Skram VS Blocs wave updates..

Blocs Wave and Skram came out at about the same time but has anyone noticed that Blocs gets updated practically every other day vs Skram, being comparitivly little?
Also Auria Pros's been quiet awhile. Something tells me something big and good is coming.

    +1

  • I'm not sure skram has been updated at all (although they've been teasing an update with link support is coming soon) but it's still become one of my most used apps and probably the app I have the most fun with.

  • I agree I can't think of any reason why completely different companies would have different release schedules.

  • There are a ton of reasons why companies might have different release schedules. What I don't get is why companies don't at least check in once in a while and provide updates to their most enthusiastic users.

Also, the thing I tend to forget is that Novation has set the bar really high in terms of both communication and frequency of quality updates. They deserve all the kudos they are getting right now and I hope the management team is getting this feedback from us.

    Skram update please :)

  • I'm still waiting(& looking forward to) for the Skram update promises too......Tho, I'm not a programmer, so I have no idea how long is a piece of string to fix and add?....... If you get my drift?....

  • Waiting also for Skram update , the poor current connectivity hinders it's potential :((

  • It's INCREDIBLE how on the case Novation is w BLOCS wave!. That app is just transforming itself before our eyes. In a year it'll be right up there w Gadget, if not already in many ways..
And yes, Auria was already "Big and Good" when it first came out three years ago, not to mention the pro version. Rim Continued to impress by ironing out the bugs FAST! But as good as it already is, he will once again blow minds this year, I have a feeling. I just sense that's he's at work on something..

  • Not to mention the new slicing update on Blocs Wave. Look how fast their sound library is developing.. I forgot to mention Modstep also.. Now there's an outfit that's also hard at work!

Great to see frequency of Blocs updates, and how quickly it's come this far, but they are being a little cheeky with the update version numbering ... It can inspire some cognitive dissonance, like: "Whoa! Version 4.1 and still no user bank (or whatever favored wishlist item)?" vs. "Wow! Look how many updates in just two months since release."

  • They're on here all the time though and have probably read your comment . Perhaps they will institute a user bank soon?

With an app that works with loops like this, I probably prefer the samples to only be saved with projects (how it works now), and don't really need a user bank. I use Audioshare as the storage hub, so it works efficiently enough, and keeps things neat. I was just trying to come up with some feature request example to say some kinda clever shit about it being version 4.1 after two months.

Where I get frustrated as far as user banks and workflow are concerned is when drum sample apps - or any app that can trigger one shot samples - don't include option for creating and organizing user folders, with Dropbox/iCloud folder import. Beathawk and BM2 are only sample apps that deliver in this way as far as I can tell.

  • I wouldn't mind the option.

  • I'm interested in Blocs Wave, but I've got one question before buying.

It looks like it can be used in the Output slot of AB. I'm guessing this means I can use AB to record other apps (Figure, Thumbjam, Launchpad) directly into Blocs Wave, correct?

I know you can import from AudioCopy or Audioshare, but I'd like to go direct if possible.

I've been recording snippets of imaschine and sound prism link edition into Blocks Wave all night via audiobus. There is something wonky about the countin counter in Blocs that I can't seem to figure out (maybe it's queuing off of link instead of the number of bars I 've specified in settings?) but I've gotten great results so far.

    Correct

  • @robertreynolds and @mschenkel.it - Thanks for the responses. Buying it now. I've always meant to utilize Launchpad to trigge my own loops with the Import IAP, but I found that all the pre-work to create my loops, make folders, import, etc. kind of killed my inspiration. This app seems much quicker and easier.

It says it has a count in but in the little test I did to check if it was working as a AB input couldn't hear it or notice it. But recording was just fine

Agree on the count-in being wonky

I think this might be because Blocs Wave carries on playing loops indefinitely. After a while, if you've been tweaking loop points on your sounds, the '1', 'start', or 'on-beat', might become vague concepts. One way to address this is to press the section 'Stop button'. Then press it again to restart your loops. You'll soon figure out where your '1' is.

Also, at present, there is no 'click'. We'd advise putting a simple drum loop or Percussion loop in to help with your count it. You can remove it afterwards if you like. Clearly, a click would be useful here.

Btw.. We've just managed to add a new feature called ' flatten' into next weeks release along with User Library management. Here is a sneak peek:

Erm. Flatten? C'mon you lot, educated guesses?

Tried sunrizer/Alchemy/others input AB to Blocs in the output, with background audio on of course, and can record BUT can't hear in the source apo while playing....which makes it fun and random on playback, but not a long term proposition :)

Any thoughts? Missing something that needs igniting in Blocs? Sure it's something simple, but being simple I haven't clicked it yet...

In Ableton Live flatten means rendering MIDI to audio. Since BW is all audio, I'm stymied. Maybe it means rendering the recorded clip slices to a single audio clip

    Turn on ''monitoring" ?

  • Can only think it's make a 'final' loop (like reducing layers in Photoshop) of something you've sliced up...we'll see :)

This is my guess--making the sliced-up recording into the default loop.

  • So where are these promised Skram connectivity updates then ? It's a proper team effort , not a solo bedroom dev so expected some action by now lol

This is my guess--making the sliced-up recording into the default loop.

Hopefully automatically saving it as a variant, so we don't loose the original.

    Bingo!
