midiSequencer v1.13 now available
After having to convince Apple Reviewers that a midi only app doesn't produce any sound, v1.13 is now ready!
If anyone has v1.12 not working on IOS7 please let me know if this now works for you!
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/midisequencer/id787934896?mt=8
Major Changes:
. Fixed IOS 7 crash on startup - sorry for delay!
. Added iPhone zoom top/full/bottom now use full width (3 buttons now replacing + before)
. Updated to latest AB library 2.3.1 (28th Nov 15)
. Fixed IAP MidiFx was showing chords instead of MidiFX on main menu - this worked if going through skip button panel
. Fixed midiLearn not saving mappings
. Added Chord strum tempo sync - chords will arpeggiate up or down using tempo divisions (so 1/1=1 note per step interval)
. Extensive rewrite of midi input to sequencer &/or output
. Removed Options Output latency - use per device output latency instead to delay midi
Minor Changes:
. Fixed Limits - lower was fixing at F#8
. Fixed Tempo slider showing when Slave mode and exit panels that cover up LHS
. Optimised floating messages for all devices
. SkipButton - Rotator fx was showing as Ostinato
. Fixed midi Thru playing two note on's if fx
. Fix fx Rotator playing loud - was not capping vel to 127 and giving strange results
. Rotator Fx now saves/loads settings even if transpose or harmony off
. Rotator Fx button in FxPanel was getting lost when swapping fx in slots
. Limiter - MidiIn & randomise note or channel in range - disabled now for midiIn - otherwise can't matchup On & Off midi messages
. Filter Fx now clearly labeled as rejecting notes/velocity/channels
. Moving note slider was showing non-scale notes in label unless Options Scale after Transpose was set - should always show only scale notes

Sir, I have tested updated midi sequencer with Auria Pro. I don't know how it can be driven (slaved) by AP. The start and stop command send from AP to MS seems not worked for me. Auria can record the notes but can not command the start and stop of MS playhead? Can you teach me how to do that, thank you in advance!
Device: Air2 iOS9.2
Are you serious?? ROFL!
@kaikoo - I don't have AP to try. MidiSequencer (as it's based on midiBus) only works using midi beat clock - not sysex. I think Auria does not support midi beat clock?
MIDI beat clock defines the following real time messages:
clock (decimal 248, hex 0xF8) - this is the ticks that move the steps
start (decimal 250, hex 0xFA) - so starts if MS is put into Slave mode.
continue (decimal 251, hex 0xFB) - etc
stop (decimal 252, hex 0xFC)
For slaving MS to another clock, ensure you have the following:
a) Options panel - set SLAVE instead of MASTER
b) Options panel - enable Midi Clock - this is a global on/off for all midi clocking
c) Devices panel select Input to show all possible sources of midi in
d) Devices panel - Activate your device in the input. If you activate MidiSequencer make sure the app sending midi is sending to MidiSequencer too
e) Devices panel - Make sure your input device is also enabled for Clock. This is local control (options is global).
You can enable midi thru depending on if you need to record or pass-through midi. If you just want to play the sequence, then no need for midi thru.
hope that helps?
@ainckt - I kid not - I even told them first time, they then restested and said it has a bug it produces no sound. So I told them again and asked them to read the manual.... that seemed to do it...
have you tried to activate Auria input as well? I mean inside midisequencer use both inputs simultaneous.
It is somehow reassuring that Apple also need to be RTFM-shamed.
Ok, it works! Thank you so much! Because my mistake to think switch the light on for slave, it actually is for Master. No issue right now, perfect! Just a beginning latency issue. I will do more to optimize.
Only need to turn Midi Sequencer on. Thank you to reminding me.
Progress! So, Captain, what are you running IN to MS and then to Auria? I have been persuaded by exporting some Auxy MIDI files into AP that this is a useful way (I am not a midi user much; until now )...
Ok, @JohnnyGoodYear, For Auria internal sound bank, I use Fugue Machine for complex melody, but I have not figure out how to control external synth's (3rd party) velocity by using Fugue Machine. So this is the case that Midi Sequencer takes advantages to shine! For this reason, MS has gate length 400% from normal, it also has midi cc control for the synth apps and a latch mode for steps. I think Alba Ecstacy's YouTube video has pretty awesome demo on this ground. MS is just warping forward the notes which brings more complex mood for rhythm. POLY does differently. So for me, each of midi sequencer has its own strength and weakness. It all depends on situation. MS is really straight if one takes time to practice. However, I have no time to figure out B-Steps. I highly recommend MS, since it has pretty much clean out many complex bugs becoming very ceompetitive!
Johnny, for the chord, MS is also very simple to switch on each steps!
@kaikoo - good to hear it's working. midi sync is a black art at the moment. Hoping Ableton link might help things along here, or even something from michael tyson....
As I use midiBus - I have to wait for Nic Grant to put in MTS (midi timing), but it's been a long wait....
Thank you, Sir. Good to hear that! Comfortable to work with Midi Sequencer. Auria also brings attention, MS is shining on!
I appreciate your guidance and enthusiasm, as ever, Captain.
@Kaikoo - so you are playing chords in MS by playing single notes from Auria.
Let me know if you like the new tempo-sync strum!
@JohnnyGoodyear ,
Here is the gate length recoded from iM1 to Auria by MidiSequencer, It is awesome MS can do that. I use hand to adjust gate when record button on.
No worry, Sir. Now we can only load saved bank by hand. I am expecting MS new clipping pattern window coming to store. I wish seeing it on cue in the chain and waiting being recorded into Auria automatically. Thanks for the update.
@kaikoo -you can automate load bank by midi Program change - select the snapshot id to load. So $C0+$10 would load snapshot 16 (as$10=16). Obviously $C0=midi channel 1....$CF=midi channel 15.
If you have Cycle enabled it will delay the load until the cycle resets (it uses the last PChg received).
I think this all works....
The clips too will be automated so you could trigger off (via midi in) any of the clips - although the clips themselves have clip follow logic (which may kick off other clips too). All this to come, and every clip = a complete midiSequencer setup (including devices).
One user is reporting an issue with IOS7 and an ipad mini 2. Other users with the same setup seem ok - anyone have issues with IOS7 now?
no problems with a normal sized iPad2 running iOS7.
@midiSequencer
Tony,
Now that MS is universal could you please add iCloud backup so it automatically backs up snapshots/songs etc.and does so between devices?
This works so well between versions of ChordPolyPad on my iPad and iPhone where I can start an idea on one device and develop it further on the other device and it all happens in the background.
Now that I think about it how do you perform a backup of MS songs and snapshots?
Not entirely sure why but telling an apple reviewer to RTFM makes me really happy. Way to go!
Haha, great!
On @MidiSequencer Facebook page it looks like Link is coming soon and the rack is getting closer too (using 3 sequencers at the same time)
Cheers, I've been wondering what Tony has been up to.
Lots of interesting updates on his facebook page actually. https://www.facebook.com/Midisequencer-558588387561014/ a new CC mode and investigating vector graphics.
I seldom use FB, but I had to give him a Like.
"Will be sharing some screenshots & demos soon. Ping me if you want to beta test?
The LFO & Ableton Link work is done, just needs some final testing(on all devices) and UI tweaks - so will be submitted to Apple next week."
As far back as 2014, Tony was talking about making a piano roll version of his MIDI sequencer, and even had some screen shots. Since then, we've gotten ModStep, Auria Pro, and a number of other updates and apps, but I always did wonder what happened to that project.
Midisequencer is kind of a niche approach to sequencing in modern times, but it's a really well-done app and he put of lot of detail into it. I think it could be fun to hook it up to a Volca or some other piece of hardware and just see what unique patterns you could come up with using slider drawing.
It also does the 'skip steps' and probability/next-step stuff really really well. Still love mS!
