ISSUE: Running out of apps to buy.......................
----what is one to do?
Are you almost out of apps to buy? If not, which ones do you have left?
Comments
This thread should be called Appoholics Central.
Buy them all again and gift them to my account.
Give us back a track to listen to ?
I bought Wavemapper after having it sit in my wishlist since I got an ipad, turns out it's cool as hell & i should have gotten it sooner.
besides that the wish list is mostly depleted, which, if i was intelligent, would mean not buying apps so as to save up for a new ipad, but i will fuck it up and be on this shameful 32-bit device until the grid goes down.
Apart from some more Auria plugins I'm pretty much apped out. Only 6gb left for recording with about 40 apps that won't fit on my iPad.
Now I'm going to save up for an amp, mic and guitar (and what else I need) to do one man band things at friends parties.
Will now only buy apps that make iOS music making easier.
What is the thing, apart from apps but music-related, that would most improve your ability to execute? Get some lessons in that.
Buy a guitar, that will open up a whole new set of expensive apps for you to buy
This thread should be called "I need to spend AU$1,000 in apps, how do?"
I'm at least halfway there and I'm getting discounted iTunes cards, money back from transactions and 'cash rewards' from app purchases. Also IAP are bad (only because it don't 7.5% back).
These are not the responsible actions of a recovering appoholics sponser.
It's easier than you think, not music-related though but it will do the trick: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/apple-store/id299616801?mt=8
I stopped buying apps when I realized I wasn't learning the ones I had fully enough. I'm not saying they should be mastered, but to only scratch the surface when there's so much potential reeked of shamefulness.
That's AUD$1,599
This thread should be renamed: 'young housewife finds a way to cheat AppStore from all music apps'
I could spend a small fortune on auria and fab fi lters . I dont have many of the beatmaker type apps im more of a synth person , but dont have some of the newer synths and definitely have a hole marked z3ta lol
I kicked Gadget to the curb, I'm mentally ill or a shoddy contrarian or both.
I've kicked Cubasis, RS08, Noisepad, Mixtikl 7, Tin pan rhythm, Rooms, Synthcaster, Molton, TriqTraq, Worldscales, AnalogKit, SuperManetron, Jasuto, Notion, BS-16, YouCompose, StrandOrgan, Jeux d'orgues mini, Bleep Box, Amplitube, Beatwave, All Sessionbands, Sound Prism Pro and Electro, SpaceVibe, LP5, Vocalive, Crystal Synth XT, Music Studio, CMP Grand, Interpol, Beatmaker2, Virtual ANS, Mint, 76 Synth, Volotic, Stroke Machine, iElectribe, Figure and Tabletop.
I too have lots of apps that I'II never use and I find that a tad depressing, but in the scheme of things I've made little use out of some desktop music software as well, which was more expensive.
Egoist is a good example for me, it's a great app, but it just didn't fit in with what I was trying to do - that is create finished tracks and concentrating more of the compositional side of things.
I've spent a fair amount on unused apps as well , either I didn't like what they did ( or more likely don't have the intelligence and patience to get them to do something I like.)
Gadget, Nano studio, Caustic and even garage band , I can get something, even if only a few bars most of the time, I still have something.
Having just bought Egoist and again had that familiar feeling " this is so cool, now what the fuck am I actually going to do with it," then clicked on Nano studio and had a little something within about ten minutes, it wasn't anything good but it had a vague resemblance to music at least.
I'm coming at this from a guitarist ( read thick as pig shit ) point of view and on guitar forums you always get a thread every couple of months about getting back to basics, let the music do the talking etc, and then we all go and buy another pedal ( or in my case these days another synth app.)
I've got apps I may never use in an actual tune but I've had a lot of fun with them all the same and that's got to be a good thing.....
Cream, Sunvox, votan telepathy, and different drummer however..... I have not the foggiest idea whats going on with those.and possibly never will.
I really think you need busty in there somehow...
What ever happened to tin pan rhythm. Could have been useful if they had ever added midi.
I bought Z3ta a couple weeks ago and I'm pretty sure it was my final conquest until something new comes along. The addiction has been fading in the meantime and it feels good.
We can wait.
I heard a rumor that maybe, just MAYBE, the lovely Grantophone will be seeing an update before the end of the year allowing it to play nice with others, etc
How are you getting on with it ?
IMO too many iOS musicians are falling into the same trap that many of us fell into last deacde with VSTs- constantly buying new software means you are spending all of your time demoing and not enough time practicing and mastering instruments- I have tried to limit myself to only one page of instrument apps - 16- only the best for me and only the ones that I want to spend quality time in mastering- I ignore new apps unless they look like they will be better at certain tasks than others in my library - and if they are- then the old one goes- a good example was Fieldscaper- which replaced idensity for me-I still like idensity- but it is redundant- it's differences are not enough to keep it- another example was Impaktor- which for me- is so far in advance in terms of sound than any other drum machine that it is the only drum synth outside of gadget I currently use- speaking of Gadget- it replaces much if not all of the bread-n-butter synths out there- allowing me to focus on experimental and esoteric apps- you get the idea- focus on what works best for you- then ignore the rest and practice practice practice- get good at a few apps and make tracks-
What are your top hundred favorites?
Ha ha - I must have hundreds - but keep realising and re-realising that actually all I need/use is Gadget and maybe a couple of others.
Never mind .
This is all very rational and sound advice, but at the prices, and given just a bit of disposable income and serious interest in making music, it's almost a no-brainer to hit 'buy' on the stuff that seems quality.
Eh I'm not a fan of navgating the interface. It sounds pretty top of the line, though.
I master lots of things but focus, so, having different interfaces stimulates me(even if the result is the same)instead of giving me headaches.
