Why would the mini 2 choke? I'm using a mini 2. No problems here. Mini 1 might be a different story though...

The decription states that it requires an iPad Mini 3. But thanks for letting me know it works on the Mini 2 with no problems.

Mni 3 uses the same chipset and processor as the Mini 2. There should be no difference in performance. You're good to go, if you want it.

Thanks for letting me know. It's really strange that there's no info for the Mini 3 on Apple's website. But I found the specs on Best Buy's site. I'm curiious what the differences are and why the Mini 3 is not listed. But anyway, I'm glad I can use the Mini 2 with the Casio CZ app. Now I just need to find out if anyone's having issues with it on iOS 9.

    9.99 U.S. $

    ouch !

you know it just occured to me that the pain expressed might be because like me, you already paid 'full price' and the special offends?
if so i unreservedly appologise ... in your direction. Sorry.

    >

No need to apologise. The ouch is because it has limited number of presets and from what I see and hear on youtube are not even the original presets ... I have a cz101 ... Owned since 1986 ... Not exactly my go to synth ... These days. anyone who has dabbled with a PD synth will know they aint the easiest to programme sounds on LOL !
so, you'll have your work cut out building on the 30 that the app is shipped with

it was my first poly synth and i loved it back in the day ... it has a fairly unique if somewhat thin and nasally sound and its rather limited by today's standards ... As is the app it would appear !? ... If it was a couple of £'s i'd snag it for the nostalgia ... But I'm passing at its current price.

Yes, it is lacking in presets, but it is easy to program. Maybe I should offer some presets. :p I wouldn't know how though. I've only made about 5 so far... Maybe someone with more experience ...

i still have a couple of "patch" books from my old CZ 101 wonder if they'd transcribe to the app LOL !!!

Where they missed the boat on this app is the lame assortment of presets. They could have included all presets from all CZ models and I think it would have been better received. IMHO

I could give a damn about presets, since I'm the type that is more likely to INIT a new synth than use the presets. If that's the biggest failing between this and the original, I'll snatch it right up.

  • Wasn't there another phase distortion synth posted last week during the black friday sales that was getting good reviews?

  • 'Patch books" - ah, the nostalgia!

  • Does anyone know how the midi on this is? Does it respond to program change messages?

  • Oooh nice. Casio always = insta-buy.

    jk :(

its probably phase84, the only other phase distortion synth that i know on ios anyway [and thor] - phase84 is based on the funky digits http://www.extentofthejam.com/

phase84 has no audiobus support though.

That one's not a synth, but an editor and librarian for the CZ synths. Only useful if you own one.

Phase 84. I love it. It's IAA - so you can make it AB by going via Audioshare if you need to.

I think it was a steal for the <£5 I paid for it. It sounds awesome and has this great rhythm gate thing too. If it's still on sale (or even if not) and you want some digital sounding sounds - I'd grab it.

    It's a good thing I didn't buy it. lol
I really need a pair of reading glasses.

  • Yeah thats it, Phase84, looks pretty good. Still somewhat on sale, a buck more than black friday but half of its max price.

  • I dug out Bassline since it is one of the few link enabled apps but God, the UI feels like operating a tape machine. Got it all working ok instinctively but imputing notes step by step isn't my idea of fun, especially now that Gadget is linked up.

Agree. Weirdly (considering it's IAA) this is one of the few reasons I sometimes open Tabletop...

  • Phase 84 is a good synth. It's a shame Retronyms won't make it AudioBus compatible, but I understand why because of their Tabletop thingy. So they have met us half way with making Phase 84 IAA compatible. It would of been nice if they released all the other Tabletop apps for IAA? In that way at least they will get a sale of some description. The Tabletop v.s Audiobus war( if there was one a few years ago) is over. AudioBus is the general IOS industry standard for audio synth fusion. Or maybe(idea)what they could of done, is make Tabletop Audiobus compatible, but if want to use Tabletop apps in AudioBus you have to purchase them within Tabletop, & not outside of it straight into Audiobus........ Just a mad idea......

How much is the app ? Only got access to iPhone at the moment and its iPad only apparently !!

    Dear Apple,

Fix this already. You know when a user also owns an iPad.

That does seem a really really odd omission. Maybe there were licensing issues.

This misses the mark by a long way, VirtualCZ on the desktop, puts its functionality and compatabilty with the original synths to shame. That's disappointing when this app was created by the CZ's manufacturer.
