Very nice. I like!!
Hehe, Master @supadom style!
Wow, give the bearded guy in the mirror ten bucks. Competent mastery etc. Looks cool. I think there are few folks here who will have some fun with that puppy.
I take the compliment gracefully @Kaikoo
This thing rocks! I hope for the inclusion of today's standards: AB, Ableton Link etc.
Also an iPad/landscape version would be nice.
Are you listening Mr Developer?
Mr. Developer is a good listener...
Nice!.... Looks & plays like an offspring of Propellerheads Figure.
Mmm, looks interesting . a lot going on and not sure I got how it all works but it looks simple and fun! What is not to like.
I have been following this since it was Amplify, then Noize, now Noiz. Been a few years now, the seem to rename it and never release, hoping this will actually come out one day. It's sort like Lemur with instruments. Create layouts as performances.
Makes me wish I liked that kind of music. Looks fun, but I never seem to be able to get where I want to go with these types of apps.
I agree somewhat. With an app like this I could see myself making a lot of 8 or 16 bar loops of drums and synths and then just playing for hours tweaking things and moving my fingers around on that cool interface... But still it looks like tons of fun
@aaronpc
Say you could shape the app more towards your music, what would you add?
Existential dread is always good.
That's always in my go bag, but the inapp Reso synth can get you there with a couple tweaks, too. Come to think of it, I find the e-dread in every app I touch, Figure included. But that's just me. (I'll pass your feature request on to the dev)
@Littlewoodg
Don't mind me. Just a little rant based on my own internal creative struggles. It seems the more fun and free this kind of app looks, the more it seems to steer me into a narrow channel of "danciness" for lack of a better term. Maybe it's all the 8 or 16 bars loops and the necessary quantization that entails, or the difficulty in changing key or tempo. Maybe they have all that sussed but you just can't tell from the video.
iOS apps have been invaluable to me in terms of sound design, but as for song building, not so much. As much as I'd like an app like this to revolutionize the way I write music, the most interesting things still happen for me when I just sit in front in front of a piano/zither/iron gate and noodle like I've always done. Ah well. Not easy getting midi working with an iron gate, either.
@JohnnyGoodyear
Existential dread is my lifeblood.
It's an interesting one. I represent a very small slice of the dev's market and I think (from the vid) this looks a very accomplished variation of what it's a variation of. Offers flexibility and built-in choice.
Personally, I do want dread, or the possibility of communicating it, and wistfulness, and longing, and regret. A faint sunrise of hope, but not too much. Exhaustion. Seeds. Experience. A chance of late quirkiness. Scattered winsome. Story of my life....
But, as long as there's flexibility I usually find what to my ear sounds like some of those things. Figure is difficult. But something like GeoShred, despite the cockrock can also be bent into shapes of tender.
You could use this to make any kind of music you want. I have the Novation circuit and have made a lot of non dance music :-)
@KlaatuNinja That's nice stuff, BUT I still half-expect a House/Dance drumbeat of some kind to come in at any moment...(oops, as it does at just gone a minute).
And, yes, I totally agree you can make anything into anything. I believe in that very strongly. BUT I also have a lot of apps and am looking for machines at this point that take me for the ride rather than me having to figure out how to crank them into a shape that works for me...or, more importantly, I want apps that help me get on directly with the work that's in front of me.
Nothing against this particular app, which actually seems very interesting and well thought out.
@JohnnyGoodyear
@aaronpc
Believe me I get it.
In fact, I was not able to get those things - wistfulness, scattered winsome, longing, regret...Experience! especially experience - out of Figure, and finally deleted it.
The reason I ask here, ask my comrades that is, about this one is that the team is listening...
And my sense of these guys is that if I present them with existential dread as a feature request they will lol, and they'll also know what I mean. They also get that there are users, (our friends that will dig the DJ only type thing) and then there are users.
An opportunity - big ups owed to this forum, hi AB team! - to wrassle good naturedly with developers, rather than bash heads against the app once it goes live.
@JohnnyGoodyear
Fair point, that could have been another synth line or esoteric effect though...
I know what your saying though, and I think it's why they've worked on it for so long. Trying to get the balance between flexibility and simplicity. I just get peeved when things are dismissed as dance music only, when you can make all sorts of electronic stuff with them.
And to @KlaatuNinja actually, probably. I hear you. And if there was a whiff of dismissal I take it back/apologize. Not meant at all.
My guess is that whatever the facility (or felicity) of the app the access to sorts of sounds is really what we may be talking about (or I am). Which is why, with something like Beathawk, I didn't see it (however in some ways accomplished) as anything more than a sound-pack-shifter until they opened up importing your own samples. After that I had no one else to blame but myself
And I like the Noiz tools (facility) as far as I've seen them, and the flexibility of their interaction/designation (felicity). So, for me, in the end it'll be the sounds...as for the Devs here, if they are talking to you or listening anyways, that's terrific. As I said earlier, tell them to give the guy doing their demo an extra ten bucks, he did a very good job
@JohnnyGoodyear
Didn't take it as a dismissal at all: trying to dig down past the usual feature requests that testers will have thought of (user sample import, stem export, AB, Link, landscape mode, Undo, MIDI, alt. time sig., piano roll/note matrix, resample, lasso object groups for copy/cut/paste, live sampling, follow actions! etc), to get to the good stuff...like existential dread, longing, regret, samsara/nirvana, dharmadatu...
Ah, the suchness in which emptiness and dependent origination are inseparable... I hear you now Sensei....
this feature list is very very good, how much of this is in this app?
it will be vital that this app allows you to play without a grid/quantization, is this possible?
also is it possible to tone down all of those colors in preffs or something?
@aaronpc's "iron gate" got me going on this tip, but he may have meant an actual iron gate, but there we are again: 1st, form is emptiness and emptiness is form, then emptiness is emptiness and an iron gate is an iron gate...
@kobamoto
I understand piano roll is currently on deck, but my sense of the team is they want it all...I plan on hammering a bit more on the following actions.
As currently is, you can turn "snap to quantization" off...tempted to take potshot at Cubasis here, which has no off for snap, but I won't. Wait, did I say that out loud?
That's funny. I loved the 'iron gate'. Meant more to me than someone wittering on about their sunburst finish something-or-other.
As for the Noiz, I have a tendency (first learned with fortune cookies etc) to replace the word Zen or meditation or koan with the current object of my interest. Thus (with apologies to our old friend Hakuin):
What is this true app? It is to make everything: coughing, swallowing, waving the arms, motion, stillness, words, actions, the evil and the good, prosperity and shame, gain and loss, right and wrong, into one single interface.
Works for me.
@JohnnyGoodyear yet again you strike my noggin with 10,000 blows,
thanks for sending me back through the Gateless Gate:
"How wonderful, how wonderful
The discourse of the non-sentient:
What marvels!
If you listen with your ears you can't discern it
When you hear it with your eye you'll have it at last"
Edit: oops, I killed it again, what's that smell: stink of zen
Also not taken as dismissal, I just wanted to point out on the thread that you are not limited by what the apps or musical devices are supposed to be for. A lot of other people will have seen the vids and assume it's all you can make:-)
