  • So can I save my new drumset easily yet?

    Developer @pascal , @audionomy,

This is your current notes arrangment: (what a mess!)

    C1 -1 kick
    D1 -2 snare
    F#1 -3 hhclosed
    A#1 -4 hhopen
    D#1 -5 clap
    C#1 -6 rimshot
    G#2 -7 cowbell
    G1 -8 tom
    C#2 -9 cymbal

Could you please change the midi notes for keying in. Why you can not arrange 8 instruments midi notes to normal alphabetical order?

In Modstep, the drum pad can not access that G#2 cowbell. If I change the base note from C1 to C2, part of sound on C1 base note can not pass through the midi sequencer of Modstep.

I don't understand the logic why you arrange the midi notes in this way. That means I can only directly play 7 instruments on C1 base note.

The photo shows C1 base note (the round circle)

Why not just create a DM2 pad template in the Modstep template editor with these bindings? It only takes a minute. You can then save it as a track preset. :)

I see what you meant. I think this is good way to go for everyone who are using DM2 with Modstep.

For me, there is a reason I don't like pad bindings template on Modstep. I do not have a computer is my reason. Modstep can only export the template to PC/Mac. As recommended to Modstep developer @Nerk_, it is better to even have the template export and save to iPad/dropbox storage. Many iPad users have no access to computers. So everytime there is Modstep upgrade, some of stuffs being erased, which is annoying, so don't like the Modstep saving mechanism at moment.

I haven't checked if it matches exactly, but it seems DM2 may be using the MPC-style MIDI drum map, which kind of makes sense.

  • Pad bindings is good that Modstep drum pads can access IMPC Pro by midi learn. It just too troublesome to save my own bindings without a computer.

  • edited June 2016

Ok, If that MPC style is their way, I can use pad bindings. 8 instruments is not big deal. IMPC Pro has 64 (16 x 4) notes for bindings, which is what I don't want to do.

  • Yeah that's true, I'd like it to save to iCloud too as well as Dropbox. I have two iPads and want to share templates between them. Right now it's difficult, should be quick and easy...

  • To me it looks like the DM2 drum note assignment is pretty darn close to classic General Midi layout :)

  • edited June 2016

thank you, Bianca. I see that 56 G#2 for Cowbell.

  • Good job. The developer has been working hard. Hope the midi works well now. Will test it later.

  • Still a no go for me in MTS. Virtual Midi = no play. IAA = no play.

  • @Kaikoo2 and other DM-2 / modstep users: please find attached a template for dm-2, also added boom808 and boom909 (those will be in the next update)

    Thank you, sir.
Just to be clear, to import the templates, I drag the unzipped files (in my case, just the DM-2.mtt) on my Mac to the iPad. And then I drag the template to the File Sharing window under the APPs menu.
I click on Modstep, which brings up the Modstep document folders. I SEE the Templates folder, but I can't select it, and nor can I drag the mtt files into it. If I just dump the mtt files among the folders, I don't think I can find them in Modstep.

Is there a simpler way? I can't find anything in the Modstep manual on how to do this.

  • @ExAsperis99 : Just follow these steps, its not possible to directly drag them on a specific folder, just drag them on the documents folder! They will appear in the imported folder in the templates browser.

    1. Unzip the downloaded folder.
    2. Connect your iPad to your computer and open iTunes.
    3. Go to the Apps filesharing tab, select modstep and drag all the files into the documents folder.
    4. Wait a few moments and the files will vanish. Now you can load them from within modstep.
  • Aha! Thanks.
And now I see the DM2 template!
Um...but while I see midi notes being recorded in the scene, there's no sound...
But I've overcome this problem before! Thanks again.

  • Yeah, dm-2 is one of those apps that just reacts to midi from the modstep port: therefore you need to tap IO and then select modstep as the output for that track...

  • edited June 2016

    Works! Holy cow.
Here was my error. I had DM2 in the track but initially had Link on. I restarted DM2 (after dragging the app off the track and reinstalling it). And now I am in Mechanik heaven.
    EDIT:
Actually, I'm mistaken. The midi notes in the DM2 track are still silent. It's the background audio of DM2's original beat that was playing. I'll solve and return.
EDIT 2: Have you ever met one of those people who, as adults, still get their right and left confused? It astounds me. I'm not one of them. I know my left from right. But apparently, I can't tell my midi in from my midi out. EVEN WHEN YOU STATE QUITE CLEARLY that the Modstep is the Output.
Ok. NOW I am in Mechanik heaven.

  • has the background built in glare been removed?

    Hi there,

Midi Mapping is on the Todo list. I intend to 'midify" quite a large part of DM2 (DRUMS, PADS, MIXER, FX) so it will take a while to complete but it is coming for sure.

Currently working on 1.1. Steps Divisions have been implemented (tuplet, triplet, quadriplet) and they are lots of fun to use.

I think DM2 is awesome. The main thing is like to see is either assignable effects or separate outputs so fx could be added through AB/AUM. Thanks for this great app!

  • Agreed, master fx only are useless for me. I need separate delay sends or separate outs.

  • edited June 2016

Assignable FX per track are coming too. Most likely in update 1.2.

    Best, Pascal

  • I think version 1.0.3 just dropped in on my iPad :)
