    MTS iSem AU

I found a way to automate!!!!!!

    • Use the mod matrix in iSem to hook any parameter to the mod wheel

    • then use the 'mod wheel' automation lane in MTS to draw in automation... It works!

    Note:

    • This is the only lane that works. None of the others do

    • You can have the MTS keyboard slider set to Modulation Wheel and then modulate iSem with this in practice mode

    • I'm guessing you can record movements on the MTS keyboard slider if set to Modulation Wheel is you want to play live and record your movements to midi. But not actually tried this.

So it's limited to just one automation curve. But I'm very, very pleased about this. And in iSem you can hook the mod wheel to multiple parameters.

I did manual slider recording, works well on targeted modulation, the modulation chart on CONTR shows nicely. So, I think now that all the modulation needed should be on iSeM Modulation matrix page to make it working on whatever destinations. Thank you.

  • Lovely the over all efficient environment, I think every one of the iSem owners should be very happy.

Thanks to both MTS and iSem developers. You made it the first DAW Gadget I am dreaming of !!!!!

  • Where's the GarageBand update ? Maybe it didn't get approved haha. Seriously though - it's gotta be coming any day now...

  • I just bought Zero Reverb, Superb! It makes iSem shining. It is really more advanced than default one.

This made me laugh and then laugh some more, thanks.

  • Wow, long sustaining sounds on Zero Reverb is too awesome,

It brings iSem synth presets to ever lasting sound environment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi, @Globles87,

Check this out! Zero Reverb with AU iSem for pad sound, it features 42 seconds for church using! awesome!

  • This is pretty cool. Now if only DAWs would be forward thinking and implement midi controls more suited for touchscreen, rather than settling on the obligatory keyboard and/or drum pads with maybe a scale function thrown in.

Seriously developers, what part of touchscreen do you not understand? I mean yeah, planes have wheels, but only for landing. It was wings and propellers that ultimately got them off the ground.

So I made a short track to celebrate...all in MTS

    • 5 iSem instances all running live from midi

    • 1 Strings soundfont

    • A matrix drum pad with iElectribe samples on

Let me know what you think.

I think there are two 'clicks' just after the two bass parts come in. Not entirely sure what caused that.

    Could you explain this again?

Are you saying that MTS CONTR lanes other than 'modulation wheel' map to other parameters in iSEM? If so, which ones please? Which midi numbers (or where can I look this up)?

    Thanks...

    Great music, Brovo!

I have found something more than what you have known about. Both hand drawing off the recording mode and Keyboard Slider real time recording mode work well. So iSem just limited to the 8 parts modulation matrix and 8 programmer for a single tracks. However, different amount of modulations create complexity.

You now can assign not only the 'mod wheel', you can also assign 'note velocity' and 'pitch' to control destinations. I repeat again, I have found 2 more sources for whatever destinations listed on iSem matrix. so now, we have 3 sources to targeted destinations there.

Pretty decent man. Nice for this time of the morning here.

Love hearing tracks that make good use of the stereo field.

I also like to have thing editable to the very end, or as long as possible, (AU)

    Keep it up!

Hi all, one more found, the 'after touch'.

I have suggestion to MTS or iSem developers, when tweaking 'keyboard slider', many glitching sounds to the iSem modulations by using MTS keyboard. This must be addressed in future update!

Also, the iSem preset saving menu bar needs moving upward a bit. Can not see what is being type on screen keyboard.

  • I can't get Aftertouch automation to be read by iSem. Can you definitely?

I CAN get velocity, pitch bend and modulation but that's it.

Thank you @KING777 @JohnnyGoodyear @Kaikoo - I forgot to say, I imported 5 of the tracks as 16 bar midi loops from Gadget (that id been working on). This worked really well.

Sketch in Gadget until you have the right notes, chord and beat > then import into MTS as midi could be a good workflow

  • Matt, you are correct. There is no aftertouch modulation. Left us with 3 sources now.

  • After the september iPad event, I'm still hoping for a "Pro" upgrade to Garage Band, or some Logic for iOS.
I was really hoping they were going to showcase that along with their iPad pro.

Or at least dragging multiple regions to a sampler track to create a multi sampled instrument. Now it works with only one.

Well - since the pic appeared on twitter last week with iSem showing as an AU in GB.. It's gotta be coming. I expect an update any day now

  • Well... 24 hours later my view is that AU is the way we'll be making a lot of full music tracks on iOS in 12 months time.

Having now made 1 and bit tracks by launching multiple instances iSem inside MTS, it's not perfect (needs better automation) - but I really can't see much appetite for getting single instances of apps to midi or IAA between each other externally. It's such a PITA launching, recalling presets, hooking up, debugging etc...

The overall experience so far with iSem and MTS (on an Air2) is pretty dam great. Everything is saved and recalled between sessions, i've had virtually no crashes. It's managed fine with 5 instances, some effects and a pretty heavy soundfont. I didn't need to freeze tracks or anything. My full finished track (admittedly just using 6 instrument tracks) I managed to keep completely live as midi and I just recorded the master.

    This is on version 1.0.

Even though AuriaPro is getting MidiOut (which Cubasis and MTS have had for a while) I can't see this being used that much when creating a full track 'in the Box on an iPad'. I think (hope) that the way Auria and more synth apps will go is AU.... (although I know there is that memory issue that Sebastian talked bout - maybe that might be upped?).

To be honest, iSem is such a great and versatile synth to have as the only choice at the moment. I'm really loving it (not having used it much before). It covers your subtractive / analog needs pretty well. If Animoog, a waveshaper like Z3ta and maybe something crazy like iDensity or GrainScience got AU figured out as well as iSem it would be amazing. Oh, and a drum synth would be amazing of course. MTS having Soundfonts is a massive complimentary bonus too. And we have some effect app AUs already. It all feels to me like a huge leap forward. I for one am buying (or IAPing) any app that has AU at the moment.

I think the only serious alternative for full track production is going to be sticking with Gadget or of course going with the Twin Synth internal to AuriaPro. But without AU (for now) i'm now thinking about the pros and cons of Auria a bit more than I was.

Exciting times anyway... It's a way better experience than i'd have thought it would be. The interface in iSem is pretty much identical to the full synth (which was a big surprise).

  • It is very coincident that iSem interface being matched well to the MTS keyboard without much modification. Great!

I think it's interesting that there is so much expectation for AuriaPro... And yet we now have iSem x5(+) and effect apps actually running within MTS - but only a couple of people seem at all interested.

I like Auria (mainly for its effects)... But MTS/iSEM/SoundFonts/Matrix/ZeroReverb all in one app is pretty great right now.

Would love to try it, but it's a tad expensive at Christmas time god dang it....but next year...

You're right of course. If I were marketing iSem etc I would be working to help Mister MTS get the successful word/brand/uptake out....

From what i've seen the workflow absolutely don't click with me and it's a tad to expensive to try it on my own.

  • So @JohnnyGoodyear maybe that's your answer. Everyone saying it's too pricey to try.

They should probably do an MTS lite to get everyone hooked.

Anyway, since you buy almost every app going perhaps you should take one for the team (and for a sense of iOS music history).

  • @Crabman - fair enough on workflow. That's important. It's pretty similar to Auria in many ways though. Left to right (unlike Gadget).

Piano roll is pretty nice (NanoStudio like) although I wish it had a 'restrict to scale'.

Other than that it's pretty damn good / quick. I made a full track in about 4 hours. So getting the hang of it.

Can you do me a favor and make a screenshot of the Arrangement view? The tutorial videos on youtube are all filmed from a distant view :)

But i don't think i would start with a 3rd (4th if you count Gadget as well) DAW anyway.I'm in the Auria Pro beta and there is enough to keep me hooked (hello Twin2 and Sampler) until AU will be available in Auria (or Cubasis) as well.
