Alexander Zolotov
I've been looking more into the work of SunVox's Russian developer Alexander Zolotov's other apps. All of them seem really innovative and beautifully experimental to me. The imagination of this guy is just incredible. But, many of his apps haven't seen any updates in awhile and they also all look a little dated. That's not a bad thing or even a critique at all. The two that I have work flawlessly.
Checke out his soundcloud, youtube, facebook pages and don't see much evidence of continued development of anything. Does anyone know if he's still hard at work in his strange mad-scientist lab of interesting sound/image/frequency experimentation? I really hope that he is. I'd love to see just how far he could take some of these ideas.

Virtual ANS was updated quite recently. 1958, I think.
I've got Virtual ANS and SunVox. They don't seem to be your average run-of-the-mill apps. Was looking at some of his other ones, and the one that uses audio as a video effect between devices. Interesting. Think I'll pick up a couple more of his, but was wondering if he's still in the game at all. I see he's got somewhere regular postings of SunVox tunes, but was curious if anyone knows if he's got anything else cooking.
Friend/connected on facebook. I'll just ask him myself... that is, if he speaks English or Spanish.. as my Russian is pretty rusty.
Nope. SunVox is just an average run-of-the-mill app just like any other. What on earth would make you say that? I bet you struggle with Figure as well.
A while back I browsed through his apps on the App Store. With the exception of sunvox and virtual, they appear to be synths, each a similar variation on a different sound theme. Anybody have any experiences with these? What kinds of sounds are on display here?
The sound influencing & mixing image stuff. Seems like it could be taken further and an intriguing start for sure.
Why the insults? Still sour from the piss in your cheerios Sport?
What's with all the negativity around here lately?
I think @wim read your statement/post wrong @skiphunt . You did say "They don't seem to be"
Just trying to bring some peace all up in here.
Geez, I really don't know. I made one comment on the moog 15 thread that kinda made fun of all the new app ecstasy, while trying to find out what all the fuss was about, and I got crucified for doing anything other than joining in with the rapturous delight.
Maybe it's some weird Mars in retrograde thing going on.
Anyway... this cat's apps kind of intrigue me... seems like they've achieved quite a bit in small, multi-platform packages and look like they could push the envelop in the sound/image area. Kinda like Takete has done but on a lower level. Would love to see what this dev could do further in this particular genre.
What’s your new picture? A Moomin?
My avatar? It's a shot I took in Bolivia back in November. Sunrise in the great altiplano salt flats of Salar de Uyuni. I was shooting the landscape of the flats when this dog wondered into the frame and made the shot.
Why? What's a "moomin"?
I've been lurking here quite awhile, enjoying the knowledge but struggling with what to say first. So here goes ...
@skiphunt : Your avatar shot moves me to wordless admiration. Plus the story of it, excellent serendipity.
Thanks everybody. And ... hi. (smiley waves)
@decibelle Thank you. I'm honored.
ps: I'm a fan of Zolotov's apps too.
pps: @skiphunt : My pleasure.
@skiphunt
That's a great shot
virtualANS has unexpectedly become one of my favorite synths... it truly has a lovely sound all of its own. really hope it continues to be developed.
Cool pic @skiphunt !
It was a joke, peeps. If SunVox is run-of-the-mill, it is so on another planet, not here.
I have all of his apps and they are wonderful.
They bring the Cold War Glamour.
LOL! I need to "lighten up Francis". Didn't get the joke, but that's totally my sense of humor.
Thanks for the nice compliments on my photo. Made my day.
And, I did hear back from Mr. Zolotov. He is indeed working on something brand new, but doesn't want to talk about it yet. So... more cool stuff coming!
Welcome @decibelle. We've been waiting for you.
Are you decibelle from SF?
If you haven't already, grab his free PhonoPaper app. It can use the camera to convert the image to a VirtualANS file that you can export & reimport into VirtualANS for further manipulation & more complex synth sound. Or you can save it as a jpg to your camera roll in a form that you can print and scan for the image's sound. And you can also record with the mic to convert the sound to image.
I haven't found a practical use for this yet, but I bet I will. Very cool.
Also grabbed his SpectrumGen that I might like even better than the VirtualANS sound. You can draw the full spectrum of color & light/dark to influence tone etc. Play the synth while changing & drawing out the spectrum, record in-app to copy/paste into something else.
Also supports AB/IAA.
It's universal and midi controllable.
All this for a $1.
He's got another one that looks almost identical in function called Pixelwave, but I can't tell what the biggest difference is, so I got the one that went to 8 octave instead of 6.
Also, multitouch arpeggiator.
Don't let the fact it's only $1 throw you off. It's worth more.
@ johnnyfromberkely : Dunno, I'm decibellefrommyhouse, if that helps! (not a nickname, just a description)
This Decibelle?
@johnfromberkeley : Oh, sorry, no, not me, I'm an individual, not a business. I'm the decibelle who was active on hq audio torrent forums years ago.
@JohnnyGoodyear : Awesome.
(sorry for the threadjacking)
