What's all this "Allihoopa" business about?

Anybody checked it out yet? How is it different from Propellerhead Discover? All I can say so far is I don't understand the name or like the name as much as "Discover". Maybe it means something in some language. I don't know. Here is what Propellerhead has to say about it:

  • It's Swedish for "Everyone".

  • Looks like they renamed Discover.

  • Looks like soundcloud to me

Ha! Thx. Thought it might be a Swedish word. Now we need to see what all the hoopla is about the much-ballyhooed Allihoopa.

  • Shame when they updated it to Allihooper, they could of added link & maybe some more sounds too?

True. The artist pages definitely do.

    I'm all for replacing SoundCloud.

  • The name reminds me of when circus clowns do rollovers and shout "alley hop" :))

Acc. to the link I posted above, they say "We don’t aspire to be a music distribution network" and stress that they are more about collaboration and a peak into the creative process. That doesn't sound like Soundcloud.

They also talk about "tearing down ... barriers... to let people express themselves". Discover was never like that. It was a closed system that required Propellerhead products. Unless that has changed, the name "allihopa" (apparently the Swedish pronoun for "everyone" has only one O), if the name is supposed to me "everyone," it seems a misnomer if it is really only open to collaboration using exclusively Propellerhead products.

Actually, I believe that circus cry to which you refer is actually "alley oop." (Also a term used by basketball players. They believe it may have originated with the French "allez-oop" which means to go up.) It is said by circus acrobats right before doing a leap. Also was something Gomez Adams used to say on The Adams Family. :)

It reminded me of Ali Baba. :-)

Disappointed with this, considering their involvement in a previous Propellerheads discussion. This is definitely A wasted opportunity. Someone there has to be thinking 'let's not add anything the users want'

Before you use this, make absolutely certain that you INTEND for the work you are uploading to be placed into the Public Domain, as that is exactly what this license amounts to.

    https://allihoopa.com/tos

    SERVICES – LICENSE

3.1 You retain all of your ownership rights in the Content that you create or upload to the Services. However, by uploading Content you grant every user and Allihoopa a non-exclusive right to use your music (with the right to sublicense). The license includes a right to copy, reproduce, communicate to the public, distribute, prepare derivative works of, modify and adapt your Content – even for commercial purposes – in any and all media and distribution methods and to the extent permitted by the Terms of Service. The license applies worldwide and is royalty-free and irrevocable.
Because we offer an open music sharing service, we ask for broad rights, so we can publish files on the Internet, and so others can freely use the stuff that is posted. In kind, you’ll be able to use everything you find on the service.
Know that even though you are granting broad rights to all, you always maintain ownership of your stuff.
We don’t intend to sell your content. Other people on the service might end up doing something successful with content they find and even make money from it (and so could you for that matter).
3.2 You understand that the Content uploaded by you may be used freely by other users, as well as included in the music, songs and Content of other users – even for commercial releases. You also understand that your uploaded music may be modified by other users of the Services without your prior approval.
3.3 The license to Allihoopa includes a right to use the Content to perform the Services and in marketing of the Services or Allihoopa. Allihoopa has the right to assign and sublicense the license.
We want to be able to highlight cool stuff we find.
Note: there’s a way for you to set your content to “unlisted” (in the Music section of your account). Your unlisted content won’t be discoverable by others, and we won’t highlight it. Unlisted files have secret links on the Internet and theoretically could be viewed if someone happens to get the secret URL.
You can always delete files, but know that someone could have already downloaded them before you deleted them.
3.4 You agree to and warrant that the Content is created, owned or duly licensed by you and that Allihoopa does not need the permission or license from any third party to use the described rights. You may not upload Content that contain third party copyrighted material, or material that is subject to other third party proprietary rights, unless you have the permission from the rightful owner of the material.
3.5 By uploading Content you further – to the extent permitted by law – waive any moral rights that may be vested in you as creator.
3.6 Content that you have uploaded may be removed from the Services on your request. Please note that such removal has no retroactive effect and that your license still applies to use of Content started before such removal.
3.7 As a user of the Services, you are granted a license in accordance with section 3.1 from each other user who uploads Content. You understand that Allihoopa is thus not the licensor and does not warrant or is liable in connection with your use of the Content. The terms in these Terms of Service limiting Allihoopa’s liability also apply to your use of the Content.

  • From the blog: "And for Reason users – you can expect more Reason focus here at propellerheads.se in the future."

Seems like this is the most revealing thing here, that they merely wanted to give the social aspect it's own site.

Wish there was a setting to disable that header share bar in portrait mode - it looks like a banner ad and it's wasted real estate for me.

  • @u0421793 lol, that's what I was reminded of immediately, too when I read "Allihoopa" but I'm not Swedish, maybe I'm just another 'Din-ah-sou-er' if I can remember that song!?

  • I like where this is going. Sitting back and waiting. :)

Yeah, Not sure why there needs to be a whole banner across the top for 2 little buttons in the corner.
It reduces the playing area across the entire interface.
    Dumb.
App got worse with this update. And I've already been using it a lot less since there is no way to bring up a list of presets. Scrolling left right was fine when it was released but at this point with the number of presets it is ridiculous. Just need a double tap or swipe down function to open a vertical selection list.
This is the first negative post I've left anywhere about figure. Used to be a favorite, but that is changing now.

  • Yer. Used to love this app, tons of fun, but all this social sharing crap have ruined it for me. Just want link and IAP soundpacks.

  • Nothing exciting about all this musical communism. Propellerheads need to spend more time working on Reason 9.

  • Other than the name change, is this really any different from Discover?

  • Right now it isnt. Its an independent platform on its own. Right now only Figure, Take and Reason can Drop to it but i do have a feeling that this will change soon.

  • glad I saw this thread before updating. Also, glad they actually mentioned what they did in the update instead of the usual uninformative bug-fixes and enhancements blurb.

  • Yeah, wish I hadn't. Ah well...back in the cupboard.

We'll see how long before I accidentally press the "update all" button.

  • I'm just glad my Thor still cuts out.............

    whuuu whueeeeaaaaaa

Well really it's not a big deal. I said that it is worse now because really nothing was added except the banner at top. But the banner is not a huge annoyance. You can now see a list of some uploadEd loops by people within the app. That could be a plus for some.

  • Least they could do is add audio copy. Literally, the LEAST. I thought maybe I'd throw some loops into the new GarageBand loop arranger, which is pretty sweet, but NEITHER have audio copy! I know i could record, but with audio copy you can be sure everything fits perfectly. Blah.

  • @db909 It has Audiocopy. On the browser page if you tap a song file there is a button that takes you to the export options. The button is to the left and opposite the delete button.

  • @Redo1 I get it. I just can't stand banner ads; on a screen this size I can't not be distracted by them. So, I guess that after 4 years and hundreds of figure tunes, if I update, it will probably be the end of figure for me. Too bad, really. If propellerheads had done things a little differently they would have made a lot of money off me-- buying reason and upgrades and all that over the years. Oh well.
