Truth. Writing good music will always be a challenge. It's funny, but the development of affordable technology for home production is huge for independent musicians, and with talent, a pro album can be put together in a family room. The real change has been the struggle to get signed to the struggle to get found. The democratization of music production means anyone can get out there, and that's both great and awful. Without the curation of a label people have to sift through the noise themselves. Probably one of the reasons soundcloud is suffering right now. The flip side is, just like netflix and amazon have been able to produce niche shows that don't appeal to a mass market, music is getting made and loved that would never have been greenlit 20 years ago.
It is true that the democratization has led to a lot of crap being released. But it will only get more accessible. This is a good thing because as it gets more accessible, songwriting abilities will be required to shine even brighter to stand out, over time cycling right back around to the good old days when you really had to have a knack for the craft. Everything in cycles.
Thank you!
It's super convenient to have gadget on an iPhone and as a major music app it could set the precedent for other app developers to work on universal/ iPhone support. That being said I don't think it's that good of an experience. Everything about its workflow it's much more convenient on an iPad, it's just easier to work with a big screen for this app I think the interface wasn't really 100% optimized for iPhone, in some places it's just the same as the iPad but like 10 times smaller.
What's it's really convenient for most people it's that now you can carrie this app in a device that you can take everywhere and barely adds extra weight or extra space. The iPad as portable as it is will never beat the iphone in that regard.
So in my opinion it's not that gadget on the iPhone it's an amazing app as the workflow on the iPad it's much better, it's not the ultimate app for iPhone. What people like it's that now you have it everywhere thanks to the conveniences the iphone brings regarding mobility.

hmm, not sure i understand your reasoning there ... so you're saying record labels dont release crap ?
@enc not at all. I'm just saying there's more volume all around. Labels have rarely offered much value to anyone but labels.
But at least it was curated to the point where it was complete music, generally well recorded and arranged. Don't have to sift through a teenager in their basement with a guitar and the mic on their iPad.
If I can keep the rug from being pulled out from underneath me and not have to buy a new device every time a revolutionary new app crossover occurs then I'd love to join the Gadget revolution, but it ain't happenin' now.
Dammit.
What iPad are you on? I'm still on a ipad4 - but Gadget runs great for me. Can usually get 14-15 tracks running at once.
Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely gesture on their part to implement the side loading from Module for iPad to Gadget on iPhone. It just boggles my mind that they had time to do that but couldn't make Module for iPhone work with Gadget, or ya know just make it one universal app in which case that sideloading routine would be unnecessary. The sideloading is better than nothing, but it's convoluted for the user, and I can't imagine writing that code was trivial. So why not just spend the time rolling it into one universal app. Regardless, didn't buy. If it becomes universal I'll reconsider, EVEN if it's not on sale! Especially if they roll all the IAP into one uber app that includes everything at one price. HATE IAP. Really just crossing my fingers about iM1 becoming universal
Perfect example. KORG just needs to make the add-on apps universal so the users can get on with it.
Plus if you read those instructions, it points out your IAP won't be transferred. So even if you did get Darwin on your phone, you still wouldn't have the card packs! That's why I didn't buy Module or iM1. Waiting to see if they can shake all this out.
Moral of the story to me, IAP are a red flag!
I should add, did get Gadget (and iDS-10) and delighted as well
My module/iM1 iaps where correctly transferred in my iPhone gadget! I have all the extra cards, soundpacks etc...
Oh, I understand. I don't have module, so I don't know about that. My im1 seems to have transferred correctly as well.
Everything but the organ and grand piano IAP in Module IS transferred.
Thanks for the field report, glad to hear the cards and soundpacks do get transferred More tempted than ever to get iM1 and do the sideload dance, heh. Someday I'll have that shiny new iPad, but the one I've got (iPad 3) will suffice for that.
Did the Module sideload take a long time? I imagine the iM1 sideload is no big deal, but Module is HUGE!
Do you have all the Module IAPs?
@Peter321 is indicating that organ and grand piano do NOT get transferred.
I have an iPhone 5. Which is the point of my complaint. Another apparently popular app is ported over to iPhone (finally, I thought) without the bother of informing anybody early on that 'iPhone' doesn't mean 'iPhone'. It means 'iPhone 6' in this case, which is the sort of detail that I prefer not be left out, for future reference.
Dammit.
I think it's the 64 bit factor that makes it not work, isn't 5s the first phone that was 64 bit? My understanding is that's why older devices are being phased out. But there is always the benefit (to Apple) that you have to buy a new device....
@srcer Module took a while to transfer, iM1 not so much and yes, it's been confirmed that the Organ and Grand Piano IAP's do not transfer.
KORG wites on their forum that they "currently" do not transfer, so maybe they plan on allowing that in the future, who knows?
@mrufino1 I have no wherewithal at this time to spend $ on another something that I already have a working one of, and certainly not for Gadget. Hence I've had no reason to shop for the particulars.
I totally agree, I didn't mean I was excited to buy new devices. I have a 6s because my 4s was starting to fail, but no intention of buying a new iPad anytime soon, my air 1 is doing more than I need.
If they want it to be a game changer Korg should include 3D touch support for velocity and aftertouch!
I'm less than year out from being able to move up to another iPhone, but I'm wondering if when I do I'm going to be behind the curve (again) OR get the option to move up to better and run into new iOS Issues. Weeee...
Probably not. It's a bit like having a bath in a teacup.
