  • Piggy backing on the discussion, and not necessarily talking about this app (after all it's not even out yet)...

    Never understood why an app or even a desktop DAW would want to pigeonhole the user into a certain genre. Seems to kind of defeat the purpose, no? The purpose of creativity? I mean, there's a reason paint by numbers paintings aren't in the Louvre. Yet Logic "Pro" now encourages the kids to exclaim, "Hey look ma, I made a trap beat!"

    Marketing? But it's short term thinking (not rare in marketing) going for one market to capitalize on trends ultimately unnecessarily excludes users. Smart marketing in the sense of long-term, would say you can use x app to make this, that, and the other!
    I can't even deal with pigeonholing music "genres", sure there's country and jazz etc, but fitting a given artist gets trickier these days (especially ones I like) and I (of course?) hate that question "what kind of music do you do?" any answer sounds wrong, either too precious or too limited.

    Didn't take it as a dismissal at all: trying to dig down past the usual feature requests that testers will have thought of (user sample import, stem export, AB, Link, landscape mode, Undo, MIDI, alt. time sig., piano roll/note matrix, resample, lasso object groups for copy/cut/paste, live sampling, follow actions! etc), to get to the good stuff...like existential dread, longing, regret, samsara/nirvana, dharmadatu...

    Ah, the suchness in which emptiness and dependent origination are inseparable... I hear you now Sensei....

    @aaronpc's "iron gate" got me going on this tip, but he may have meant an actual iron gate, but there we are again: 1st, form is emptiness and emptiness is form, then emptiness is emptiness and an iron gate is an iron gate...

    @kobamoto
    I understand piano roll is currently on deck, but my sense of the team is they want it all...I plan on hammering a bit more on the following actions.

    As currently is, you can turn "snap to quantization" off...tempted to take potshot at Cubasis here, which has no off for snap, but I won't. Wait, did I say that out loud?

    danke danke

    Funny, I had posted the following actions request with the dev. right after this exchange, (2nd more detailed request) and of all the stuff I'd sent him, this was one of only two he really zeroed in on. The other was when I asked for stem export and he responded "how about MIDI too?" Dig this guy...

  • love devs like this....

    here's a clip that he probably doesn't need to refer to but it's great, legato mode would be sweet too

  • @kobamoto
    Good piece to pass on...

    Here's something these guys were up to well before Ableton Link

    It's like Link but you can be in two different physical location, eg LA/London
