  • I'm a bit more interested in what glitching is possible via midi out.

So I guess some of it might be (volume gating?) but I suspect some of it might not carry through to midi out (pitch variations I doubt)?

Just watched Dougs video. If the triplet and 16ths glitches etc come through as midi out that's great. I think I'm sold :).

Looks like its half price until Christmas too.

@Littlewoodg yup, sorry POCKET beats. I guess the reason i posted it is to show its super fast to crank out something with rolls and glitchy sounds.

  • So I purchased Praxis Beats and I like it. Thanks @Littlewoodg

The ability to create rolls of 32nds, 64ths, triplets etc very easily is its main selling point for me. (Although I might get tired of that trap thing at some point).

The 'live play' I guess is the ability to tap in different patterns as is loops round it's two bars?

It seems that you can never put in an off beat 16th note though - because of the resolution (8th grid of 2 bars)? Although that's not a huge deal.

It is indeed great triggering iElectribe. Had a lot of fun with that.

  • Thanks for the vids @syrupcore
    Praxis Beats.
I totally missed out on this one, and it looks stunning.
Given it's MIDI-sync-powered by the Spectacular Sync Engine it might easyly prove stability, as is the case with Funk Drummer.
    Instabuy !

  • what do you guys think in a comparison between Praxis and Diode, I don't have Praxis but I have pocket beats, but I'm kind of feeling Diode more than a tad bit more?

    That's a good question.

  • man it's been a minute since I messed around with Diode cause I've been lost in the joys of Patterning but damn Diode is siccccccck

Praxis is more a kin to ATTACK

DIode more a kin to DM1

    2 different animals.

  • is praxis a drum synth?

No no - should have been more clear.
    Im sorry
I am talking the layout and user interface.

It is a sample based sequencer with amazing glitch and note modifications.

I think there is a really cheap version you can get if I remember.

I think it is a huge TOOL, not a composition item.

But, as a tool it def provides a unique ability among drum/sequencer type apps

  • i think you might be talking about pocket beats, I've got that one....... been comparing it with diode all night and so far diode is coming out on top but I wonder how much better than pocket beats Praxis is?
I know that Diode would be improved with stem export and an intelligent/selective randomizer.

Cool! - lots of tasty twists and turns in your track, and didn't sound hastily done either...

This kind of thing makes me nuts, reminds me of building Pokemon card decks with my boy when he was little, no set of 40 cards ever quite covered the eventualities in the little tourneys, worked just like rock/paper/scissors. So like Konami says "gotta get em all!".

  • hahaha I do concur.

  • Thanks for thinking of Praxis Beats in this thread. (I’m one of the developers.) Just a heads up that we’re actually going to be releasing another update really soon that includes the ability to work on multiple patterns as well as a pattern sequencer. Hoping to get it ready in time for Xmas. We're always looking for feedback and we love hearing tracks people are making with the app. Feel free to reach out at contact at dreamengine.com :-D

  • @amber any upgrades or improvements in store for Pocket Beats (or a iphone version of Praxis)?

  • @amber! Pattern sequencing sounds like the ticket. And yes please to already mentioned requests: ADSR (or just D) and LPF per track.

Yamaha MMS is kind of holy wow. Watching the whole playlist reveals a lot

What I can't figure out is how to assign a track to a particular MIDI Port and/or channel. Can a club member enlightenment me please?

  • edited December 2015

    @syrupcore
Can't tell for certain, as I've no exp. with ymms. After some trying, I would say its a little messy, 'cause you could either send midi out, or arm the track as iaa ('part/voice select/inst app') , then doubletapping the trackname and then 'edit' lets you select the channel at least, but I'm not sure how to activate, (solo?)

  • I think the tracks are hard coded channel 1-8, top to bottom @syrupcore. Not sure about ports though.

  • I think you can only change the MIDI channel if you are using IAA. It gives you a transmit channel between 1 and 16 if you edit the part by clicking on the instrument box. The instrument box will have the channel displayed on it like: 'CH 1' on it, for instance.

  • Thank all. I'll have a go.

Interested to hear how you get on. I am still in some shock as to the felicity available via these Yamaha odd bods....
