Audiobus update please!

Great app indeed, but needs a little bit of love imho. Here's what I mean.

When I open an app into audiobus, it take an ever bigger amount of patiente to find an app in the ever growing list of apps. I sometimes even lose my temper when the app that I want to open show up for a fraction of a second at the top. And then I jump on it as quick as I can to find out afterward that I opened instead, again, this useless reverb app that I won't give the name begining by probably "a", I guess. I mean what the ^#+^€!?.
Fortunately, I found peace with AUM. So easy, sorted, not appearing, then disapearing, options etc.
I think audiobus devs should have a look, and do something before AB3 that may or may not come in years...

And one more thing that I adressed already. In audiobus side transport bar, I need to see the transport functions of the current active opened app because sometimes there is an icon in it that turn on and off the sound, eg live fx, turnado, glitchbreak I think, and it does make sense that when it is off, I can't turn it on while I have it opened right in my face. Instead, I have to go to audiobus screen to put it on. ?!!

Am I being clear? Anyone else experiencing this?

  • I really don't understand the first problem at all.

The second one is you requesting to show trigger buttons for the app that you're currently looking at? Not sure why, since most apps have controls for that in their UI anyway. Is anyone else seeing this as an issue?

  • I can understand the first one.
If an app is already open when loading into Audiobus, it shows at the top of the list for a fraction of a second. Not quite long enough to select it before it disappears.

If open apps were left at the top of the list to be opened, it would be helpful.

Taking live FX as an example

Say I have a blocs loop running in the input slot and life fx in the effects slot

I set my blocs running and switch to life fx and tweak it a bit

Then I switch back to blocs and I turn off the life fx effects

When I switch back to live fx there is no way to turn the live fx effects back on without switching to another app.

AUM appears at number 30 for me ......

Why? So apps with multiple ports of which some are already in use can be found more easily?

Sometimes you may be doing something in an app, then decide to open it in Audiobus. If it is already at the top of the list, it is quicker to find. Precious seconds help maintain workflow.

  • I don't see it as a massive problem but having favourites with a star (yonac style) that stay on top of the list wouldn't be a bad thing.

    Loving this idea.

    Is this really a thing?
I like it with preset tagging in apps, but for apps? Nah.

Hm, sometimes it would be more convenient to have,
Some apps are multi page so u could be in whatever view in the app and mess there and mess with basic stuff from the app in the sidebar/remote at the same time ...

edit: maybe a setting in audiobus, show shortcuts of current selected app yes/no

I think the gist of this request is to have some sorting options. Particularly a Recently Used ordering, where the most recently attached apps show up at the top. That would be great!

  • +1
And what would be double plus good is a search field

    +1

  • +1000... It is the only real BIG annoyance I always had when using AB... If you have many apps (and if you keep some little ones to try later as I do) then you have a massive list to go through and it is a bit complicated and long to find the same old apps that you always want to include in a AB project...

Once again, +1000 for this !!!

  • +1 on any advanced sorting options in AB. It's not an issue but improves my workflow aLot. AUM style works pretty well for me.

  • Probably a really stupid question or idea:
    Searching in folders ?
is there any way, that devs can get the information about user folders, a pathfinder way of searching might be usefull.
I guess not, but anyway ...

  • I've added this whole thread to the Audiobus 3 To-Do list.

  • +1 for advanced sorting and preset folders please :)

@Sebastian if I could search for my audiobus project names via iOS search would be super super cool and much quicker than anything you can do in audiobus, cause I wouldn't have to open audiobus to search ...
I could just search for "This is great" and open that project directly from the search results without having to open audiobus first (and mess with an optional search in the app) ...
that would be more os x like <3

    yup

    Go on ;)

  • I would personally like to see an option to select apps that have 'state saving' when opeing an app via audiobus rather than finding out via research or when the state doesnt save.

This would be super usefull as i have a ton of apps and dont know/cant remember which ones have state saving.

All very good suggestions so far. This might be a completely different app, but I'd love to be able to build a "set list" of AB presets that I could cycle through using program changes from hardware. I guess it'd be "AudioBus Live Mode" or something.

What would be the absolute icing on the cake is if Loopy could also follow the "set list" and load sessions that match the AB presets.

A boy can dream, can't he? Thanks for listening...

  • hm, its all about sorting apps
I solved this for myself, I just deleted all apps that don't support state saving,
    but thats a radical approach

    interesting
but your set would have to be the same apps for the entire gig, you wouldn't be able to load a preset and jump to the next one like snipping your fingers if its "new apps" introduced to the session because of splashscreens, load times, ...

and it would cut the release phase of sounds and fx when switching?!? (as I understand it)
thats as unmusical as it can get ...

on the other hand this kind of works already (without program change) if you organize it like 1th ab preset song 1 , 2nd song two ect. that should work if you have pauses between songs

Hmm, that does make it seem like AB3 might be just around the corner...

  • It would be great if there was some kind of indication (visual or oterwise) that an app supports state saving

I use transitions between "songs" so that I can switch AB and Loopy presently. I also open all of the apps that I use in presets so that they are armed/ready when I call on them in an AB preset. So, being able to switch presets from hardware would save me from the "checking my email on my iPad between songs" syndrome. Having attention on the audience instead of the iPad is something that I think most performers could appreciate.

ah, I C - you playback something else from a different source while switching
so you just want to jump to the next "song - audiobuspreset" via footswitch or something else?
    yeah cool :)
