  • More than anything, how difficult would it be to program this synth to be AU? Would be awesome if we could run.more instances in AUM.

  • Bought the synth thanks to the thread. I like it so far.

  • OK yeah, EGDY01 is cooler than I originally thought. Tame to total mayhem in one little bitty app.

  • You've sold me on it. Bought.

    Good choicE! LOL

  • Was thinking of nabbing this synth. But someone left a review that says it's buggy & a ripoff. Figured it was based on earlier version, but last update was Oct 2015 & bad review was just in Feb 2016, so based on current version.

Can anyone confirm or dismiss the "buggy/ripoff" claims?

    No bugs.

This appears to be a rebuild they did in the last year and it is nice.

Most reminds me of a Thor type synth, but, having some good ambiance and robo type stuff as well. I use Animoog 90% of time on work songs, and this is one of few that can substitute. As I mentioned loaded with many variable and features and parameters.

    AND UNIVERSAL!

    App is a joy.

    Not one issue for me.

Awesome. I like the weirdness in so,e of the demo videos. The price is right & universal. Good/easy midi in/out too?

Meh. Seems like MIDI is broke pretty bad. First of all, due to the color choice, I can't see the MIDI channel at all unless I hold my face a couple inches from the screen and then push the channel selector a few times to watch the changes.

Then, when you close the settings and re-open it, the channel is gone (though it seems to have kept the setting because notes still go to it).

I can only get notes to work, not control changes.
Nothing happens in MIDI learn when I tweak controllers either in hardware or via ModStep.

Doesn't appear to put out any MIDI. Doesn't appear to receive MIDI clock or transport controls.

So I guess if you only need to send notes to it and your eyesight is better than mine so you can tell what channel to send on ...

    Disappointing.

  • So strange. Two completely opposite impressions of the same app back to back.

One says it's a joy, no bugs, no issues, and could stand in for the top tier synths. The other reports bad UI, nearly completely broken midi, and disappointing.

You heard more than I was really saying. I was only commenting on the MIDI aspect since you had asked about it. The disappointment was that the MIDI is broken since otherwise I like the app (and said so earlier).

Also, I didn't say the UI is bad, only the MIDI channel selection. See below. Can't see it for crap. Other than that I like the UI.

Well, I just reread what you posted and it still sounds like your impression is that it's broken, with a flawed UI and overall disappointing to you. Was actually about to buy this one until I read your impression. But, you like it eh?

Cracker is one of the lesser commented on differences between the American and Queen's version of the same language. Quite distinct meanings...

It the U.S. "Cracker" is also... more or less... a derogatory term for a white caucasian person.

Only, it's pronounced more like "Crackah" lol

I refunded Poseidon because some of the samples were cracking on my iPad4. I thought maybe that's what was meant here. iOS was updated since then maybe it was an iOS issue and now it's fixed. I liked it though, the delay fx was nice, I wish all the other Virsyn synth had that delay.

I think a couple of presets are slightly dodgy on my air 2 , and it sometimes freezes when I use the graphic filter option but it's a lovely thing

No. Of course not. But if there are reviews on iTunes that claim the app is broken, has bugs, etc. AND someone here posts similar info... it does cause me to reconsider a purchase.

  • "It's A Cracker" was a regular saying from the Irsh comedian, Frank Carson. Like Tommy Cooper would say, "Just Like That!"....... Or Paul Daniels, "You May Like It?.......... But Not A Lot!".......

I'm sure all of us have purchased apps there were not quite there, or needed a few bugs squashed and have been told by devs they're on it.. another update coming within a month, etc. Then, nothing. Crickets. You've paid for a busted app and now a couple months have gone by and you just write it off.

So, before I buy I read reviews. This one has some decent ones. The OP of this thread loves it. Looks like it's a good value... I go to buy. Oh wait, there's a bad review saying there are lots of bugs, etc and to "stop ripping people off and fix the app".

Then I look to see when it was last updated, October 2015. Bad review Feb 2016. Plenty of time to have fixed some bugs. Maybe it's just user error and no real bugs, or the user's device is hosed and they're wrongfully blaming the app?

I ask here if there's any confirmation of bugs. One person says it's all perfect, the next lists some issues that are troubling and sound like it might actually be buggy after all.

But, I want a nice little synth that sounds good and has potential for some out of the ordinary sounds, is universal, budget price, etc. This one ticks all the boxes, but the bad review and confirmation here of bugs gives me pause. I've just bought too many buggy apps that devs promised to fix, but never got around to it.

On the other hand, it looks like this app has a decent history of bug fix updates too.

I realize some devs have good reputations and you can count on them to fix stuff, but I don't know who all these devs are. I've only been delving into music apps for about 3 months now.

For example, many here rave about ThumbJam. I read some reviews, sounds great. Watched videos, looks cool. Go to buy the app... oops! It hasn't been updated in about a year. I decide to just ask here and tag the dev if an update is coming, then I get privately chided as coming off "strident" and "entitled" for having the audacity to ask a cherished and respected dev if they had any more plans to update their app.

I didn't know who that dev was, had no clue of their reputation, and I don't know this dev either. So, all I can do is ask. I've only been active here for about 3 months so I don't know who all the good devs are, and who the ones are who've moved on... never to be heard from again.

I do like the app (and said so earlier in the thread). After you asked about the MIDI, I thought I should check it out since I did say I liked it. That's when I found out the MIDI seems to be broken. I was just letting you know, and also with the thought that the dev might see it. (yes, I know I should report it directly, but I'm lazy and really don't care that much)

Do I regret my enormous $2 purchase because of the MIDI? Nope.

    @hacked_to_pieces
YES! Of course he should get my approval before buying anything! I'm insulted you would even ask that.

    $2?! It says it's $5. Raised the price AND it's buggy? ;)

  • I got it in a bundle so it was cheaper. $2 is what I remembered. I didn't check. B)

I'm probably going to go ahead and get it. Looks like it came out in 2013 and has had at least quarterly updates and bug fixes with regularity since it came out. Doesn't appear to be abandoned and most seem to like the sounds they can carve with it.

Thanks for the heads up on the midi stuff. As long as midi in works well, I'm ok with it.

  • Midi in only works for notes, not cc's as far as I can tell.

Notes is fine with me. I'm just looking for more stuff to send notes to from apps like Arpist, Xynthesizr, SunVox, and Fugue Machine, once I finally pull the trigger on that one.
