  • Invites sent out this morning, sorry for the delay, Apple took ages to approve the build for some reason.

iPad version ready to go. Will likely send out invites this weekend.

@Matt_Fletcher_2000 I'll try that out tonight, see how it looks.

    Cool. Thanks.

    Looks good!

  • Just begun playing with the Testflight and this is RIDICULOUSLY FUCKING GOOD.

@Matt_Fletcher_2000 go make an album. Right now.

    word. +1 what he said

  • Can I plz get into the beta too ? This looks fascinating!

  • I mean it needs a thousand complicated things that we want, but without them we must make the noise that's easily and obviously right there. No small thing. And yes, then you shove it into AUM and flake it with FLUX and Dub and the crumbs of its own internal biscuits, but it just smells like one of those rare ones that makes you want to make something right now.

Has anyone else tried this under AB with Crystaline in FX slot? I'm getting nasty crackles when using left and right Synth interval controls.

Was just using this concurrently through AUFX Dub, Crystaline, FLUX and Stereo Designer. All good. BUT getting some effects/artifacts/whatever when playing with the interval controls (read your whole line finally :)). Guessing that's why we're testing it....

  • @JohnnyGoodyear Thanks so much it means a lot :)

Definitely interested to hear your ideas for features, though for the record once this release is out I'm likely going to experiment with charging for the app (people would pay two bucks for this thing right?), so entirely up to you if you want to share your ideas.

  • @Nathan What device are you using? By crackling, do you mean it's dropping audio? Also, is the app in the foreground or in the background?

(The code which draws the moving waveform is stupidly inefficient and eats CPU while the app is in the foreground, I'm trying to decide if it's worth the time it would takes to rewrite it properly in OpenGL)

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000 Trying out what you said about key labels, I think it's a good idea of yours.

  • @Nathan Re: the former, when you change the interval, since the note's pitch might change underneath the key, the underlying code has to stop and start any notes that change, I suspect this might be what you're hearing.

There was a bug where the reverb unit really didn't like it sometimes when you stop and start notes and would respond with a pretty angry crackling noise. This will be fixed in the next build (which I'm uploading now). Can't guarantee it will fix your specific problem, though. Please let me know if it does! :P Yay programming!

Re: the latter problem, I'll have to try it out myself.

  • Note labels totally killed performance (too many UILabels getting redrawn all the time), so that will likely be a v2.1 feature. Can't wait to ship this pile of jank!

  • Love this app, very expressive and best of the vocoder apps IMO

    @dclelland

Note labels would be a definite plus. I like the uncertainty but only until I don't. Maybe a toggle on and off :)

And, yes, to reiterate: Some way of saving THIS SET-UP SO PERFECT RIGHT HERE NURSE for future full joy reloading would also be killer.

Yeah, I must admit already having a reluctance to keep pushing the app, whenever I chance upon something incredible sounding, knowing that I can't replicate it without writing down every parameter.

It's the biggest single don't-care-about-anything-else frog in the pile for this app at this point.

  • @Nathan thanks for your feedback! Good to hear the issues are clearing up.

Gosh, I was going to work on the last few AB/IAA issues and then a demo video this weekend, but now I'm thinking about how I could cram a preset system in here.

The app already persists the current patch between sessions, so that layer is already sorted - this is purely a case of putting together a UI I'm happy with.

  • One thing I'm having trouble figuring out how to do is preventing people from using the effect port as a sender port in Audiobus (Synthesiser is the Generator port, and Vocoder is the Effect port, I'm going to change this).

Both come up under when selecting an input in Audiobus.

My audiobus setup looks like this:

  • Hey that's not an unreasonable idea (saving as IAP). I might just steal that.

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000 Still waiting for a quirky opus from you with this left-field inspiration maker...

I'll try my best. When I get some time.

I have only just downloaded the new beta TBH. But looks promising. (ADSR is most welcome!!)

I'm thinking of jamming into BlocsWave and then experimenting with chopping up.

Part of the Audiobus SDK is that you can't charge for Audiobus compatability. It might be beneficial to address your developer questions to the Audiobus Developer Center.

Here we go. This is very rough. Some chopped up Howl somewhat slapped (sorry) over a track I sketched out a while back. Not sure myself... But it's a start:

Like it. Full toe tapping. Half way through another track (youtube, spoken words, old man) began in my headphones in a perfect match (and one never to be found again). I also like that I would have never have thought to use this so speedily. Good.

Another glitch. Hope you're still working in this? Just found that the most recent HOWL is not showing up in list of AudioBus apps unless already running.

Hiya, yeap, still working on it, though I've been spending a lot of time chasing my own tail trying to get it to work with IAA. I've come to accept that a certain percentage of the time it's not going to work in IAA apps like AUM without having to restart the app :( That's just the way it goes I guess. AudioBus still working fine, however.

I suspect the reason it's not showing up in AudioBus is because I tweaked the AudioBus ports a couple of times - so the ones in the AudioBus database are likely newer than the ones in the currently distributed build.

Hoping to get a final build out tonight!

  • @dclelland I love this app (have I mentioned this already?), but I have largely stopped using it until I can save set-ups/patches. I find things I love and then can't save them and this feels like snogging an amazing girl you'll never meet again etc.

  • Sorry for necroposting but whatever happened to this app ? Please tell me it's not permanently dead :(
The TestFlight betas expired so I can't even run the old version now....
