Kirnu Cream goes back on sale ($6.99) with a weird message

"What's New
The initial release version wasn't the correct one but some version from 6 months ago. This version has the correct binary."

Is this why people were having such a hard time?

  • Yes the original release version was an older binary. The Dev offered test flight access to anyone over xmas / new year that emailed lowing them to get correct binary.

    I never got anything.

I totally gave up on this app due to issues.

Honestly, Cream and Modstep were 2 huge fails for me.

Never got either to really do anything I wanted.

Modstep - my fault. I never even was able to play another synth with Modstep. I just never got it. Never had it happen before.

    reposted below vvvv

  • @Rustik , dont totally give up ,
re. Cream as far as I know there are no longer any technical issues or crashes with the correct binary .If your problem is understanding the app , I am working on a tutorial , although it's taking some time for me to learn new video skills whilst battling with equipment issues .
I wasnt going to post this , but as this thread has appeared , I uploaded a new tune & title sequence earlier today to test things . I cant promise when I will deliver , but I hope you take heart that at least Cream is functioning & a tutorial is coming ...
I would also say Modstep are working hard debugging & working on tutorials ,
both will be worthwhile apps to have .

Oops, no video is showing. Never mind it is working now

  • Is this just an advertisement for an upcoming video?

  • Not much info here

  • edited January 2016

Well yes , but I posted so @Rustik would know at least it works (the music is all Cream) , & someone is working on a tutorial .
The music demonstrates 4 arpeggiating tracks using chord memory & patternsequencers.
the graphics animation shows making use of a patternsequencer to change the SEQ lane where the letters are written .

  • Maybe they decided to put on sale because a blog awarded it as app of the week? It is cryptic. Seems like they should mention a sale somewhere.

    https://m.facebook.com/KirnuArp

  • Highly tempted at this price with the iAP on sale this time as well. It puts Kirnu at about the price one should expect. Still it looks to be a real pain in the ass to program to me.

  • @Tritonman StepPolyArp $12.99 , Thesys $14.99 , BStep sequencer $8.99 ... all single instances
Cream is X4 the functionality of each of those , or rather can cover all the above with a track to spare .

Sorry if I seem like a salesman , I am biased because I believe in this app, but also as a fellow 5year IOS musician I know how well Cream compares functionality/price in "the market"

  • have no Cream so asking (probably stupid Q) why would i need more than one track? (IAP) ?

  • So you can arp more than one sequence at a time.

You can feed in multiple MIDI streams if you like, but I've most often been having fun sending over a single stream of block chords to 3 tracks; using one track to make a bass line, one to arp or syncopate the chords and one to do a simple melody line.

It needs work afterwards, but it's quite a cool way to experiment with multiple parts. Not sure if I will work this way long term, but it's certainly amusing me at the moment.

@Goozoon listen to the music in video above , there are all the 4 tracks playing simultaneously , as @JiggyWig says . Using the same chords ( stored in the ChordMemory & sequenced in the ChordSeq lane ) there is a bass , chords & 2 melody lines . The sounds are all from the internal synths BTW.

Whatever you think of the music , I hope it shows the power of the sequencer .
it was an experiment beginning with programming the same rythmn into the different tracks , (changing its rate in the chords) , & randomising the chord sequence until good results . I had no idea of the outcome when I started . I just wanted a non-EDM arpeggiating example for the title sequence .

  • and each track can have own BPM?

  • No BPM is Global , but each pattern in each track can have a different Rate
    1/1 ,1/4, .. 1/64 (x D & T ) , so can play at different rates relative to the Global BPM.
The first video I made Etude was specifically to demonstrate this aspect of Cream ,
if you listen the bass & melody change rates each bar , & the chords play doublespeed in acouple of bars . If you study the screen you will see the Rate knob change to different values each bar for each track .

  • Thanks.
Synergy Studio has multitrack arp capabilties with hold/glide, accents, but limited to 1/16,1/8,1/4.
I bought Cream when was on sale for the first sale so probably will buy the IAP as well.

  • Ah, that is the message that has been there for a while now. It's not weird per se IMHO. If it said "orange whales smoke bananas in the library" it'd be weird.

I got the app when not on sale, and I think it is the most advanced/competent arpeggiator on iOS.

  • I was supposed to learn either this or Modstep last time i had performance-enhancing drugs but i fell into a C[austic]-hole so i will have to try again in February.

  • Ok, i know im a hobby beginner, but i can drive two and more synths from steppolyarp. Rate is per app as i can see, tho

  • @Goozoon sorry I dont understand what you mean " rate is per app as I can see , tho " ,
unless you're still talking about StepPolyArp ?

I bought cream last night and I like it.

However, no Dorian scale...ironically the mode I'm working in right now... And there is every other scale under the sun!

  • @johnfromberkeley glad you like it ,
for Dorian select major in scale menu & then in mode box change to 2

This is cool. I will also point out that the manual is on your side, if it hasn't happened here yet

sorry @johnfromberkeley , don't get what you mean about this .

    Learning my video chops
EDIT: retrospective repost of revised video

  • I've decided that Cream Mobile is the closest thing to Sugar-byte's Consequence available on iOS. It is an arp at its core, but the extra tracks and the way they can interplay puts it in another space.

Cream definitely isn't as fun and friendly, but on the plus side, you aren't stuck with burned in sounds like in Consequence. It has real power if you have the patience. I'm going to keep hacking away at it.

  • yes i was ref to steppolyarp

    Consequence has MIDI out
