Does anyone have any information regarding the state of this app?
I'm very upset.

@kobamoto Weird. I pulled this out a couple of nights ago to check on the differences inside and outside of Tabletop and found the standalone app more frustrating than ever. As always, so much to like, but then crazy scenes with Audiopaste and program problems on top of my usual frustrations. Absolutely wins the 'most loaded/most deleted' app in my universe... what's got your beard singed Mister K?

  • I'd say that it's still a big disappointment. A lot of hype pre-release, a half-baked product, and not a lot of updates since.

  • edited January 2016

when it first came out with all of it's problems it was still better than it is now.... it's basically useless.
works up until I sample something, then nothing but silence after that, it's like the app literally assumes it's not supposed to play anything, ufcking ipsses me off to no end :s

  • Maybe we'll see "iMPC Pro Plus" released at NAMM with 0% discount for existing users.

The Retrodudes are extremely quiet on both FB and Twitter at the moment...

Many people say that oh well, retronyms have got their own thing going etc, etc but actually, on reflection it doesn't really fit into the IOS music environment. The IOS music environment is mostly modular and requires the already absolute standard features such as general paste board, AAI and Audiobus (and now I guess Link). The apps that don't satisfy those requirements are bound for failure and faith of the most deleted app on any half serious musician's device.

They are all good efforts but it is almost like building a car that is twice as wide as the road or uses tartar sauce as fuel.

    What's the freaking point?

  • I've tried to like iMPC Pro and Tabletop. I keep going back and trying to get use out of them.

Now Link is here, without that, they will eventually get deleted.

  • People are going to learn to leave those jokers alone. They never complete anything. How many of you pre-ordered their Wej? All that time for a box with LEDs and BLE? You could have ordered a PUC+ by now ->

  • tartar sauce as fuel

    Line of the day.

  • its still pretty cool .......OXOX

  • Glad I got my refund on impc pro, knew it was a lemon as soon as I opened it

  • I barely ever use iMPC PRO but I still like Tabletop a lot.
Not really expecting it to happen but Tabletop AU hosting would be a great move, if it worked as expected - with automation.

  • To be fair they added link and it still has a lot of good features. Sadly they don't really like addressing issues at Retronyms....

I take it back, must have missed Link in the update. Fair dues to Retronym then for adding Link :) Thanks for pointing this out :)

  • Once the AUM from Kymatica hits the AppStore it will be easier integrate iMPC Pro when needed and with Link it's easy to keep things in sync.

In iMPC Pro's 'defence' the iTunes 'sampling' with the Turntable is very handy (honestly the best one out there) as is the IAA instrument sampling (it waits for input before starting to record, wish AudioShare could do that!).

There are however other issues that are pretty darn annoying, like the 'rubber band effect' on the program menu making it impossible to select the last entry (it gets hidden under the 'content store' banner) and the 'crashing' left locator preview that makes the app go all silent and unstable. Not to mention that sometimes not all notes play(polyphony issues?).

Not to mention the handling of programs/mixer. Instead of having a mixer channel per 'program' it would make more sense to have a mixer-channel per pad.

Somehow I feel that if the developer actually spent some time using the app these issues would not be there at all...

  • the iTunes sampling is cool and all but personally that's the only thing I prefer in bm2, you can audition before loading up to chop, where as with the impc pro you've got to load the song up on the turn table listen and if it's not what you want go back and reload another song etc.... unnecessarily for that extra step, especially when people are generally in a sampling session they are going to be searching through allot of samples. To have to go back and load each time you want to check something out is tedious.

anyways at this point after I sample something in impc pro and slice it up the app ceases to work. iPad mini 4 latest os

    I wouldn't be happy with a 0% discount!!!

Anyway, I just got a support email. They're working on fixes right now.

That's nice to hear, did you use the [email protected] email?

Once the next update hits the Appstore I'll dig thru my personal 'issues list' and forward it to Eric :)

A crash that I never asked about  I wrote them because exporting to MPC desktop software doesn't (currently) save the chop positions. They also seemed determined to fix that, as well as the audio engine failure bug.

I tweeted them, @Samu, and they suggested I send to [email protected], yes.

    Anyway, this just came through.

  • thanks icepulse

  • Peace to my Audiobus peoples.

  • I could never get into this app. Every time I got something good going to would crash and I would lose momentum. Annoying cause theres a lot of potential and I like the samples

  • I fought the good fight with iMPC Pro as long as possible here but in the end BeatHawk rendered iMPC obsolete.

As a former MPC Hardware guy I say BeatHawk is as good as it gets on iOS for that feel and workflow.

    Feel and workflow.

  • @JohnnyGoodyear The things (I imagine) Bruce Lee would demand from his iOS virtual drum machine.

  • @Proppa It's a hard thing to get across about Beathawk; not the most precise, not the most elegant, not the most exact, not the most sophisticated, but for a certain song-writing the easiest and best application. For some of us at least. I hardly always believe it myself, but whenever I come back to it I make things....

  • I have made a few tracks on it and you can get stuff out of it as long as you recognise the nuisances. Sampling from an external source causes lots of issues. Link and export to MPC desktop are welcome additions. I would give it a shot if your serious about iOS sampling / beatmaking
