I ended up buying the import IAP for LP5, those IAA insert effects are nice and handy, I had Flektion and Wow 2 running for awhile and surprisingly nothing crashed or screeched. That Audioshare/filepicker import is becoming increasingly common, so heartwarming and good.
Too bad this app, Lp5, and Launchpad can't marry each other and mutate into a single app-entity with all the desired features.
That would be the app that everyone here has been looking for.
Which is why for all the drooping and looping going on of late there's still room for The One.
Indeed, we may need to put The Creator into protective custody.
but this app does show that it can be done, now when you ask a dev if it's possible to implement reverse they won't give you the run around about needing another degree from mit and 6 years of r&d to make it happen.
It has some good features built in from the ground up. That's why it's doubly annoying that some of the basic features most of us would expect are missing.
Downloading this now. iphone import and sample tuning are instant hits to me. If it could handle 24 bit samples, that could be another advantage since many sample packs from beatport have 24 bit samples if they wanted to focus on dj market, otherwise agreed that lack of audiobus is strange
so here's the response from mix vibes on their video walk through
" Hi Rin, thanksa lot for this feedback. We had a look at the audiobis forum and all the discussion there is amazingly constructive and interesting. We are looking into it and will make the most to add relevant features in future versions.
About the zoom on the waveform, same thing: this a very legitimate request and we'll do the most to make something about it. The more you give us feedback, the more we get aware of what's relevant to do first. So again, many thanks for it and do not hesitate to write us at [email protected] for more feedback - because it means the world to us that you took the time to do it "
very positive sounding ... so if you've got some feedback you'd like to give, they are listening.
Maybe I'm jaded but I'm so over getting excited when developers say they will look into suggestions. How were the most important feature overlooked in the planning and development? I blame retronyms
Yeah, it's a knockoff, so what? It's a tool at the end of the day just like a MacBook is probably for a developer. If one day, a cheaper, better looking, better performing laptop came along, I'm pretty sure the developers would also change in a heartbeat. I've been waiting for iPhone import on Launchpad for a long ass time so I'm happy I now have this option with Mixvibes.
With that being said, I haven't been able to import shit since paying for the IAP. I think it said 20 seconds was the limit but if you click on iTunes, it shows you your whole music library so you would think you could import a song, then set the 20 sec loop.
Has anybody else had luck in importing songs from iTunes library?
I feel your pain. Hell, that's why I only check in here every few months but it really depends on developer. Mixvibes released Cross DJ and it's a solid app so I don't see why they wouldn't hook this app up.
Mix vibes haven't written their own audio engine, so as far as we're aware, they actually can't add audio bus support, unless the people who supplied their engine add support for it.
Actually, needs to be "good enough" and cheaper. And this is neither.
are you guys serious, this is a first release do you know what launchpad had in it's first release?
the only reason at this point I support Novation is because they are premier experts in ableton live and they know what the launchpad should have, so I hope they implement it....
sure, I'm serious. I work in software for my day job... it's a pretty simple equation at the end of the day: do something of value that nobody else is doing (or do it better) for the the price the customer wants to pay. I checked out this app and didn't see anything that justified keeping it on my iPad given that Launchpad does the same job better and I've already sunk investment into it. Now, if this app comes up with something better, then we'll see.
BTW, by investment I mean time as much as $$$.
Nathan I guess you're talking about audiobus, and Luke what is it that you think launchpad does better?
what @nathan said.
Yeah gotta agree with @Nathan missed opportunity to make a big day one splash!
Ok but to be fair they are a dj company, most dj apps don't prioritize connectivity because you're supposed to be able to perform everything within the app.... something I wish all the other apps would prioritize actually but that being said I wish it had all of those things as well.... but I'm still waiting on launchpad to get panning and I paid allot for it+iaps so frankly mix vibes ain't the end of the world. I think they can still make that splash if they really want to.
Yep they could. Best we tell them what we want and then keep our fingers crossed they see our needs as a new market.
I think the update of this App is going to have a lot of surprises, yes they are a DJ company , i also contacted them with a list of features we would like to see, i also directed them to this forum , so they know what people are asking for.
Cool, the best devs are the ones that listen closely to feedback. Looking forward to seeing what they bring next!
I hear you, but if we really wanted to count all of the apples we'd end up with the fact that really the launchpad is just a grid app, there are tons of grid apps, chipped was actually for the most part the one that broke ground on the iOS platform , there's also beat shuffler and others and outside of iOS there are a ton of them. Novation didn't originate the concept no more than we could be mad at beat hawk for emulating an mpc, and there are allot of mpc apps.... on top of that original sample packs is a bit of an oxymoron isn't it. All this to say that what we need is not less launchpad competition but more. If we had had more of these remix apps the launchpad might look more like using ableton's session view, we'd at least have panning so all and all I think it's a good thing, now lets see if Novation stop resting on those talented laurels of theirs and surprise us with what comes next launchpad wise like they did with Blocs Wave.
I just posted this request in the Launchpad thread as well but could global key change be implemented? If I import a new sample that's in a certain key, I'd like to change all the drum loops to be in that same key so say the kick and any melodic parts would work with my new sample.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I've been playing with this app a little more and some additional thoughts are to please make waveform loop start and end points easier to use since right now, it's finnicky and slow plus difficult to see. Maybe have zoom to better see zero crossings or some sort of loop time (like cross dj) or snap to grid features like Audioshare has so easier to set nicely timed loop. Also please have ability to type in tempo.
Thanks
they said they would do something about that on their youtube video.
Which part? The sample zoom or key change?
zoom
no zoom?
Have you spoken with the dev?
Thanks for the heads up Nathan! While it def isn't the massive update we were all hoping for, I personally have benefited from this update as that AAC itunes transfer feature saved me multiple steps in my workflow as I previously had to use Audioshare to convert the files to wave, then transfer to Remixlive. Plus, let's not forget this isn't even possible on Launchpad for iPhone so for us IPhone users, this is already checkmate due to sample import feature.
As for the soundpacks, I think Launchpads aren't any better or worst. Some loops are good and some just sound cheesy but that's the beauty of it in that one cheesy ass sounding loop might make your gangsta rap hit or Death metal remix sound unique so I'm more concerned about the ability to experiment all of them and the simple tuning feature allows that vs Launchpad. It's good to have both.
As for Audiobus, while there are obviously some great apps on IOS, I've also been burned countless times on apps that didn't live up to hype or ones that the dev abandoned that it's not a deal breaker for me anymore as long as an app helps me achieve what I need to do. I'd love to use this with say Beatmaker but Beatmaker can't even handle 24 bit without converting it so if I can keep it all in house, I'm good with it.
