Control Auria Pro with Korg NanoKontrol2 video tutorial
Just uploaded a video on YouTube explaining how to control Auria Pro transport and mixer section with a Korg NanoKontrol2. Full control over sliders, pan, mute and solo on every track. Full control of play, stop and rewind.
I'd heard that this might be possible but hadn't seen any evidence. Please forgive my terrible video presentation.

This is awesome. I did not know this was possible.
Me neither. A control surface for Auria for £35.
Track shift also works. And solo/mute/record button illumination. Uses Mackie HUI mode.
I wonder if it's possible to link 2 NanoKontrol's together for full 16 track control without the need to use the 'Track' buttons. Or maybe 3 for 24 tracks. Got to be worth a try at just £35 per unit.
Sort of on topic: does the AKAI MPK 49 have a setting that will work with Auria?
Don't own the Akai I'm afraid. If it has Mackie HUI it's possible.
Just noticed: the latest Gadget update has a button to enable native nanoKONTROL mode". Whatever that means. Wil try it out later tonight.
It appears to be for NanoKontrol Studio.
Pardon my ignorance, but does track shift allow you to move control to the next bank of 8 faders? Is doing this as simple as hitting an up/down button on the NanoKontrol, kind of like octave shifts on a small keyboard controller?
@AndyE - thanks for the vid! Can it also be (easily) assigned to the subgroup and master faders as well?
@eustressor - yes, precisely. Lack of visual feedback can be an issue though, with only the three LEDs. You have to change one - or the fader - while watching the screen to see where it thinks it is.
Moving to the next 8 tracks is as simple as hitting the track button up/down. I will do another test later to check sub groups and master fader.
Eustressor. Lack of visual feedback in Auria isn't a problem for me at all. All controls on NanoKontrol correspond to all controls in Auria. So moving anything moves exactly what is expected in Auria. If I want to mute track 5 for instance, I simply press mute on channel 5 on NanoKontrol. All good.
If I need a quick visual check to make sure I'm moving the correct fader, I just quickly toggle the track's solo on and off...
I'm tempted to pick up a second unit to have 16 channels for full-on 'start at zero' dedicated mixing sessions. Come to think of it, my USB adaptor does have three ports available...![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Do it Tovokas...Do it.
The only possible problem I can see is if you would be able to choose tracks 1-8 on one unit and tracks 9-16 on the second unit. Toggling the track button may move your track selection on both units, if you follow me. Auria may not accept two different commands. First person to buy two units wins a gold star!!!
Shortly after I posted I began wondering the same thing Andy: it definitely works on the desktop, but whether Auria would play along is a mystery... For now.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I'm ordering another one now. Will keep you posted tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
@AndyE, Smashing this works for me too !
Strange that the thing has never worked with Gadget, mind.
Thank you both for the feedback - I'll be interested to hear how the two-gun setup goes![:sunglasses: :sunglasses:](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/sunglasses.png)
Will post another video Wednesday or Thursday with update regarding linking 2 NanoKontrol2 together to control 16 tracks in Auria Pro.
Hi eustressor. Ran a couple of tests this evening and can confirm that the NanoKontrol2 also works with subgroups and master fader using the track shift button. Record enable for each track is also good.
Cool video, thanks @AndyE !
My pleasure. So many people on this forum have given me help and advice since joining. I'm hopefully giving something back.
@Tovokas I'm curious, what USB adaptor do you have?
I just picked up the cheapy one listed in the Audiobus Recommendations list: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GSNHWJ0/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00GSNHWJ0&linkCode=as2&tag=audiobus-20&linkId=QUJ7FBSZ4RDN3D3W
Seems to be working well for $10. (It can handle one device unpowered, and my NanoKontrol2, iRig Keys, and MPKMini all at once when powered).
And thanks @AndyE for testing it out for us!
AndyE, do you have MIDI designer Pro? I'm Curious if you could log the Mackie MIDI data from the Nanokontrol 2. I'd like to make a MDPro layout that controls Auria
My tests linking 2 Nanokontrol2's to control 16 tracks in Auria Pro were unfortunately unsuccessful. They just wouldn't play ball. I could only get both units to control tracks 1-8 or 9-16 etc. I could not get one unit to control tracks 1-8 and the other unit to control tracks 9-16. I tried everything I could think of. Even tried setting each unit to different midi channels via the Korg Kontrol Editor (their spelling not mine). Changed CC's and button functionality. At times, the core midi settings page within Auria was showing vast amounts of instances of Nanokontol (up to 32) but would not allow me to select most of them. It seemed very unhappy and confused. Before too long, I felt the same. The dream is over.
LOL, brother Andy the dream isn't over. The developer of Auria, Rim (who I believe he goes by the company's name WaveMachine Labs on this forum) is excellent when it comes to helping the userbase.
He may be able to think of a workaround he can put into the next update or perhaps he might know of what might work in the current version to get both units operating separate track banks. The Auria forum is a good spot to get info on this too.
Either way your help & insight into the Nanokontrol2's ability to add control to Auria at an extremely decent price has been extremely helpful man...I'm probably not the only one here rubbing the chin on this one, deciding if getting a Nanokontrol2 is in our future...be cool.
Bummer... So sorry you've taken one for the team. I agree with JRSIV that there is hope for the future. (And I hope as well you have a desktop setup that will welcome the 2nd unit).
@Hmtx - this guy did a pretty good job reverse engieering the proocol:

An MDP controller would ba a nice thing to have. There are several Apps that do this but al the ones I looked at only support external connections to the DAW, none supported Virtual MIDI, for instance. But, if you have a second iOad fr one of them, nice to get VU meters as well.
