Good sitar samples or synthesis?

I gave up real sitar after a week because all the shredding was happening to my fingertips.

Oh yeah. It's like running your fingertip across a cheese slicer, repeatedly. And then there are the leg cramps, and the pinch on your RH index finger from the pick. But you were just getting started. It takes at least a couple weeks before you develop the calluses. Things are going to hurt for several months probably. That's the price we pay for that amazing sound.

  • To get that Indian sound, having a tanpura drone and idiomatic playing technique are more important than the patch itself. See some of the Indian guys on YT for examples. They're not using sitar patches for the most past and yet they still get the Indian sound. Two other things you can do:

    1) Use a lot of slides as ornaments to your main melody notes.
    2) Set your Geoshred patch to just intonation. Many ragas have additional intonation offsets on certain notes, but offset from JI, not ET. Just going to JI against a tanpura drone will get you a lot closer to the Indian sound.

I'm looking to get a sitar sound for a song I'm working on. Ideally, some decent samples would work best but I'll settle for some decent synthesis if it comes to it... Suggestions?

    Geoshred

Import to Thumbjam and play them.

    BeatHawk iaps?

  • I just picked up SwarPlug and the Tamboura IAP. Already got a jam going with Rozeta - so great.

Is there a way to start/stop a SwarPlug loop with the transport controls in AUM?

Yes, my teacher wasn't impressed; his response to my bleeding fingers was "Eh, you just let it scab over. Then you play with the scabs."
