Double plus good.
Hi theconnatic. I don't play Bandoneon so I never looked into making an app for it. The rest of the accordions and concertinas I do play.
I just updated the app links on the original post to be more geo-friendly... At least, I think they are. If anyone has trouble with them, please let me know and I'll try something else.
Bought them (the audio ones). Let's add some celt spice to my Brazilian melodies.
Thanks Nathan and theconnactic!
Please post some reviews if you are inspired to do so. So many of the apps have so few reviews and zero of course since the Audiobus/IAA upgrades.
Thank you Michael for your updates. I asked you via email a few weeks ago and you very graciously replied with the response of "maybe at some point in the future" or something like that. I am super glad to see that the future is here.
I do think there might be one workflow issue - I can't quite find the ability to run Bagpipe Pro in the background. This makes switching apps with Audiobus sometimes problematic, so when I switch to another app (the destination app or the effects app) the sounds from BPP stops. So I have to set everything up to run in the background, then run BPP in the foreground. When I switch back to BPP it restarts everything as the app comes back into the foreground. Not a big deal, just a workflow folks need to be aware of.
I have Bagpipes Pro and as a former piper I can tell anyone else reading that this sounds pretty darn good, minus the ear splitting volume of course, and the fingerings are darn close enough. You can even get a pretty good sounding D-throw and Taorluath if you are into that sort of thing, it is that responsive... at least as good as the e-chanters out there, though getting used to holding an ipad is a bit difficult compared to a chanter!
Thanks again!
In the past I have recorded the sample output from the apps using Audioshare and put some of the sounds into Thumbjam (and Samplr). Since Fugue Machine works with Thumbjam I have been able to get some pretty rockin' tunes going. And then with Samplr I've even mixed the bagpipe sounds with a detuned (to B flat) Didgeridoo drone sound. The sounds were pretty awesome, even if the playing (me) wasn't so great!
Nice!
I'd love to put up a dedicated page with videos of what people are doing with the new apps and Audiobus/IAA,.
Just send along a link to the videos, a description, and any links you'd like back to your own website if you like.
fprintf, all of the apps stop all the notes currently playing when going to the background by design. I truly hadn't considered that someone might want the drones going while not in the foreground. Is that the scenario you are talking about?
Since they are only a source, and can't be controlled by MIDI, I imagined someone generally playing the apps while in the foreground. I don't think there's any technical reason that I couldn't keep the drones going in the background in a future update, just hadn't considered it.
This is the first time any of my apps have dealt with background operation, so there may be some simple tweaks that have to be made in the future to get them behaving optimally for the sorts of scenarios I hadn't visualized.
I'll leave reviews for all the audio ones as soon as I can. Splendid apps!
Thank you High5denied!
I tried to use them just to find out how unfamiliar I am with these kind of instruments. In Uileann, for example, shouldn't each hole give me a different note instead of the key root and some microtonal variations? I better control them using another app while I educate myself about these instruments.
Hi Michael @Seisiuneer are you aware of a bug in the latest version of midiflute (not the Pro) where the high D (all fingers on except the top finger) will not play the note clearly or plays the wrong note, I have tried many synths but the result is always the same. this behaviour only arrived with the 3.2.1 update. I was in the process of leaving a 5 star review on the appstore and decided to have a play before I did only to discover it is not operating correctly for me.
I am very keen to purchase the pro version and will do so just as soon as I can purchase an itunes card, I look forward to see and hear what it has to offer. Cheers.
Hi BanjoFran!
I just tried that fingering with three different MIDI synth apps and I'm not seeing any issue at all. Is the fingering you are using from the top of the flute app:
XOO OOO
That would normally be a B if the flute is pitched up the default of D.
Can you provide any other info that might help me recreate what you're seeing because it's working perfectly for me.
The MIDI Pro version just uses the same split instrument setup as my Uilleann full set app, but otherwise is essentially the same.
Michael
Michael, Strange behaviour I tried once again after your reply and the the first synth I used was Soundprism link on the preset "Everything needs an end" midiflute set to channel 3 and it sounds and plays beautifully, I then went into Sunrizer and played "Gothpool Delayed" by Aural Imbalance reset to channel 1 as I have done many times and the note tries to play but loses tuning.
In answer to your question No not B but high D OXX XXX (only hole 6 left open) I have played Tin whistle for 44 years so I know what to expect to hear. I will experiment some more and maybe load an earlier version of midiflute if I still have one pre version 1.2.3
Gothpool Delayed was always rock solid for me. I like how it sounds a bit like electronic pipes, I also had the same problem as I recall with a few of the Synthmaster presets
So, at this point do you still think MIDIFlute is the culprit? I'll do some more sanity testing over the weekend comparing the source of this version with the last to make sure I didn't accidentally break something.
Michael, I am sorry to say but as far as I can tell something changed for the worse with the last update, I have rolled back to version 3.1.1 and I am once again happily using the app I know and love.
OK, let me see if I can see what might have changed over the weekend and update the app if required.
Welcome to Buslandia @Seisiuneer. Congrats on the new releases.
Banjofran and I will continue to converse offline about the MIDI issue he's seeing, I'd like to keep this thread on the new Audiobus features.
*** UPDATE 3/5 ***: I found the problem, a simple one line fix for one specific note fingering mapping. I have as promised submitted updates to Apple for all seven flute and whistle apps, including the MIDI variants.
Wow, Michael, that's superb! You've just won the Most Responsive Dev of the Year award! Can't wait till this goes live....
Ha! The flutes, whistles, and bagpipes (plus a concertina) are all live, the issue I fixed is specific to the mapping of one particular note fingering. Just makes the flute and whistle apps even closer to the real thing. Looking forward to the four Hohner accordions getting approved any day now!
I guess not everyone is familiar with how Scottish Bagpipes chanters work, here's a simple tutorial showing the basic scale on a practice chanter:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=Ymxz6ve5SZ0
Of course, on an iPad, you can't lay your fingers flat like he does on the video, you have to use your fingertips, but otherwise the scale fingerings are the same as the real chanter.
The hole he describes on the back of the chanter (covered by the left thumb on the real chanter) corresponds to the "Thumb" bar on the Bagpipes Pro app, also handled by the left thumb:
sweet, that will be helpful for me! thanks
Since things seem to be going well with these first round of updates, I've gone ahead and submitted an update to the Dusty Strings D550 Hammered Dulcimer iPad app to add Audiobus and IAA support, will let you know when it's approved by Apple. Currently on sale for $0.99 just to get some more units in the field, was $4.99 yesterday and will go back up when Apple approves the update.

Updated! still .99 cent-a-roo's too.
Got it, can't wait to play around with it.
Well, this Trapezoid H.D. is really good. Sounds great and is easy to play. Haven't tried the IAA or AB yet.
I'm buying these apps just because the developer does Sanity Testing! I'm sure his apps will score better than I do.
Hey, I just updated a bunch of my Hohner Accordion iPad apps to now work with Audiobus, check out the other thread on them if you are interested. I've been doing all the accordion apps for Hohner since 2009. Most of the samples used in these apps are also available for ThumbJam as free instrument downloads, I gave them all to Jesse so people could have something to play with my MIDI accordion controller apps. Did I mention how much I love ThumbJam as a synth? :-)
You and Jesse and well the Audioshare guy Johnathan, and Rim, and Sebastian......Oh......Too many to name.
You all do good, these updates make me happy! All warm and fuzzy like...........
