After working on these standalone apps for nearly 6 years, to finally let them out of their little silos using Audiobus and IAA is both exhilarating and terrifying.

I just hope I got it right, or at least right enough. So far, other than a few little future ideas, it seems like they are working pretty well in the field. Haven't been getting a bunch of angry customer support emails, so I'm glad. This isn't my full time gig, but a rather serious hobby/obsession. :-)

It's like I sent my children (well, I only have two cats and a donkey) off to college. :-)

  • I've added my UilleannKeys app to the Audiobus/IAA family, now available on the iTunes App Store:

    https://geo.itunes.apple.com/us/app/uilleannkeys-traditional-irish/id430216278?mt=8

    Website:

It also adds the pitch bend feature requested by Vorgon earlier in the thread.

oh boy, oh boy, I can't wait to get home now!

    Thanks Michael. Top work!

  • Earlier in the thread, Banjofran mentioned an issue with the fingering on my MIDIFlute app.

The new version of MIDIFlute is out that fixes the octave D 0XX XXX fingering issue.

Please grab the update from the iTunes App Store if you have this app.

Apple is slowly working their way through reviewing the rest of the flutes and whistles with the fix, but this one got approved first.

  • I can't praise the sound of Uileann keys enough - and the size of the keys precludes the need for midi control.

I've so often bought synths with very few sounds on them that I like ( and as a non- tweaker, that leaves me rather stranded)

The one sound on this app is just the most beautifully expressive instrument I know and I get the same sort of thrill from using it as I get from Geo shred.

If mystic is your thing, or if you want to communicate the concept of YEARNING without having to use the word in a lyric, I simply cannot recommend this app enough.

  • I just found these this morning, a bunch of videos by "Total War Piper" using the "Bagpipes Pro" app (previously "World of Bagpipes"). Great stuff:

Pretty darn good. Are those crossing noises that the app does or just the way he plays the tunes? I've been curious about the presence of crossing noises since that has to be somewhat difficult to emulate - though detecting it should be easy, all fingers over holes at the same time! (I am sure it is more difficult than I typed)

I don't know. Probably a combination of both.

Definitely the best examples of an actual piper playing the apps I've heard since I started doing these Bagpipes apps!

I'd say most people, hearing these recordings, unless they were an experienced Scottish bagpiper, would not guess they were an iPad and not the real instrument being played. Certainly sounds way better than most of the hardware practice chanters. That's pretty cool.

Updates out today for all my Irish Flute and Tin Whistle apps (and MIDIFlute variants) slightly modifying the fingering maps as per the earlier side discussion with Banjofran. So glad he caught the issue, which most people probably wouldn't have noticed, but having fixed makes the apps much more consistent with the real instruments in the fingerings of two notes.

There's also an update to "Bagpipes Pro" renaming it back to "World of Bagpipes Pro" after finding all those great demo videos that referred to it by the old name.

  • Since everyone should have a set of bagpipes for St. Patrick's Day, my "World of Bagpipes Pro" iPad app will be on sale for only $0.99 tomorrow, Wednesday Mar 16, (so you can practice) and on St. Patrick's Day! Back to $4.99 on the 18th.

I bought it yesterday and not worried about missing a sale...it sounds so good, I'm happy (athough I do like sales). I've wanted AudioBus compatible bagpipes since...well, since AudioBus debuted so it's nice to finally have my wish.

As usual "be careful what you wish for" is in effect...now I have to learn to play this as best I can, and for me that might take quite some time. And after that are the flutes...and other goodies.

Ha ha, Toz, I have wished the same thing! And now, it is a reality. And, I need to learn too. Maybe a couple glasses of wine would help.......
