    Just midi mapping as usual.

Editing plus a comprehensive live thing.

    All the same template.

The bottom pic is the live thing. With the centre ipad as drums ( plus an loopy interface for drums )

The right ipad has different switchable midi controllers for 8 swam.

and the left ipad use/switches the synths you see.

Theres more background sources and with hardware midi controllers.

This it all switches to an edit thing.

With piano roll on the left synth ipad.

and neon on the right ipad sending sequences to left ipad.

  • Update: added an Oberheim Matrix-6 to my setup, everything around my desk is on wheels.

Today I decided to setup pretty much every piece of music gear I’ve collected over the years and hook them all up together.

The right side is an iPad central setup. The left side is DAW-less with MPC at the center of everything. The 2 sides are bridged through an Arturia Keystep which takes in USB MIDI from the USB hub on the right side and passes it through MIDI DIN to the MPC which has the synths on the left connected to it. This allows the iPad to send MIDI to the MPC and through the MPC to all devices on the left as well, including analog synths hooked up to MPC with CV. On the right side I’m using a Korg SQ-1 analog sequencer as a USB MIDI to cv converter to play the Moog Werkstatt-01 with the MPK Mini.

There are 2 pairs of studio monitors. On the right side the hardware synths (audio out) and iPad (USB) go into the SP404 which I’m using as an audio interface. On the left, everything is hooked up to the MPC which is connected directly to the speakers on the left.

Took about 5 hours to setup. Oh the cables and wires!

    • 15 1/4 inch TRS cables
    • 17 variety of USB cables
    • 1 MIDI DIN cable
    • 1 Roland USB MIDI interface UM-one
    • 12 power cords
    • Minimum 6 CV wires
    • 2 USB hubs
    • 2 power strips

This is what AUM looks like:

At the end of the day you really don’t need any of this stuff. As far as producing music goes, all that this equipment does can be done on a single iPad. But sitting in the middle of all this and playing around is a joy and a source of never ending fun. 🙂
