  • +100 the pop ups needs getting rid of especially when I purchase the App.

  • Those popups are absolutely unprofessional. Imagine going to a gig and having to clear prompts on your keyboard or guitar pedal before using them... ridiculous.

The great music apps are the ones where you can feel the respect of the developer for you as a musician, where the interface gets out of your way and lets you get right to making music.

IK apps on the other hand scream "Hey hobbyist, you are a cash cow and our shameless marketing overlords wish to milk you for all you are worth!".

Get rid of the advert splash screens and pop-up ads, period.

  • The app should speak for itself. If it is good, people will be more inclined to buy other stuff that you produce. You don't need popups!

  • A Game Of Thrones type death to popups on a purchased app!

  • Funny how IK pops into the forum from time to time but doesn't address the pop-ups.

  • I think he's just a rep. He's the guy we yell at while his higher-ups ignore us.

How have I not addressed your concerns? " I've passed along any complaints, concerns, suggestions about the in-app messaging I assure you. I will pass yours along as well"

I'm not the one that makes those decisions, and at least my presence here means your posts will actually reach the right people at IK. We do, however, have multiple methods of contact directly on our web site too, though I'd think that an obvious way to directly get your voice heard - from what I'm seeing here with comments like funjunkie27's it might not be so obvious (nor obvious that I'm here to relay your concerns and I am trying to be as helpful as possible).

  • An IK rep is here and is saying they'll pass along the info to the developers. While that's not as nice as some instant feedback we get spoiled by on this forum by dev's like sonosaurus and others, it *is a response. So far this time the rep has kept their shirt on too, and that's good since they have taken a good bit of grief. I'll commend IK for that. Until further update from them I'd say that if I can't live with the pop ups I should use another app. It's not like there aren't plenty out there. I suffer through them on iGrand because I think it's the best piano mod out there. I've moved on from Amplitube because I have alternatives. Now if we could just get a response from those devs, ik....
;-) Thanks for taking the time to stop by this forum from time to time.

  • Sorry @ikmultimedia - I missed where you said that you would pass that on. I did post that out of frustration with seeing them when trying to use various IK apps, and I'm just taken back with how anyone could have considered this as acceptable in the first place for music apps. Do you have any indication on how our feedback is being handled, or if we can expect any resolution. In the case of the latter, is there a timeline estimate? I do like several of IK's apps, but the pop-ups turn me off from using them very often.

  • I don't know yet if there's any specific motion but I do know that it is in the hands of the decision makers and it is looked at and noted by multiple people who forward the information (not just me or those of us on forums). I can't make any promises at this point, unfortunately but wanted to honestly answer best I could.

  • Understood. Thanks for the help and support on this @ikmultimedia.

  • @ikmultmedia do you have any idea of why they chose this marketing strategy and if they think its working? I'm just curious, would love to hear from those decision makers on what they were thinking. At this point I'd be willing to accept the popups before the app actually opens, that way you could close em down open app and rock on! But would still rather not have them at all.
    Thanks.

  • Well, if we are taking votes, I certainly won't pay a penny to IK until I hear there are zero pop-ups in any of their paid apps. It makes sense in a free app if it is intended to be used as a trial version before you buy. However, I can't imagine how I would feel on stage when an advertisement came up. That's simply a deal breaker in my opinion.

  • The information has been passed on and passed on. Over and over since 2010. Those at IK who are ABLE to make the decisions, SIMPLY ARE UNWILLING TO CHANGE THEIR POP-UP STRATEGY. This is as simple as it gets. The reasons may be various, but This is the fact. We complain about the pop-ups, but it comes down to one thing (our choice)....either use the app or don't. I hate to say it, since Peter and Obik have always tried to be responsive, but it is the decision makers that don't care about the opinions of the consumers.

    --Sean

  • I like their newest one, open amplitube and try to look at their new DAW! It auto goes to "you are about to purchase" Studio or whatever its called. Annoying! I just wanted to check it out not be tricked into buying it.

  • IK/Peter/Obik/Gabe are the ones spamming other developers forums/blog to shit. Doesn't have to be another devs site, any forum/community relating to iOS goes (although they are selective where to spread their shit and "kinda" get away with it). Even getting accounts suspended doesn't stop these idiots from creating new accounts and continue posting their crap. And coming up with new ways to shove their crap in people's faces is what they do. And when confronted with it it's always mr nice guy "I did nothing wrong, I'm only here to help you guys blah blah", which seems to work on people with a sheep mentality I guess.

  • Now we're talkin! I'm excited for the next response to this:). At least they put their app in the input of AB. That's something!

  • Maybe now that the unnecessary "Studio" is finished VocaLive will hop on the bus

  • Now if we could just get a response from those devs, ik.... ;-)

I'll bet you 100,000,000,000 astro bucks there isn't a dev in that shop that is happy about having their hard work trashed by popup ads.

Great point about us being spoiled, btw. I've not seen a korg, Yamaha, novation, etc rep on here yet so +1 @ik

Some don't like that we market successful apps and accessories proudly. We're not banned from or warned at TouchOSC forums, ChrisG (again with the cross-forum beef against us, but hey we use a subforum specifically for those types of messages on TouchOSC and others rarely do, and don't get in trouble because it clearly follows the rules and you still keep at this argument? So be it, that is your right.). We relay the information and comments we get from forums, but I make no excuses - I do exactly what I say and I'm up front with everybody on forums. I've had years-long experience on audio forums, have forged great friendships and earned life-long colleagues on some of them, and I find that's all worth it in the end. I had thousands of helpful posts on KVR, for example, before I ever even thought of working for IK. I have no shame about how I act or what I do before, during, and likely after I'm with IK on audio forums and I wouldn't change a thing. I've run into industry colleagues, many I've studied audio/composition with at college (all pre-IK), and awesome strangers at places like Gearslutz and again I wouldn't change a thing.

However, I'll no longer engage this derailment pertaining to other forums as we most certainly behave here by the rules (and at other forums, but you can see differing opinions on that above) but will of course listen to the actual constructive comments and concerns from the users here. ChrisG - your issue with us at TouchOSC forums has been noted MANY times, and I can say that our posts would be deleted, we'd be warned (or Obi would, I don't post there - I do far more than post on a few forums for IK if you'd like to know, I'd be happy to discuss that and anything else IK-related with you directly as I've offered in the past), etc if we weren't behaving. We have no special relationships with any forum, so if we are not following their rules I would of course accept the consequences of any infractions.

syrupcore is correct - this wouldn't be a dev issue, it would lay in the hands of others in the company. Please be aware that no decision is made without attention to many different perspectives and data and nothing that the IK "brass" decides about products, features, etc is done haphazardly. Well, sometimes things get a little crazy and stressful around releases and such but you know that's not what I'm talking about. I don't have direct control over this but I put my weight in where necessary and I also see a lot of the data that affects certain aspects of what we do. I try to be balanced of course, and I do feel I am Obviously others may disagree and take every opportunity on forums to show it, but that's their right.

  • @cruise - did you contact support at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/support? They are there to help with these issues. We also updated today to 3.0.1 which had some fixes.

  • @ikmultimedia. - this isn't meant to be personal or aimed specifically at you. It's a simple matter that having pop-ups appears in a paid for music app, which could potentially impact a performance or recording, is absolutely ludicrous. I don't know of any other music app that does this, so you can expect there will be a lot of discontent with the users, myself included. If IK would stop this, I imagine the company would be far better off.

  • I would buy every app that I don't already own if it stopped! I ain't kidding! But until it does I will not buy another ever!

  • @ik fwiw, I've never purchased an IK app. Once I heard about the pop ups, I was completely turned off.

Know this isn't your decision and part of your job is explaining/promoting/defending other people in your organizations decision whether or not you agree with them. That said, if you wanted to pass some data onto your sales team, there's a quote for you. :)

Cross promoting ads are one thing, if a bit tacky in a paid app. Pop ups that require user interaction are entirely different thing.

    /2 cents

  • I mentioned TouchOSC like once or twice I think? You're all over the Internet with your spam, it's one example of maaaaany. I've seen you guys trying to justify all the crap you do (lying about products, all the spam etc) many times, and it makes you guys just look delirious. Also, it makes the IK brand look really cheap. It's just weird that you guys can't see that.

  • Request to close thread

  • When I spend my hard $ for a App , I don't want any pops ups in it , especially when it could impact on my recording session. Leave that pop up crap for free version of your App. That is an issue that users have be complaining to IK a long time now. If this does not stop I would not purchase another app from them , as a matter of fact I would not purchase any of their products.

  • Agree about popups shouldn't be in paid app versions but this and IK's questionable marketing practices....

    :: Dead Horse ::

  • The free app is another problem with IK, I've started with the free version of all the apps so far and even if you upgrade to the full version or buy every IAP you can't get rid of the free icon. Which tells me that they will always get the pop ups!
