I'm on the road right now traveling, so I bored-ly picked up Modstep last night in my hotel room. After the first half hour of staring at the screen wondering why it wasn't sequencing anything, I got the hang of it. I haven't dug deep yet by messing with MIDI CCs or anything, but as it appears right now, it's exactly what I've been looking for from a sequencer in iOS.
Can't wait to get home and sequence some of my hardware.
I think, to be honest, that is where it would really excel - sequencing both hardware and software (iOS or VST) in perfect unison - with nice touch-screen flow.
I don't own any noise making hardware, but it almost makes me tempted to buy a volca keys or something...
Same here, the only thing holding me back is the fact that I'll need more power sockets and a mixer to merge the external and internal sound sources.
Mod step is not as hard to use as some people think, when you get used to it the things that are initially confusing actually make perfect sense.
If you are into sequencing and clip launching with either software or hardware sound sources then you are missing out big time if you are not using Modstep
If you're basically a beginer in sequencing, you think it still over the top for a noob?
I am exactly at the same point. I almost bought it just now. The addition of individual channels to gadget makes it very enticing.
Plus I love the developer. And it will only cost me $16, because I have an 80% discount card
I think you just talked yourself into it .
If you have two iPads then I'd definitely recommend it. Gadget on one and ModStep on the other (midi over Bluetooth) is great fun.
Gadget on iPhone.
Either that, or forcibly remove the iPad from my 7 year old.
Oh year - Gadget on iPhone - of course. That'd be very cool.
We desperately need intro videos for this app. Something for noobs like me. Me being a more realtime play and record kind of musician wonder if it will join the list of not used apps but I do want to learn sequencing.
I just started using soon for the first time, because of gadget for iPhone.
I'm used to Ableton Live on my computer, so the overall layout was familiar for me. I understood the concept of tracks, clips, scenes, etc. without looking at the manual. Getting to the piano roll and how to control MIDI out and wth MIDI in does, etc. is where I struggled. Personally, I think Genome would be more intuitive for someone unfamiliar with MIDI sequencing, but at the same time, I just didn't gel with Genome.
Some things just feel right, like comfortable socks and others, well, they're all scratchy and stuff.
Instead of recording audio you can record record external midi into ms, fix sloppy timings, velocities, etc in there while outputting to some any kind of device/app/sw
