Any word on Caustic 3.2 release?
I notice that it was at the alpha stage last autumn- it's only 3.1.2 that's in the app store just now- any idea when it's coming? I'm looking forward to it.....
Comments
I've been using the 3.2 beta. No major problems with it. AB has't been updated but it works for the most part.
It's been quiet on the Caustic forum. Dev mentioned burn-out around Christmas. He's also working on a mastering app.
I sent him a request for the beta but no joy yet. I'm dying for that stereo PCM support and those time signature options!
Are you registered for the forum? He asked users to register, give an idea of what gear you have and what email to use to send link.
Sorry for the belated reply--
I registered on the Caustic forums and messaged Rej through the forum message function. I did describe my gear (iphone 6+) but I'm not sure that I typed my email address within the body of the message. Maybe that's where I went wrong. I guess I assumed the forum messenger would include that automatically...
As mentioned elsewhere it's been a dull month and in an attempt to change things up I decided to dumb things down (as it were) by returning to Caustic for the first time in a long while.
It's been on my mind since recent discussions/suggestions that the 'simple' sounds it gets derided for are really a matter of initial flatness and that with some polishing up and additions it has more to offer than many give it credit it for.
Just to add to that, after working on a simple 16 bars of bass-ish noise with four tracks to fatten things out all run through FLUX, the sound ends up as complex as one might wish. All the while benefiting from the simply-easy-to-master piano roll and dead easy song sequencer.
A couple of nags about importing problems (the old 'reading audioshare as not installed' etc), but all stuff I'd imagine will be dealt with/forgotten about in the new version. I hope the dev's burn out has burned out and that the next edition of this fine -and perhaps overlooked by some of us and that's our loss- piece of work finally makes it to the market.
Yeah I somehow fell into Caustic recently too. One Saturday i think i went 16 hours into it, and the nicest part was no crashing at all. For whatever reason I liked the arrangements I was making in Caustic better than what I do in Gadget.
Dev has been active on forums recently but no word on official release.
Importing issues mentioned by @JohnnyGoodyear can be overcome by using Open In from AudioShare (for instance) instead of trying to import from Caustic. AB and AS need to be updated in Caustic.
I use Documents5 app by Readdle to act as a conduit between Caustic and Dropbox using the Caustic FTP server. Gives me access to all Caustic folders and file transfer both ways.

Caustic has so many options. Build a sequence and use AB to run it through an effects chain recorded into AS. Sweet! Use external apps (like midiSTEPS) to add extra controllers to Caustic parameters. In the Caustic beta there is a very good time stretch function.
And oh so very much more!
Thanks for the workarounds/options.
I must add a further dash of honesty and say that I also added a new skin to the layout and, while not perfect, this makes the app look a tad more sophisticated. Ridiculous, but there you are, I suppose I am
The "Darker" skin is my preference. I thought of making my own but I don't think the difference between Darker and what I would do is worth the time investment. Maybe when I retire it will keep me occupied. Of course, at the rate things are going, retirement will be equal to Death.
@anickt Ah yes, Death, was just thinking about that yesterday. Three most common thoughts or concerns of those on the very verge are almost exclusively Forgiveness (for sins secular or otherwise), Remembrance (of the self by others) and Meaning (as regards the time spent in the life lived). Quite salutary and a good perspective for those of us still living (especially as regards app angst and the slowness of good song-writing ).
Forgiveness = but I didn't do it!
Remembrance = I know I walked into the kitchen for something...
Meaning = let me Google that
I tried my hand at making a multi-sampled instrument and it was amazingly easy and obvious for every step. I will share it now, it is ten or so samples of my kid talking about a recurring bad dream, starting at note C4 and up to C8.

Rough dream!
MONSTER EATS ME!
@rhcball OK. Get this kid some braces. It's the American way. He needs immediate orthodenture to overcome his fears of relative inconsequence in this difficult world. I think you'e going to need a Kickstarter campaign....
He later admitted to me that he made it up because he didn't feel like sleeping in his room. He does dream a lot about raccoons though, apparently.
Sounds like a perfectly normal young unit. And now you can tell him that his voice is been playing on keyboards in different far flung corners of the world...
Question for anyone who is using the Beta: are there any tweaks to the way you program pitch bends into the piano roll? Specifically, are pitch bends still only allowed on monophonic instruments?
Any news / guesses / rumors / hopes?
I guess there'll be rumors about some news...I hope
Nothing new of late.
Update: Ummmm.... Looks like a new beta today. iOS version not showing up yet.
How on earth you install Crashlytics?
Request to receive the beta on the Caustic forum. You'll get an email with link. You have to be registered.
Are you sure you did not post on a Gadget thread?
Thanks, I guess I have to wait
I requested beta access months ago, and followed up without any response. don't think he's looking for testers right now.
Anyone else on here prefer Caustic to Gadget or vice versa? And why?
I can get a flow going in Caustic that I don't get in Gadget. It makes me feel like I'm using my old hardware setup. Intangibles for sure but a definite difference for me.
There's also something about the sound of Gadget I don't like. Caustic has its sonic limits but the whole package ultimately fits together well.
I also like the onboard wave editor a lot. The beta has timestretch and you can bake in effects. Nice!
That's a big long question and I DO like Caustic, very efficient, even generous maybe, software. And I dug it out again this afternoon for a while and ran it through AB, added some effects got a bassline going I liked, varied it a little and exported three patterns from song mode to Auria and it may be just fine, BUT I didn't want to do anything else in there. Opened up Gadget and started writing a song.
Just the opposite here. Funny ain't it? Crazy humans...
I LOVE that about humans Just apart from the bit where some folks feel the need to argue the toss for their toast...
