@JiggyWig yes , its fixed ,even though the note input range box can scroll down to display C1 , playing keyboard C1 changes pattern 1 . dont forget this is input , you can lower the basenote for output if you want to output lower octaves .
That probably confuses people. I wonder why they didn't just limit the range?
Well I've spent 2 hours trying to route MIDI out of one ModStep channel into Cream (this bit is easy - yay!), and then route out two tracks of arpy goodness back to separate channels in ModStep, and thence onwards to Lorentz & the Internal synthesizer. Feed in one stream of chords, get two arps out, what a brilliant idea!
I am defeated. I can typically get one channel out just fine.
I've primarily been trying with the Cream virtual out port and setting the output channels. The manuals lead me to believe this is possible. In ModStep I try to take the Cream input on the specified channel and route it out to the target device, and on the target accept MIDI from ModStep. No luck.
I've tried quite a few other combos, but there's so many, and I didn't keep a list, so I've probably just skipped over the magic combo that just works. I've changed stuff around so much I really have no idea what's going on anymore...
MIDI guru insight required; Is what I'm attempting mad, just ill conceived or executed, or are these apps flaky?
@JiggyWig i had this working with Auria as explained in previous thread : using Cream named midi ports throughout , so Cream Virtual Destination / virtual source in Cream app I/O and "Cream" named outputs & inputs in Modstep app .
( because the Input named " Virtual Destination" in Cream app IS the Modstep app Output named "Cream" { virtual destination} ,& Cream app output "Virtual source " similarly IS the virtual source named "Cream" as Input { Virtual Source} in ModStep app )
I suspect it would also work using ALL ModStep named ports also .
When I add in the second channel, the first channel is going mental, with all the notes sticking. I'm beginning to suspect ModStep is at fault here, since I was experiencing some stuck notes before I even added Cream to the project.
I'm going to have to experiment with cubasis and/or my desktop DAW...
you did have ALL midi Input & Output channels set correctly ? ,
you're not routing modstep out track 2 back into cream track 1 input channel perchance ?
Here's what I think SHOULD be working, but isn't; in this configuration both ModStep input tracks are receiving the same notes, the Cream Track 1 notes.
This is probably user error, I am fairly new to this...
yep, just looking at 2 cream photos shows tracks 1 & 2 are BOTH set to midi input channel 5 . input channels should be different .
EDIT I dont know ModStep yet , to understand those photos .i was worried seeing OMNI as an input , unless thats a global input , but cream isnt activated in the input anyway
( you dont normally want OMNI as a track input if receiving more than one channel)
generally set each modstep track input channel to the same channel number as the cream output channel you want to record .
Why should the inputs be different? I want to sending the tracks the same notes deliberately, so I can generate bass & rhythm patterns from the same chord sequence.
If you see the pictures I have set the ModStep input channels to match the Cream tracks. I have Cream track 1 outputting to MIDI channel 1, and track 2 to channel 2. No point confusing myself right
I am going to try my DAW...
..after I've fixed myself a midnight snack. All this MIDI is making me hungry....
Okay, this is a ModStep issue, It works as expected when I loop Cream into Ableton on the iMac. Oddly although I could send to Cream over studiomux I had to return the notes via the Network Session. It is working as expected otherwise.
son of a gun ..you might have mentioned you wanted same chords input !
i misunderstood . well i'm afraid I dont know Modstep ATM to help further
another option maybe just to test parts of the connection is to program the chords into Cream's Chord Memory Slots 1,2,3 etc (use basenote C2 slot 1, C# slot2 etc) , then use ChordMem Trigger to play the note on keyboard realtime C2 , C#2, etc . this would test Cream output into Modstep input .
if you turn off any input to Cream from Modstep & modstep still goes crazy then the problem is Modstep .
Sorry! I did actually say 1 stream in 2 out in my first posting
I will try a more methodical test of ModStep tomorrow then. At first glance it looks like it's not filtering the channel input properly. I will try as you suggested.
Cheers!
My bad then , I missed that . Well hopefully you can help debug Modstep before I commit to it . I gave some Chord Memory tips in the first Cream thread if you didnt see them . Good luck (& good night)
I love this Cream Mobile! It is very comfortable working with Gadget together.
I can make it as complex as you can imagine, but I just make it as a plain vanilla sound.
Highly recommend you buy and so testing it for yourself! I know you will prove its worthiness.
I have recorded a short video showing how Kirnu Cream mobile triggers 4 synths on the same iPad - I have used Sunrizer, NLog PRO, Animoog and Thor for that.
Hope you find this helpful - have fun:
Have only just, finally, opened up Cream, but haven't even thought about using it with Gadget, nor do I even understand how that would get set up yet, but thanks for the thought/inspiration Captain.
Thanks for posting this. A little hard to see the top of your iPad screen (and thus exactly what you are activating/getting at) but still a good motivation...
Johnny, all details about Gadget setup are on those 5 photos below. Gadget will listen when to start the playhead and when to end playhead of for your selected track if stopping by you. Hoping everyone can enjoy CreamMobile. The connection is tight, you won't losing it.
@JohnnyGoodYear,
Johnny, after the basic, you should understand it's strength is laid on 'Seq' button. That button has to do with DAW multi-line notes or any chord you want to play. It is not Cream's chordmemory, it is the chord written on the DAW, then use that chord to arpeggiate CreamMobile or CreamMobile 'CHRDMEM', so CreamMobile becomes a controller to dissect multi-line notes, with CHRDMEM and 'Play Order' button on right hand side, it can do sophisticated trance melody! This is the most important function for EDM tracks. I was always wondering why iOS apps can not easily do a Trance song. This is the holy grail so far on iOS. Nothing can compare! People don't know about this, hope I address the point!
Thank you Johnny - I will take your remark and try to improve the next and perhaps this one as well.

@Kaikoo You are a fine Skipper of the good ship Enthusiasm!
Pleased to see you enjoying and feeling certain about Cream. I don't know why, but even with the first 'not right' version, this app smelled of possibility even to a fool like me. The obvious opportunity outweighs the fear of complexity
I am sure there will be much depth I miss out on (until we are both eating noodles in Taipei one day and you can show me in person what I am missing ), but I can already make enough happen to fire the imagination of my ears and that's all I ever want or look for in an app. And now your Degree Course in Gadget will be perfect for later on when I come back from beating myself up in the gym. Thank you.
Re-read that part after gym, more secret later, if you glad to ask how to one track recording with DAW!
Made something with Cream finally. Used Cubasis since the new ModStep build hasn't come through yet (*). Workflow was reasonably okay, though FM4 crashed on me so often I had to ditch it. Also only used two tracks of 1 pattern each. Next time I'll be trying multiple patterns switched from notes in the control zone...

(*) ModStep were nice enough to let me know my MIDI routing issues are fixed in the forthcoming build.
@JiggyWig Glad you've got it working , that the problem wasn't Cream, & that modStep have the issue fixed already .
I have created and uploaded another video showing some capabilities of Cream mobile - hope you like it:
In this video you can see how to create a bassline using the brand new iPad app Kirnu Cream mobile driving Thor through DFX via Audiobus. Drum track also from Cream mobile.
Audio is recorded in Cubasis.
