I just grabbed this one for free and went through the presets - never used any version of this app before but I do like what I've seen and heard so far.
The patch system is confusing right now. I hope they fix this so its clear what patch is from what pack.
Yes it really is one great sounding > @Brain said:
It does have sounds that just sound so much better than many other apps IMO. Some packs seem high priced but I have several and they all bring a lot to the game.
thanks, I'll check that
@lbiyikoglu What about the patch bank issue that was mentioned above by several of us?
Edited to make it easier to find the mentioned issue:
"I think I've found a bug in the newest update. I bought a couple of the bank bundles, and the banks have moved to the top, and they work, but I still get the prompt to "Buy Now!" for $3.99 each. I would feel MUCH more comfortable if they said "Purchased" since they are part of the bundle purchase.... Does that make sense to anyone? Does anyone else see this? Hopefully the developer is on there and can confirm. I'll be happy to give more information......"
you should see "delete" instead of "buy now" for the loaded banks, I'll try to reproduce this and fix it as well.
The bundle says "purchased" as it should and there is no problem playing with the sounds but individual banks still prompt you to buy them.
Delete ? come on ...
Cool! Thanks so much @lbiyikoglu !! This player app is one of my favorites on my iPhone!!! Excellent app, with Excellent capabilities and tons of hundreds of patches!!
I get about 35-40% on my iPad4 (iOS9.2, no other apps running), for most of the (free) presets. You need some secons playing to get the "peak".
Only some exceptions use under 20%.
@lbiyikoglu Is there a way to select favorite patches, or do we just need to copy them to a new "Favorites" bank? Is creating banks in a patch player even possible? Just curious... I'd love a way to select my favorites and keep them grouped together!
Favorites would be sweet. I've got so many banks, hard to keep track of the ones I like. Kinda like, well I like the Magellan way. Just Star it, and behold......it appears in my favorites.
Star it and behold. Agreed. There are so many presets in the upgrade that it's hard to keep track.
Just behold. A most excellent word.
Synthmaster Player works flawlessly on my iPad Mini 2 running iOS 8.4 but fails to play without glitching on more CPU intensive patches on an iPad Air 2 on iOS 9.2 which reportedly is using about 10% more CPU for the same patch. A work around is setting the frame latency in Audiobus to 1024 which also makes it playable on an iPad 2.
Yeah, but that really isn't a workaround, since low latency is so important to good playing. Hopefully things will get fixed soon!
@Audiojunkie the increased latency is definitely a drawback for live playing. If you're sequencing or playing back via MIDI, it can resolve quite a few issues.
The app seems to work well on my iPhone 6 and uses about 10-20% less CPU.
this will be my next homework
I think there's quite a few of us who'd like to encourage your homework on this aspect
And please don't forget the broken MIDI channel selection !
I notice that if I call up a patch and then save it it is in a "my patches" folder, I did that to keep the bass patches wanted to use on the gig together.
Despite all the issues I applaud them for making it work on older hardware and on the iPhone (even if its not all the patches)
It is weird, it was fine until I used a sequencer app, and now I lost channel 1. Just 1 is down. I went through each and double checked before I posted this.
However, the MIDI learn works. It still does not save state settings.
Lots of problems for me using the new version on iPad 4 (iOS 9.2): sending midi using IAA doesn't work at all in for me MultitrackStudio for iPad, and when i set it up for virtual midi the volume slider in the SM app drops to zero every time I hit play and then randomly throughout the song. The app is pretty much unuseable for me as it is now as there was a lot of audio glitching when recording a single midi track from MTS using AB in airplane mode with nothing else running or playing. Is anyone else having troubles with MTS (or other DAW's) and this app?
Also i just noticed also that synthmaster when receiving virtual midi isn't responding to midi cc data on channel 1 (modulation). Just checked it against iSEM which is working fine, synthmaster no-go. I love the sound of this synth and the presets in the expansion packs i bought, but this may be the first time i go to Apple looking for a refund. This app is too buggy in its current state.
Not having the same range of problems, but -for the first time- am getting crackling on some patches. Air 1/latest.
As a workaround i tried recording the audio into Audioshare via IAA (straight audio over IAA seems to work). It's still a bit glitchy but not as bad as with AB. Still have the volume problem. Looking at the midi file it responded to a volume change from 127 to 97 by instead dropping all the way to 0, so it seems to be misinterpeting the midi data somehow.
The main issue for me is dropped notes using the onscreen keyboard(s) on iPhone (6s) or iPad. Sometimes you can just hammer on a key and get nothing.
Is it possible to revert to an earlier version (IPA file) from iFunbox/iTunes ?
I tried restoring from an Nov '15 IPA backup (ver. 1.0.1.1 I think) and ran into a few problems. I bought a bundle and when i tried to restore purchases it only gave me one set out of the 4 that were purchased. Plus, midi via IAA still didn't work in MTS.
