Just FYI: You can edit your title (if you started the thread....)

  • Thanks, will do!

  • Hope they didn't pay him. Only scratching (a bit) the surface of Modstep. Far from tutorial videos (basically it's one short video cut in tiny pieces).
PS. With much respect (always enjoying other reviews)

he made another video saying they did... (and i agree with you)

Be honest, I have no external keyboard to play Modstep. My tutorial said the circle icon for connection is for USB keyboard! I only knows this by Jakob's 5 tutorial video. I always think it is some sort of IAA or Midi message connection between apps! How dumb I was. These 5 videos are short, but representative. Thanks to it, Jakob made it for us! Meaningful, even though this is a tiny detail on Modstep.

There are going to be more videos. I really like Jakob's style - I hope that the vids get to the meat of the app soon.

  • I hope they did pay him
Mans gotta eat and he has excellent communication and promotional skills.. It's a win win for all parties involved

I hope so too! If they are going to profit from the vids why shouldn't t he?

Korg should hire Jakob for Volca FM!

  • I've played and replayed the videos. Really great work as always!
    Learning so much!

  • I don't think Jacob does a bad job. As a complete beginner, his videos do travel at quite a rate. Saying that though, Modstep is hardly a beginners piece of software.

I definetly think having these tutorial vids for such an in depth programme is a good idea and will help many :)

  • I think the videos are perfectly aimed at users who have experience but do not know where to start with ModStep.

a bit like a whistle stop tour.

Just to clear things up, the usb icon in settings is to enable send/receive of midi data via USB to a connected PC running studiomux.
YES, you can control ModStep from controllers connected to your PC or send MIDI to your PC from ModStep !!!!

  • Oh yes, we did pay him :) and he is the perfect fit imo. These videos are short ones in order to give you a quick overview of what you can do where; covering every button and functinality is not their intention or scope. Rest assured that this is only the beginning!

  • This video are for guys like me that, even if I don't really need to watch the tutorial since those are things I already figured out by my self, I just enjoy the way Jaqob does them instead of watching a 30mminutes tutorial capturing the iPad screen via USB on quick time and a boring voiceover explaining every little detail of the app so the time I need that precise hint have to watch it all over again, obviously skipping at least 4 times the section I need.
@Korakios I sincerely hope you won't get paid for your job. No offense meant. And by the way I'm going to patron Jaqob right now for no work at all. Have a good life.

Yes saying that someone should not get paid @Korakios as the videos don't fit what you want., is kinda rude. I wish Jacob all the best - he has given me a lot of pleasure with his vids :)

Spit out my coffee moment :p

  • Yeah, Fruitbat, exactly..Of course he should be compensated! Here's hoping he makes more, covering as much detail as is possible. I'm a huge fan, he's great!

  • I like his vids, he is enthusiastic about what he does, and gets the point across very well while still keeping you watching, not an easy thing to do

Who cares if you paid him or not. It is a total indiscretion for anyone to even mention it and is nobody's business.

I would like to see some tutorials on the heavy duty stuff that opens up when you push buttons...stuff that takes too long time to figure out on your own and is too complex, since you're dealing with an app that you don't know, it's hard to find "that" button you didn't push, or a step you forgot, that stops you from doing whatever you were going to do...

Making midi templates, and just knowing what all the little buttons do...would be nice ...
    But it's getting there

The only thing that grates on my nerves is listening to Jacob's patronising tone of voice...
I wonder if talks like that with other people

Yes he does. I personally would like to slow him down just a touch :p , but doing these sort of videos is notoriously difficult to do for many different user groups.

Some videos end up so dry that you have to hide your pills in case of ending up suicidal through boredom :p - definetly not Jacob!

Perhaps if youtube implement link you could slow it down yourself :D

    Sharon Stones? legs? <3

  • watched 2 of them, now I want to buy ModStep.

    (money well-spent I say)

    Glad that you hooked up

  • I find Jakob quite entertaining and a lot of times inspiring. Even if he shows stuff i already figured out somehow, he makes me revisit those apps.
So i'm very glad he got hired by the Modstep devs.
