Here I was going to say brought to you by Ableton....
Here's a slight detour in this "special" thread that goes to my opinion the Auria might not be the best candidate for a LINK thingie:
I recently bought a shiny new Air2 128gb model so I could have plenty of space and power for Auria Pro. I upgraded from Auria and was all excited. However when I try to record guitars or vocals into Auria, I get a lot of noise that I can't eliminate very easily, despite Pro-C and Pro-G. I can eliminate similar noise easily on Cubasis, GarageBand, and n-Track with various noise gates and eq on the low end, same thing doesn't do it as well on Auria. -I'm sure I just need to keep fiddling with adjustments, but my point here is: what if everybody wants synchronization but not everybody likes Auria best? If an independent comes up with a Sync app I'd buy it yesterday, just like independent DAWs and Corporate DAWs.
By the way I also cast my vote for this thread to go into the all time top 10. (#1 is still the "no wanking on the bus" thread from many years ago...)
Many years ago, I was all Fingers & Thumbs them.......lol.......
As I still don't have AuriaPro the only place where Link would make sense in a DAW such as AuriaPro is for synchronising playback and recording since Link can not be used to 'remote control' apps running on the devices.
In practice AuriaPro (or any DAW for that matter) should just wait for the next 'Link Pulse' before starting playback or recording. For the record function there should be a small 'pre-roll buffer' to avoid loosing the start of a recording.
I can't shake it but for me Link is mainly a 'live performance aid' to keep apps in sync since it currently lacks remote-capabilities.
There are different conversations going on here, mostly in response to questions posed by the original post. Can Ableton and Korg be trusted? Do they really care about us users or just want our money? If we like Link, are we then not supporting iPad music apps? Must we favor small developers over large? Should Rim develop "Auria Link," or will we be slaved to desktop systems because the iPad isn't the master of its own domain? Then, there's another question. Is Link even the answer to all our syncing desires and a solution to all our syncing problems?
I've never even used Link. Apparently it's working nicely for some people for what they do. This is more a philosophical discussion about what's best for us as consumers. I think the point some of us are making here is that there's no big controversy with Link. It poses no threat to anyone. Whether you find the thread compelling or not, that's the response to the original post.
Link. It's free, can be used within ios only, and it's an absolute pleasure to use. Pretty much the technology of the year IMO and personally I have no desire to overcomplicate things with multiple standards.
Luckily with Audiobus you CAN remote start all Link apps with one transport button, so it works for that too. Or, it would, if Auria had Link support.
^^
I know I have enough apps, but I'm pretty much not buying any new apps that don't have Link.
Link makes my particular use of my iPad as an instrument to be so much easier.
The only thing I need now is to improve my own timing
You sir are a disgrace to the informal great nation of Appaholia and the starving children of a thousand developers who scream for bowls of fruit loops that will forever remain unsynced.
Let them Link for their soup or go eat cake
Prediction: Cubasis 2 vs. Auria Pro -- Whoever adopts Ableton Link first will take the Lion's Share.
BM3 took it already.
But seriously waiting for the new Link V2 to get adopted by all apps!
