To me it's always desirable to get universal apps. The phone is just the most mobile device there is and coupled with actual instruments and controllers it's just very convenient!

I'm not opposed to universal apps either. I'm easy this way.

Exactly - do it as a paid upgrade.

Money isn't the issue i would love to just use more apps in more ways.

I agree with you on your points nonetheless.

I think paid upgrades doesn't exist on the App Store, all the updates are free so an update making an app universal would be free. It would have to be a separate iPhone version of the app wich I prefer if it leads to a better experience on the small screen and developers wouldn't be working for free.

  • Totally agree that there's still a need for a quality MIDI editor/step sequencer on iPhone. There's some DAW's like Music Studio and even GarageBand that have basic capabilities. And there's the newly-renamed MIDI Sketch, but it's clunky as an editor and has some limitations:

Caustic on iPhone actually works pretty well, but lacks a few export features. Gadget on iPhone is going to be awesome - I'll probably just spend more time in that ecosystem, though I'm curious how it will work since several Gadget machines are iPad-only.

  • In general, I tend not to use the iPhone for music beyond controller or being comtrolled. There are a few apps that work on the iPhone but for me the vast majority don't. The iPhone can work well as a sound module though. With iOS 9 and improved ability to sync iOS devices along with OSX plus Link, I see myself using multiple iOS devices and OSX in a modular fashion.

  • Gadget is on the way. According to the Steinberg forums even Cubasis for iPhone is in the works, though a ways away.

If SECTOR ever makes it to iPhone I will dance with joy, to a beat made with SECTOR of course.

All in all there is a healthy amount of music making apps for iPhone, but yeah the more the merrier.
