    nothing

Ha ha, Phase84 on AU, not a bad idea to revive Retronym.

  • Tried a couple of instances of iSem in GarageBand and it worked so well I may dig out the old GB from its currently dusty folder and have a fiddle about....easypeasy after all...

wait, are you saying that GB on iOS is already supporting AU??

  • How many instances are possible? And i second that question: Garage Band can use AU now??

Just received the Arturia newsletter where they 'Proudly announce' iSem as the first AU app for iPad.....Not strictly true but if the push is from Arturia then iMini and iProphet may follow after all.

I'm not clever enough to know if GB supports AU, all I can tell you is that I opened two isems on two different tracks via the IAA and they worked/recorded beautifully. Air 1/latest.

Now of course I am going to go off and add two more and see what happens.... :)

EDIT: No, I'm obviously missing the point here. I can have 4 iSems on 4 tracks in GB, but so what, they're recording audio so, apart from the memory to do it, so what?

but is that just IAA? Does each track switch to iSEM and open the same instance of the app? Are they tracking simultaneously by MIDI control?

    So many questions!

I don't think this is AU. I tried and yes you can create multiple tracks with the same IAA instrument but they're not active at the same time as far as I can tell. Also GB forgets about the IAA connection and after reconnecting 3 tracks I get no sound at all from iSEM through GB. Would be very cool if it did AU, though.

All iSem tracks for MTS are on midi tracks, there is no AU slot for audio track.

I did a IAA iSem track with midi learn, it plays well with AU iSem track together.

  • Oh god! No I didn't know that. Why would they do that :(. Heartbreaking lol

  • Just updated to iOS 9 for this, and it's well worth it, love it.

I've even found to my surprise that ifunbox works (as well as it did on 8.3) But that might be because I haven't updated iTunes to the latest version yet. strange because I remember trying out 8.4 and it not working...

Only for iTunes file sharing folders though....and only tested on Windows 7

I would guess that iSEM getting AU had less to do with Arturia and more to do with Tempo Rubato. So I'm not holding my breath for the other synths to follow.

    100x this.

not full sandbox access though, just for use instead of iTunes for copying shared files, but that's ok as I was blocked from full access in 8.3 anyway.

  • MTS iSem AU

I found a way to automate!!!!!!

    • Use the mod matrix in iSem to hook any parameter to the mod wheel

    • then use the 'mod wheel' automation lane in MTS to draw in automation... It works!

    Note:

    • This is the only lane that works. None of the others do

    • You can have the MTS keyboard slider set to Modulation Wheel and then modulate iSem with this in practice mode

    • I'm guessing you can record movements on the MTS keyboard slider if set to Modulation Wheel is you want to play live and record your movements to midi. But not actually tried this.

So it's limited to just one automation curve. But I'm very, very pleased about this. And in iSem you can hook the mod wheel to multiple parameters.

  • This feels like a historic day in iOS music to me.

MTS feels a bit like Gadget now.

On an Air2 I've not had any crashes or break up of sounds. Although I've only tried one instance so far.

Also - for me 'copy to audio track' doesn't seem to work if you want to print iSEM AU to audio. It came through blank. I had to mute all other tracks and export to the clip board in order to get my track printed to audio. (Note, I had ZeroReverb AU on the track too - that might have made a difference).

@Carnbot @Kaikoo - you had any luck with copy to audio?

  • Did a quick test, yes it works, just had one instance of ISEM on a midi track and it copied to a new audio track ok.

  • Mmm. Thanks. Not working for me.

  • It's so, so cool though.

    Gotta really learn iSem now!

  • Anyone know of any additional iSem patches?

  • Is there an idiot's guide to AU somewhere that I missed? What is it and what does it do?

  • VSTs for iOS.

    In a nutshell.

    What questions do you have?

"Sounds like something I'd love to work on!"

^ Sounds like something you say when you're not in control of what you get to work on from day to day. :/ Glad he CC'd the boss man!

That doesn't mean much though. They were always quick with "yes,we can" phrases but when or if they deliver is a totally different story.
