Audiobus? Link? Audioshare?
Sounds nice, looks fun, and I'll take the plunge at 20 bucks.
Audiobus is a slightly tricky one for Takete. iOS doesn't allow OpenGL operations to be performed in the background so if you were switching apps, the visual output would stop. It may be possible to disable the visuals and then use Audiobus - using Takete purely for audio processing. I'm currently working on Ableton Link, but after that I'll have a think about implementing Audiobus.
I love Doug and family but don't rely on reviewers please, make a series of brief clips showing each aspect of the app and what it does yourself as nobody knows the app better than the dev , doesn't need to be that polished crud that NI puts out, and let us have at it
Well, I'll say it again: it's a ridiculously high price to start with, and the dev erased questions regarding just that as soon as I had posted them, trying to get information about his reasoning... . It will take some time to regain my trust concerning this App (with, of course, a different attitude, and different pricing). I don't feel respected by the developer, thus I won't give him my money. Also: 40 still is too much, I'll keep using my PC for the audiovisual stuff, where I have tenfold possibilities for just a little more money (Quartz Composer/Vdmx), with very nice reasonable developers to communicate with.
Nice try, though...
everyones two cents on their complaints of pricing would quickly add up to the cost of this app for many peeps. its a brilliant app, and im very much looking forward to its progression.
I would like to see an audio only version of Takete, then it could be AB compatible etc and a more reduced price. I prefer to make visuals separately and if I was going to mix visuals live would use a more advanced non iOS setup.
I don't do any video...
I would be interested in just the audio part of the app. With Audioshare for sample import. And reasonable price... Could that be possible?
If you strip out the video then it's hard to see a USP for Takete compared to launchpad or even the latest version of GarageBand.
I did try the light version but have already deleted that. Not really that impressed even if it was a twenty dollar app but then I am much more into audio than video production. Perhaps as a video tool it may be useful to someone but certainly nothing I would invest in for audio production. I agree launchpad is much more appealing for something like that and certainly more friendly to the pockets.
The ability to export the project to the camera roll is worth $40 alone, I would pay the TouchViz guy(s) $40+ if they added it.
Now I just have to hustle $40 somehow
Does this actually generate any video, or does it simply pepper existing video with effects and transformations?
There's more potential going on here than Launchpad for me, granular synth, drum sequencer (although limited) matrix sequencer, touch looper, recorder. It's quite an interesting all in one and if this was developed further could be pretty powerful on it's own without the need for visuals.
It lets you apply effects to existing video clips which you can import from your camera roll or use the built in ones.
But it lets you launch different clips at the same time either manually or via linking to other pads. (So for the sake of argument you could have a video clip of the keyboard being played every time you launched the audio clip of the keyboard).
Let's you control how the various clips are mixed on screen
And then it lets you record your whole performance to a video file in the camera roll
I agree, the interest is in the immediate sync audiovisual rendering, I personally feed takete with gadget clips, I really like the audio FXs but not much the internal sound modules (glad to have them though)
Can you record live audio with it? @RefinedStTech, do you plan to add AU support in the foreseeable future?
what the hell am I talkin about, there's enough videos on Takete.
how does Takete compare with Vidibox?
You can record the master audio output (either with video or separately). Also, there is now an audio looper instrument. It's basically like a high fidelity stomp box looper with pitch control. It records whatever audio is running through the channel it is placed on - including the chain of inline fx. Audio files from this can be saved and exported.
I haven't thought about AU support, don't know much about it to be honest. Does that allow external audio units to be used? Could be pretty cool although would probably look strange against the Takete UI. At the moment the focus is to add many more audio fx. The other priority will be more instruments, thinking to add a wavetable synth and a non-sample based drum machine.
I expressed myself poorly: can one record live audio, e.g.: a guitar, into takete using the audio looper?
Ah yes, you just need the External and Recorder instruments on one channel. The audio from External (whatever is plugged in or the mic input) will be captured into the Recorder. The clips or channel will have to be polyphonic so that you can have clips playing simultaneously - you'll see what I mean if you try it.
One advantage of Takete is it doesn't immediately drop your video quality by half.
yes finally a dev who says 'more effects....is.....a ....... priority!!!!!!
glitching fx
time shifting fx
mangling fx
etc......
so tired of bit crushers, reverbs, overdrive, and distortions
have a question can Taketes drum sampler sequencer record quintuplets?
Quintuplets? There isn't any sequence recording at the moment. The next change for the drum sequencer will probably be a shift control to get precise swing values (any distance/ratio between the adjacent notes). Something similar will be implemented for Matrix too.
looks like it has a step sequencer?
Yes, there's a step sequencer in Sample Drum for controlling the four samples in that instrument. There is also a separate one, Matrix that is currently used to control the Granular instrument but will control other instruments and FX parameters in future versions.
so what I mean is can the drum sampler grid be set to no quantization or can it be set to triplets?
can the notes be nudged
Not at the moment, it's currently fixed to 1/16 notes. But there will be a variable swing/offset control added soon - most likely to each individual drum part.
ok and thank you for all the info
I have a humble suggestion for this app: It would be great if there was a 'Pro' version and a slightly cheaper ''Basic' version. The Pro version could have the HD output and all those options for audio/visual professionals who use this stuff in live settings.
The reason is, these days I'm just a hobbyist with this stuff. Back when I was VJing and doing live A/V art projects I would have happily paid full price for this app, but now it's just a hobby to keep me sane between work and family. I'd love to try this app but it's a high entry price just to tinker with a new app in my room. Something like this tiered approach would help you recoup some of the development costs. I hope the devs will consider this.
A teenage operator pocket size synth costs 80 bucks while a monotron is around 20 quids less. Just sayin.
I don't mean to be rude to anyone but, really, every topic on a specific app, no matter what, ends up with expel complaining about price. Pretty boring isn't it?
EDIT: And you don"t get any free demo.
