Some cool stuff here for sure. I'll definitely message the developer to see if they have any thoughts on making it AU. Unlikely I'd imagine. See why they haven't fixed spectral 4 either...
Oh man, I like this bouncer effect. Route that back into AUM and slap a bit of Panstation on it.... Golden
Nice! Glad to know I can still use it with Audiobus -> Aum in a pinch. It's a bit of a hassle, but I'm definately continue to use Cs on hardware instruments. Sounds so good on a polysynth!
OK so it works on my ipad air in Aum but I get the same issue with @AudioGus on my ipad pro.
You do have to use audiobus to use this in AUM, right? Or is there a way to do it without audiobus? As it isn’t IAA, it doesn’t appear in the app lists in AUM.
Oh man, I like this Cs Spectral app a lot. The spectral resynth is brilliant, either as full on chaos, or with the mix turned down a bit to just add a slight touch of magic to synth lines.
Seems pretty stable in AUM too so far. Even with all effects on, dsp is hovering 20-30% for me with a few other apps on the go too.
Strange, it appears as IAA for me. I tried to load it in Aum like 10 times, but neither Cs grain nor Spectral worked.
I did get it working once earlier today in AB2 though.
However, now when I try to pipe Aum into AB2 with CsSpectral as an effect, I get nothing. Perhaps It would be more reliable with AB3, but I can't test that.
edit: fwiw, I'm also using an iPad Pro, which others were having problems with too.
I forgot it was called ‘filter’ in AUM, weird one. But I just tried now to load in AUM and had some difficulty but eventually managed. I think I had to quit CS Spectral after a failed load, then relaunch it standalone, then press reload in AUM to get it working. I’ll see now what the stability is like. After seeing your earlier recommendation about chime tones in this i decided to give kronecker a go with it. Oh man, this is a thing of beauty, love the granular delay so much, this is a serious class act of an app. Does anything else have a granular delay like this? I can’t remember getting anything like this sound before in another app.
Actually, I know two apps that fit the bill perfectly!
apeDelay is a spectral delay
https://apps.apple.com/vn/app/apedelay/id963192812
and Dedalus is a granular delay
https://apps.apple.com/vn/app/dedalus-delay-audio-mangler/id953953694
I have dedalus, it sounds pretty different to this though. I guess I always crank the feedback a bit too hard in it haha, but it is also one of my favourite effects. Ape filter I never really got into. Must give it another visit. Thnx! I suppose there is no other app that does the spectral eq that is the infamous non-functioning effect in Cs spectral?
Ah sorry, I read wrong, you said ape delay, not ape filter
I should revisit both of those apps though, I think I wasn't so in need of either really at the time I downloaded them. Probably more my thing now
Were you able to get the EQ to do anything?
I don't know of any other spectral effects though. Amazing Noises / ApeSoft specialize in this field, so outside of their apps Boulinger Labs was the only alternative I knew about.
No, the eq doesn’t work for sure. I FBed the devs, but by the look of things from the other thread about the app, unlikely to get a response. Still, a killer fix app in my book for sure, so glad I took the risk and got it.
Oh dayum! The spectral EQ broke? Lol, shows how little I used this the last two years.
Man, crank this thing up again, it’s the dog’s bollocks.I’ll answer my own question about the spectral delay btw....I guess apefilter actually probably comes closest to that. Your comment earlier got me to pull this and apedelay out of the box Aleyas, definitely time to give both a bit- a lot- more love.
That EQ has been broken for a long, long time. I remember 5 years ago in my old home it still wasn't working.
I really did forget how special this app is though. In the back of my mind I thought 'it's an old app, the fx quality surely doesn't stack up to all the modern AUs." Man was I wrong! Workflow limitations will probably prevent me from using it in closed iOS environments, but I'll surely hook it up as a single effect with hardware instruments!
When it came out I just filled up on sample fodder within a few weeks and called it ‘paid off’ heh. I still pull from that folder a lot.
It's honestly pretty incredible, and very solid. In terms of multi effects apps, I can't think of anything that comes close, I would choose this over the likes of Turnado or Effectrix etc any day (of course these opinions are always very related to personal taste, just like music itself). Just remembered that elastic fx has a granular delay. That's another pretty damn good multi fx.
So, I didn’t know of the name change and tried (and succeeded in) loading in AUM as well. I wasn’t able to get it to function with live input in the FX slot, though. The audio went through it, but seemed to bypass the effect entirely (no input or output showed in the csSpectral window and sound went continuously from input to output in AUM). I can use the csS file playback in that slot with control over speed and jitter, but everything else is non functional again.
iPad Pro 2018 here
It also looks like on this iPad the standalone runs at 44.1 kHz instead of 48, so is glitchy until an audio interface/host is involved. Also, stand-alone works fine (except the eq as mentioned by others) and The AB3 input method is successful too.
Hopefully this will still inspire others to get into it, even though it has its idiosyncrasies . Because wow, what beautiful grains
That's weird, maybe post a video and someone can help see what might be going on.
I decided to get Cs grains too, also very cool, if I could only choose one, at least so far, it would definitely be spectral Cs but I will get good use out of both, even without AU functionality.
Interestingly, I can’t get csSpectral to work with the AB3 workaround today. I set it up yesterday with csS in the effect slot and routed a synth hosted in AUM to AB3, then audio back to AUM, successfully and today I am showing the audio pass-thru I mentioned above with the same setup as my previously successful experiment...
Maybe I will just use it standalone lol.
Further troubleshooting has provided me with the difference in my setup: headphones. Everything works fine so long as I have an interface connected.
Anyone else have the problem that, if you play in live mode, then open a preset in cs spectral, then try to go back to live mode, there is no audio input, and the only way to solve it is to come out and reload the app?
@Gavinski I am not having this happen on mine, though I did note the live input was initially muted when switching back to live in after the preset loaded
Ah, there is an unmute button you then have to press, sorted...
Has anyone figured out, with vs grain (not spectral) what way the pitch y-axis on the 'sync grain' xy pad is set up? It doesn't go from low to high pitch as one would expect. The lowest pitches are in the middle of the range, but either side of that, although the pitch increases, it does not seem to do so exactly symmetrically. The manual says it 'generates a number of parallel grain streams corresponding with the setting of the overlap parameter', but I still don't quite get it.
Oh, another Q about CS Spectral. Could anyone explain how the file import works. Is it not possible to actually access the files saved in audio share? You have to do this convoluted thing of copying the file with audio paste?
good to see this being talked about
