Modsteps audio recorder needs to be fixed as well as far as I can tell, it seems to cut off the initial transient of the recording and place it at the end which indicates to me it isn't syncing properly like it's coming in a millisecond late. This is using Ableton link compatible apps.
Right now for audio the best option I find is group the loop, once it has Ableton link support which I think is coming in the next update it will truly be the "next level" way to compose on iOS.
It really amazes me that after all this time so many people just want an intuitive system to combine midi and audio from different apps and build it into songs and every developer keeps coming up just short of this goal.
Ahh, I was wondering how the AUM workflow was for queuing up recordings.
I must admit I didn't gell with modstep at first. But for some reason I kept going back, normally when a new beta was released. It kept getting better and at some point it just clicked. Getting your head around the modulation system is quite a task, but now I find it super easy.
So true!
One persons intuitive is another's confusing.
Turns out that intuitive doesn't even mean what I thought it did.
intuitive(adj)
spontaneously derived from or prompted by a natural tendency
Antonyms:
logical, induced
Synonyms:
visceral, nonrational
So what I want is a logical system to combine etc....
The recording seems to work fine for me with IAA but I have not tried it with link.
Think that exists in the form of Auria, Cubasis, MTS, etc. Modstep is a different beast entirely.
That's where the word intuitive is key. The problem with the apps you mentioned is they aim to emulate desktop working environments that don't translate as well to iOS as something built specifically with iOS workflow in mind, because those daws were designed to make the most efficient use of a keyboard and mouse workflow. It's much easier to just port existing desktop designs over to iOS than it is to come up with new ways of thinking about touch interface workflows, which we've seen more and more of as iOS has matured as music making platform.
They're good apps, I've used them but they don't have the kind of workflow that solves the problem of intuitively linking audio and midi from various apps in a way that just lets you build up song arrangements quickly and easily. If modstep handled audio better I think it would be that app.
Or if Gadget had midi out and audio tracks
Yes, this as well.
So when is this update coming !?!?
