Fugue Machine is a Happy Accident Machine™ for me, and can be applied to any type of music. I can say I never use it's output straight up, though. I make kind of complex interplays with it, and they always seem to come apart at certain points, so I export the midi and fine tune. Trying to get things all running perfect in FM itself is admirable, but like dormering out a house of cards— the magic usually gets lost.

What's your process? Like you record it into your daw?

You guessed it. Record MIDI into a DAW, then arrange as needed. Splitting out to four tracks is essential for tracking down bad notes. I tend to set up some progressions ahead of time, then freelance afterward to see if anything interesting happens. Play with bar length, base note, playhead tempos/reverse/notes/octaves/whatever. Pan for gold and throw out the rest.

As an adjunct to the earlier point about youtube singling out my and only my videos that I’ve captured from my iPad 2 using an Elgato HD60, and making them troublesome to work properly, here’s an alternative:
This was captured using instead a BlackMagic Designs H.264 Pro Recorder, via the normal 30-pin HDMI adaptor. This time I’m not running concurrent sound apps, so the sound sounds sound. The ‘crunch’ is (probably) intentional, I suppose, as it’s the wave symmetry in Adults VCO pinning full scale deflection on purpose.

[edit after I posted it, obviously] now I’ve posted this and the youtube video is here in this post, I play it and encounter no problems. The Elgato Game Capture HD60 upload to youtube is definitely the source of problems playing. If you want problems get an Elgato.

  • Since I played Fugue only on beta ,is there a way to switch to the simple but absolutely essential chromatic scale?
