I tried the app, but the one I bought is all up to date.

Here is da linky link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/griffin-utility/id451146931?mt=8

I'm thinking you are searching under ipad only on yer pad, and like I get fooled a lot of times, this is an iphone app. that runs on the pad as well.

Thank you for the link, Mr. Denied!

Of course, now I'm faced with the "everything's working fine as is - if it ain't broke, don't fix it" vs. "Make sure you have the latest and greatest" dilemma

You bet. Question. How do you use or how far up do you turn the gain knob? I'm unsure how to properly use it.

  • @High5denied - cranked. It's really not a wide-range knob, kind of like the volume knob on an old AM transistor radio. I have not seen it introduce any distortion or high-gain when it's wide open. Same with the headphone knob, which is worse, because while, again, there's not a lot of travel between zero and max, it just spins and spins and spins ...

  • Damn.. $16?
In Australia $90 is the discounted clearance price.

How would you go about having someone here buy it, and ship it to you? Would that save you any money?

Are you sure that is the 30 pin model; and not the lightning version?

  • hmm..I can't even find a studio connect in the Australian store? Amazon......

  • I bought a 30-pin one for around $32 U.S. - figured at the very least I would have a glorified iPad stand and, at the most, and all-in-one solution for hooking up guitars and line out audio to monitors. Unfortunately, the 1/4" instrument jack input, IMO, is garbage. It had so much extra noise that it was basically unusable for guitar compared to my Apogee JAM. I suppose there are some things you could use it for with an instrument cable where that would be less of a problem, but not guitar.

So it sat in a drawer unused for months...and then I picked up a few of the Korg Volca devices, which have 5-pin DIN MIDI input only. The StudioConnect turned out to be a great way to hook up either an iPad or an external controller to the Volca, so it's useful for that.

It is a nice ipad stand, for sure. Stable. I connect my guitar and I think it sounds fine, even pretty good. I guess I will need to run a few more comparisons to my iriffport.

  • I have an Ipad Air 2 and I bought studioconnect from griffin. I cannot make it work with ios 10.2 even after using the side wheel to adjust the input, I get noice and latency. What version of ios were you using with the ipad air 2 High5denied, does it still work with the new ios?

  • Been using my lightning version for a few years through to 10.2 without problems or noise either from my strat. It has always been just fine. If I wiggle the lightning cable too much it crackles a moment but clears right up once I stop touching it. Certainly owes me nothing given how well it has performed so far.

It was at least an ios version prob. 1 or 2 prior to 10.2 ios. I used my irig pro last night, I'll plug in the studio connect tonight when I get a chance. I know at one point a while back, I was getting a bunch of noise from the griffin as well. It was pretty awful sounding. It was strange, the night before it was working fine, and sounded great, then, a noise from hell.

I didn't use it again for a couple weeks, I was sure it was just going to be an ipad stand. Plugged in again, and it was working well, again. I have no idea what was different? I didn't do anything different that I know of. ios software was the same I believe.

  • The next time you experience noise, try moving the lightning connecting cable a little. You may well have a poor connection.

  • I am using the 30pin to lightning connector as High5denied but something is wrong with the config of the studioconnect when I use it with biasfx.

I know the last update Griffin did for the firmware took it up to ipad 3, now with the air 2 its giving me problems. I use the studioconnect with my cellphones iphone 4, 5, 5s and my behringer fcb1010 midi pedal and it works fine, in fact it is owesome. With my ipad air 2 it starts excellent then it gets a whole bunch of crackles and pops after a few seconds then latency kicks and makes it useless. It is unfortunate.

  • I know this is an old thread, but any help is much appreciated.

I had on old Ipad 2 that had Modstep app on it and I ran it through Griffin SC 30pin version (MIDI out) to Korg Volca Sample. It worked as a charm and the setup allowed me to combine MIDI, iPad synths and guitar looper. The iPad broke so I bought a used iPad 3 bacause of 30pin.

Now the app (Modstep) won't recognise the Griffin SC, which is strange, because the charging is working.

Any ideas how to solve this? Do I need to setup iPad to transfer MIDI? Jailbreak iPad? Restart something?

Your help is much needed, thank you in advance!

    Greetings from Slovenia,
    Jaka
