I have no idea what I was doing, but check this out. I set up Fugue Machine and Gadget in Audiobus to n-Track studio (which accepts midi clock in). Also set Link to Midi up with n-Track virtual midi for the midi site and Gadget and Fugue as the Link sites. Pushed the Audiobus play button and after several tries, got audio tracks to record in time on n-Track. It also matched n-Tracks metronome beat exactly too. Pretty sure I couldn't do that before Link, or Link to Midi.

LAWYER! You very obviously know exactly what you are doing and I suggest Sir you are a boffin and I claim my five pounds.

I claim my 30 % share of your Five Pounds for typing services, Johnny!

  • Hey everybody!

First off, thanks so much for the kind words and for sharing your experience with LINK to MIDI. Putting the MIDI part aside for a moment, Link is amazing! It really is an incredible sync technology, and I'm super excited to have implemented it in Fugue Machine, and to potentially provide a stable bridge to external devices :]

Now for the relatively sad bit... I've decided to remove LINK to MIDI from the app store :[

    This is just temporary (hopefully).

Long story short, I noticed some problems while syncing some other apps (thanks to the feedback in this thread), and I'm honestly unsure what's going on. I've tested on all the hardware devices in my music studio with great success, but I admit I could have been a bit more thorough in testing with other apps — I usually take about 8 months to finish an app, this one I built in less than a week! Ahhhh!

So yeah, I don't know what's going on. More specifically, I'm not sure if it's LINK to MIDI or the destination apps at fault (Link does exist for a reason). So It could be something extremely simple on my end (fingers crossed), or something deeper... I don't know!

In any case, this uncertainty is why I've decided to remove the app. Basically, I want to have a 100% understanding of what's happening before proceeding. And! I don't want to waste anyone's time. So I need to do some research.

I'll address this issue asap, and hopefully it's something trivial on my end and we'll be back up soon.

In the meantime, please enjoy the beautiful synchronization awesomeness that is Link :]

Also, if I do wind up finding and fixing this mysterious issue quickly, it still may take a little while to get a new version in the app store (Apple's review team goes on vacation soon). So if you're interested in getting on the LINK to MIDI beta, please send me an email at [email protected].

    All the best,
    Alexander

  • L2M worked for me with fugue machine and drumjam

  • Most of the ones with link are ones which previously had WIST

Terrific transparency, which, I'm coming to the conclusion, is one of the prime qualities between developers and their users....I know, PR 101, but still sometimes in short supply...

Did anyone succeed in using L2M with external hardware? I tried Beatstep pro and didn't get it to work at all.... :'(

I haven't had any luck trying to get it working with Cubase 8; haven't tried yet with hardware sequencers. I will let you know if I get anything to go.

*** just saw Alexandernaut's update; guess I won't worry about it for now.

*** apparently Cubase won't slave to Midi Clock, so not the app's fault.

I got Link to Midi to work with DM1 to ELASTIC Drums, but not Fugue Machine.

There would be no advantage for this to even work with Fugue Machine since it already has LINK support.

Yes, as in FM Link to DM1 Midi.

  • Thanks, Mr. Naut, for even trying. If the app works well enough with external devices maybe you can put it back up, but with clear instructions that it's not for use with apps yet.

And happy hunting with getting on-device midi working. I won't be holding my breath, considering the current state of iOS midi implementation.

  • @Fruitbat1919 I'm not sure what MIDI chain you're wanting to setup with Fugue Machine. I thought you were wanting to control Fugue Machine with LINK to MIDI app.

Nope was wanting to sync Fugue machine with DM1 using Link to Midi app. Seems Link to Midi has been withdrawn by the Dev to tinker a bit more.

  • @Fruitbat1919 so you tried to have both Fugue Machine and Link to MIDI app sync'd via LINK and then have DM1 sync'd to Link MIDI app via MIDI but it didn't work?

I was able to get WaveGenerator being played via Fugue Machine and DM1 clocked by LINK to MIDI app and also had iKaossilator with LINK. The apps all played together and when I changed the BPM in any of the three LINK apps, all of the apps switched to that tempo. The Tempo in DM1 was off so there was a poor clock established between the MIDI to LINK app and DM1. With LINK none of the apps all started at once but did come in and out on time with the tempo and at the beginning of the next bar.

Given the clock problem between DM1 and LINK to MIDI, I can see why the developer pulled the app to investigate further to make sure he gets it all right.

  • @Paul

Yep that's it. I've had some success, but it seems unreliable at this time. Think it will be one of those apps that is reliant on an already unreliable midi clock with many apps.

  • @Fruitbat1919 it would seem that having LINK support would be ideal for syncing apps and that as it is now, relying on MIDI clock sync will be the weakest link in the sync audio chain; nevertheless, I hope Alexander follows through on LINK to MIDI app as there are still apps that can make good MIDI connections via MIDI clock, may not get LINK support anytime soon, not to mention the ability to sync up MIDI hardware connected to our iOS devices.

Yep agree, thinking hardware that will be most useful.

    @Alexandernaut ,

Dear great ... great Alexander forever, Happy New Year 2016

Thanks for bringing a wonderful app to us, I have one question?

Is it possible to have a 'chromatic' Scale setup option inside Fugue Machine?

Because I would like to have different drum kits to synch to FM, one of the problem I have is that the present scales can confuse me with, if I change drum apps, each has its own chromatic standard setting, if I do not have correct scale, the sounds from current setting will be map to a confusing state!

In addition, the upcoming 4 channels routing can provide 1 channel to the drum machine patterns, so it makes sense to add a dedicated chromatic scale to the setup, that will bring an advanced beauty to Fugue Machine.

    Wishing you great musical year,

    Kai
