What Kind of Sounds Would You Like To Hear From an App Called SHOOM?

  • Like nitrous oxide.

  • Hmmm......perhaps an xy performance pad where you can assign multiple parameters to each axis and adjust minimum and max values of each. That would allow for maximum shoom shoom gymnastics.

  • HMMM.... The sound of a berimbau would be quite cool.

shoom was a late 80's club spawned from the acid house scene .... so im saying squelchy 303 bass type tones

    This...

  • In many Eastern European languages, shoom means noise

  • "Go away, I'm trying to meditate!"
    A hybrid annoying-noises/ambience-for-meditation app.
Of course, we already have many options for this.

  • Exactly like Dr OM but on the Bus...

    Fast synth sweeps
    Elevator doors closing
    Truck passing on the highway
    Fast sink drainage
The sizzling sound sausages make when first placed into a hot pan
Shining a pair of shoes with a soft cloth
A tennis ball flying through the air
Roadrunner disappearing in a cloud of dust

    He said shrooms?

    Co-signing that

The fantabulous Music of Dentistry, the drill, the bit, teeth pulverised, not to mention the spit sucker.....but of all, my favourite, that subtle nuanced sound cotton wool makes when placed between gums and teeth.

I seem to recall Autechre based an album on sounds recorded in a dentists office.

Reminded me of the following episode from Sound of Noise:

    When I think of Shoom:

Orcs at the gates of helms deep thumping and growling en mass as it echoes through the caves where the women and children are hidden, while simultaneously playing in reverse echo in the valley where the orcs are.

Superman speed tying his shoes while eating his toast as he zips out the door with a slam.

The sound of an overly cushioned skyscraper falling into a field of flowers and moss.

A microphone drop at a punk concert which happens to feedback into the bassists amplifier which then short circuits, blows up in a "phapf" then rapidly takes out the main circuit beaker to the gymnasium/building leaving the punkshow attendees to murmuring and cursing.

The sonic translation cuttlefish bioluminescence displays.

  • Like this, only for sounds. Story machine. Various transitions.

    Acieeed!

  • OT: but on the subject of dentistry - here's a track I did in Caustic a while back. (I know I've shared it before, but, hey - topical  )

Inspired by a visit to the dentist where I had time to explore Caustic on the iPhone in depth for the first time. Used the following patches: Pad Tense, Lead Grating, Simple Ahs, Gurgle, Smooth Saw, Shrill Drone, Scrape, Spackle, Garbled and Hotel Caledonia (because Hotel California was playing on the radio at the dentist at the time :-) )

What was that about shrooms @JohnnyGoodyear ?

    Your narrative

    Fast synth sweeps
    Elevator doors closing
    Truck passing on the highway
    Fast sink drainage
The sizzling sound sausages make when first placed into a hot pan
Shining a pair of shoes with a soft cloth
A tennis ball flying through the air
Roadrunner disappearing in a cloud of dust

when understood sequentially left me a little psychedelic is all :)

  • The many rich and varied flavours of silence.

  • Reverberations of movement of any object against an intentional drag

  • Missed this obvious one before but what about the doors to the bridge on the Enterprise

  • Gives a whole new meaning to the term Enterprise Server @AndyPlankton

I thought that was whoever gave Kirk and Picard their sandwiches :D

Using adjectives only (but as many as you like) ... What kind of patches would you expect or want? Clue: Think Dr OM experimenting on Ondes with a theremin.

Kind of an informal survey as I prepare for a new sound design odyssey

Is this the same app that you were referring to?

Yep. I also concocted and submitted 20 presets for the developer based specifically on the responses to this thread - not sure how many, if any, will make the final cut, but hopefully a few make their way in. I'm hoping to feature a few in a song in the near future, time permitting ...

Thanks again to everyone who offered suggestions :star:

Based on how great Xynthesizr is, this new app is an instabuy for me. Glad to hear you had a part in it. Looking forward to the release.
