I'm sure I'll be buying (or trying to) later tonight. I'm an unrepentant completist when it comes to KORG IAP modules.

  • I'm also getting an "Invalid item ID" error when I try to buy the new Triton sound library,

    Bummer!

  • Looks like they finally gave the sounds pitch bend. Also, might be the first piano app with the ability to tune to 432 hz. Might have to try it out in light of articles I've seen about standard tuning.

  • Sean Harland: " completist " rotfl lolololol

  • I am also gettin error when I try purchase

  • Instant buy. Because I waited so badly for reasonably workstation sounds inside Gadget. Download completed successfully. My first impressions are mixed. Especially, the guitars are really really bad :( But there are also a lot of inspiring sounds included. I think it is worth the 10 bucks.

  • Triton large pack is AMAAAAAAAAZING!

Especially if you like house music from the 1990's or higher quality and caliber versions of Sampletank type sounds, only with the control and quality of Korg.

It is a lovely assortment of well chosen sounds. Unlike, im1 which was overloaded with the old jumbled interface and more useless sounds than quality making it overall cumbersome.

Well the Korg Module Triton IAP is the exact opposite!

  • Dunno - I think it's subjective. I really like iM1, not that keen on the Triton sounds. For me iM1 was more vintage than cheesy (well, a little cheesy), Triton seems to be mostly cheesy.

I lack words for the "Techno VoxBox" preset, it as cheesy as can be :D

  • Doug will certainly do a review on the sounds.

  • Hmmm. Seems to be the full gamut here from amazing to full cheese.......toast.

  • if there were more robust fx in Gadget I would consider Triton and the general retro re-release nostalgia but I was so turned off by iM1. It could sound interesting when processed but naked was cringe worthy.

    [Inserts obvious self-deprecating comment etc.]

  • Just downloaded the Triton pack and I have to say not only am I underwhelmed, it's reminding me of the worst period of synths. This ones for Korg enthusiasts only in my book. It's the first purchase I've regretted paying the money. I hate leaving bad reviews and I buy apps just to support developers but this one is a very acquired taste.
The update for the external mod wheels was welcomed though if a bit overdue, and the Gadget update looks pretty impressive so it's a good day all round, glass half empty/ half full whatever.

  • A lot of dance music which is rather popular right now is straight from the old Triton/M1 playbook as far as synth sounds. Smart move by Korg to put this out.

  • I found the demo (in Module) to be a tad underwhelming, hopefully someone will do something more representative.

  • @Captaintitanic I agree. I regret this purchase. It's not even really a new gadget. It's just 100 Triton presets that turn up in Glasgow. I have very similar sounds on my other synths. There are a few really great patches, but not IMHO $10 worth. Maybe in the future, they will offer more presets as inexpensive IAPs and I will feel better, because there are some great Triton sounds out there.

I was too influenced by the sale and the desire to have another gadget. I wish I would have taken the $10 and put it towards something I've been wanting for a long time, like Mitosynth or Nave.

In all fairness, I feel like the demo did a good job of indicating that this would be a 'cheesy' addition to the sound bank. And if you've played a Korg Triton, these sounds come as no surprise. However I agree with Reid on this one. Less expensive, smaller sample sets would be more appealing. Even having the option to pick and choose the tones you like from the Triton pack would make me more willing to invest in an IAP. Most customers aren't going to justify the $$ or the space this takes up if it only offers a handful of useful sounds.

  • I nice little end-around from the sales department while we are/were full of new juice excitement. Sold me.

It's only like 35MB so the space it takes its no concern.

Not sure how you could be disappointed by the Triton IAP, unless you never used a Triton and have no idea what kind of sounds it offers. A lot of bands I was into from the late '90s to mid 2000s used Tritons and I'm thrilled to have those sounds on my iPad.

  • They should release an IAP of mellotron with master tapes, half speed included...

  • I'm waiting for the Trinity V3 IAP now that was a silver beast!
I still have the original though I might as well sample it.

I have a Triton le sitting in the other room that pretty much goes unused after I got the Korg M50. Not feeling the need to go back really but having some of the pads and motion stuff for gadget could be nice. Perhaps after hearing more of what programs it retains from triton. The triton had five effects available per program as well as master ex and would also imagine this is more of a single insert thing from Glasgow perhaps?
Just not changing my user name to M50man is all I know for sure even though it is one hell of a lot more workstation.

  • I've got an Korg Triton Extreme at home, and, that sounds great overall!

The IAP for Module is not that good...

But, it's OK for guys who collect sounds from the past... But, it would have been an real GUI for Triton in Module, with more options around the sound...

I glad that I supported Korg Inc. with some money, they deserve it, we like Korg!

    @thesoundtestroom yes please

  • I also have a hardware Triton LE and was really looking for a patch list so I could compare and see if Module was worth it. Couldn't find one so I just bit the bullet and bought both Module and Triton expansion. Not a steal at $30 but overall worth it to add better "bread and butter" sounds to Gadget.

The Triton IAP does fill a void in Gadget by providing some of the newer, more complex, PCM/workstation sounds not included in Gadgets like Darwin, Kiev, or Marseille, but to call it a "best of" is very misleading. When I think of a "best of Triton" the first thing that comes to mind are the signature patches used on 2000-era pop, rap, and r&b songs...basically all those Neptunes/Scott Storch/Timbaland productions where they used straight presets. After running through the Module quickly I only caught 2 or 3 of those sounds and Korg completely left out all the drums and percussion which are just as desirable. Those combined are THE sound of 2000-era Top-40/club pop like over-compressed 808s are the current sound.

I would call the Module expansion more of "a taste of Triton". Hopefully Korg will add more Triton sounds especially since the original hardware Triton ROM was only 32mb anyways.

Are the sounds all from single programs or did they include combi's is as well?

  • 10 bucks for 100 fairly eh, so so presets does not seem that good it seems. Going to pass but nice if someone just needs a little fix perhaps, who can say.
