Thanks Captain. The Drum God (you, in this instance ) giveth etc. On one hand I'm bemoaning the banjaxing of DM1 while on the other I am recording-without-boffinery straight from DJ into Gadget. Brilliant stuff.
Very cool. I haven't actually tried recording the midi from DJ into Gadget yet.
My tip would be to use DJs 808 kit (9 pads I believe) and set DJ to midi out (and turn down the DJ audio). Then you can have most of a Gadget kit in London/Bilbao/Abu mapped from the DJ pads.
(Unfortunately DJ uses slightly different pad mapping to Gadget).
Set DJ to quantise hits, and set the random double hit thing to taste.
Make sure both Gadget and DJ are linked and then viola.
Using the 'Em Axle' set. Pretty good. Stumbling around a little, but who cares because you can kill any darlings that aren't beautiful....
Yep, any of the electro kits will work well - because they have lots of pads, mostly mapped to Gadget's drum pad notes.
Also, be sure to see if turning off GM bindings in the DJ midi config helps you play gadget's kit.... it might help (or not).
Way to cover your considerable bases there Captain
Can't wait to finish work!
I rubbed this out while playing around with Dj's 3D touch + Tj
It's thumbjam abandoned? I seem to be waiting for an update that's always supposed to come but never does. (Really I have read the developer comments about it and there's always an upcoming update to thumbjam that never materialize)
It's coming, basically the counterpart to this DrumJam update. And yes, I know how delayed these updates get, sorry!
Thanks Jesse for all your hard work!! This is the Link update I've been waiting for!
that's good to hear, thanks. Although there is already MIDI output. So today I finally decided to buy DrumJam.
Would be great to have some IAP. I owe you some bucks for this wonderful app.
I mean it's the best value i got for an payed iOS app.
I bought it for a Happy Meal price years ago and it still get updated, it works and is in the hall of fame of iOS apps.
I would like to pay you for a ThumbJam 3.0 as well!
Damn, without TJ i don't had started to create music (maybe years later....which could be too late).
Thank you!
Very nice. I'm not doing nearly enough with the good stuff I get for so little. These apps are so good, they demand some time to be spent with them.
Thanks for the update! lots of Funjam.
Quick question, does Drumjam send out any CCs? I am mapping DJ pad output to some hardware.
many thanks
I agree! I wouldn't mind paying for a ThumbJam 3.0 either--just, please get the sampling updates done!
Great, also wouldn't mind paying for new functions as IAP, hope this time it's really soon.
It does not currently send out CCs, it only receives them. That should probably be remedied!
More app devs should adopt the "Tip Jar" in-app. My favorite podcast app, Downcast, did this recently and I immediately donated full purchase price in appreciation of all the hard work I have benefitted from but been unable to contribute toward. I was notified the first time I launched the app after the update that included it, with a button that took me right to the page. Genius, imo.
Love the idea of the Tip Jar!
Yup. Have to be honest and say I wouldn't be using it all the time, but I can think of a number of indie devs whose efforts I would like to encourage beyond the initial purchase price...
I think Overcast does it one better. It uses a "Patron" method which is NOT a subscription, but is more like Ardour's method where you pay for a period of time (of updates). You still keep the software you have--it never expires, but you only get the updates during the time that you pay. You can choose 3 months, 6 months , 9 months, a year, etc. When the "Patron" time expires, you don't get any more new features until you pay again.
^that!
Congrats on the release!
I really like that it has link and IAA start, it is one of the best app to use in AUM, and with thumbjam ...
Excellent DrumJam update.
And +1 on the Tip Jar idea.
A question I often ask myself is "how much would I pay to keep this app alive?" (i.e.: developer supported)
I would happily pay for Rock Drum Jam or Drum Kit Jam. Basically the same as DrumJam, but set up for a drum kit playing Rock/Country/Funk/Blues/etc.
TJ was my entry back into music as well. Would love to buy some rock IAPs for DrumJam.
More electro kits or 'real sounds' kits to buy would be great please .
But it's a great update.
@sonosaurus
I found that there is unfortunately a slight lag playing midi hits into Gadget though vs playing DrumJam samples in time to Gadget (which is perfect). I'm going to investigate if there is some midi lag setting in DJ.
Nope - but seems like best solution is to just turn on quantise in Gadget - and that sorts it once the midi is printed.
@JohnnyGoodyear - in other news - the electro kit 'EM Tesseract is THE kit to use for midi out to Gadget because (with GM mapping switched off) it maps perfectly to all 8 pads of London. Very nice.
