I haven't actually tried that, will do later when I get out of work. I have only done "Open in..." from AudioShare to LP-5 with single files. Also, as I just had to test, I rendered clips from Modrum and Bassline directly to LP-5 really simply/easily, which is nice for sketching things out though admittedly neither of Modrum or Bassline are on my Top10 list of apps so I don't use them that much (previously at least).
No, I have no such plans! A clip launcher in the form of an Audio Unit extension would be a great combo with AUM, though.
Sorry for the misinformation
I had to ask the ModStep guys on their FB page. This is the reply back:
"...As for audioshare import: this will be definitely in the upcoming update And the next beta will be started quite soon..."
"Soon" is of course not a time commitment per se, but it is good enough for now, for me, and definitely worth waiting for, good to see it is coming.
As this still is the most relevant thread for my next question I figured I'll plonk it here. Feel free to move it if it should live elsewhere or if I should create a new thread, but anyways:
What is the best, or most clever, way to control LP-5 from ModStep?
LP-5 takes "midi Note On" messages to change scenes. If it receives the note C2 it will start playing Scene1 on the next Link-bar-revolution, if it receives the note C#2 it will start playing Scene2 on the next Link-bar-revolution.
This also means a couple of things:
If I have loops and audio clips in LP-5 that are longer than 1 bar, I need to set the corresponding clip in ModStep to the same length, otherwise it will trigger and re-trigger the Scene in LP-5 before it has reached the end.
However, it does get worse: if the loops/audio in LP-5 are for example 8 bars long, I then need to create the corresponding midi clip in ModStep 8 bars, right? But if I send the midi Note On as the first note in that clip, it will have to play a full 8 bars before it actually can react to my command. If I have a shorter midi clip sending my Note On it will trigger and re-trigger LP-5 before it has played the full bar-revolution.
Consequently, if I send the midi Note On as the last note of a clip I have to set the correct/corresponding note in the previous clip in ModStep, which could be difficult to predict, especially in a live situation, right?
It therefore feels like I am missing something. A logical hurdle I haven't jumped. Something I don't see, which quite likely is obvious to you.
Someone? Anyone?
The speed thing in ModStep may be your friend here, create a 1 bar part in the piano roll in Modstep, select the speed and set to half, you do this by selecting the speed button and the speed you want then click the bar you want (just under the tools buttons) to play at that speed (the x1 that is normally displayed in the bar will change to the speed you selected).
Once done if you use 1/2 speed that 1 bar will take 2 bars to play. if you use 1/4 1 bar will take 4 bars to play
