Remixlive 1.2 & Cross DJ Pro 3.1: now with Ableton Link
Hey all,
We're very proud to announce the release today of two updates for our two flagship apps, Remixlive and Cross DJ Pro for iOS. The main new thing is that both of them now feature Ableton Link, which we're pretty excited about since it's the first time a pro dj app is Link-compatible! As you can see in the video up there you can link several instances of Remixlive together as well as Cross DJ Pro in order to craft unique jams…
For the people in here who already use Remixlive, you'll also find that there are quite a lot of refinements being brought to that app besides Ableton Link. Let me paste some of the PR here and I'll be back after the jump; these are the other new features of Remixlive 1.2:
• Record external audio in Remixlive – from any iOS-compatible microphone or sound card.
• New ‘Essential FX’ pack: includes the four extra effects in one package.
• Overhauled sample collection – improvements include a search bar, alphabetic sorting, etc.
• Rename or delete any sample, including factory samples.
• Delete and restore any factory pack.
• All new info tab that displays each sample’s instrument, BPM, beats, key, & more.
We think you'll find that all these improvements make the app a smoother and slicker experience than before. Also we wanted to mention that we're glad to be on here since you'll notice that many of these features have been at least in part shaped by user feedback from this forum so, thanks for helping us improve the app, and we hope you'll like what we have in store for the app now and in the future!
Also, since this is a two-app update palooza, you'll notice that the 3.1 update of Cross DJ Pro also includes some new features besides Ableton Link, not the least of which is Audiobus (input) and Inter-App Audio integration. Yep, we're bringing everything under the Audiobus tent.
We hope you'll like the update, and have fun jamming with both the apps! Here are the download links in case you'd like to get in on the action:

whoa!
you guys aren't messing around, thank you for giving us a clear picture of what is currently possible on the platform and these wonderful updates.
gotta also say thanks for a demo that didn't use the obligatory noisy dubstep or typical house beat either... it's allot easier to discern what's going on in the demo.
Thanks!
That video did take quite a bit of effort to put together, as we wanted to do something kind of original and striking, at the very least sound-wise. Also, yes, the slower BPM was chosen specifically so it would be easier to understand what's going on in the video; plus what you hear in the video was recorded 100% live with the apps and the setup that you see.
you guys have come such a long way in such a short time, ok this will make the app golden.
you've already got live in recording... very cool.
but.... realtime recording of pad play into an audio slot that we decide/select on the fly would be awesome... all of this without stopping the music... always a seamless loop of a bar amount that we choose from like 1 bar to at least 8, but up to 32 would be super nice.
follow actions like we talked about earlier so that we can mimic that monome/mlr / ableton like performance pad play
the current fx are ok but we need some frequency shifters, glitchers and others that are a little bit more creative in their expressivity with the option to be beat synced and non-synced. plus we need an side chain compression.
time stretching would be cool, but not before those other things.
and if you could put a sample slicer in there that could take a loop and slice it up and put it on different pads for us so that we could beat juggle with it via the follow actions that would be incredible
midi control via midi controllers
and in app sample editing and ability to audition tracks from our iTunes library and load them up.... this way we could go through our samples , audition them, load them up , create loops, slice them into pad rows, perform and record those performances.
would be great to have a master volume fader on screen in addition to the 8, and a separate volume for sample auditioning.
and I know you guys gotta eat so let me help with that
Yes, more feature requests! We gotta keep our product manager happy after all! (he craves feature requests above all)
Let me see if I can answer these:
1. Yes! We haven't forgotten about that, it's just that it's a huuugely advanced feature. But it's still on our feature request list.
2. Duly noted.
3. Time stretching we already have, since day one actually, if you've tried changing the BPM on any pack you'll have experienced it (hopefully, otherwise something's gone very wrong ahah)
4. Again, duly noted! (even though that sounds astoundingly complicated)
5. Yep, it's on the feature request list.
6. As far as the sample editing goes you can already kind of do that with the ADSR feature. You can't really "audition" any of the samples but with this update you can now delete the ones you don't use! We've already thought about an audition feature proper though, but … don't hold your breath on that one.
thanks for the response.... I didn't have cross dj but I just checked it out and I bought it because it looks good and you guys are building allot of good credit with your work here and I appreciate it.
I didn't know you guys already had time stretching wow, hadn't ever tried to do it, thanks for that!....
the sample editing only needs to be good enough to make a clean loop, cause it would be wonderful to be able to browse our libraries like the browser in cross dj, and load up a track, edit a loop and truncate it destructively so we don't waste storage space.
re: the follow actions, it seems like most of what you need is already there, it seems like we only need the option to tell the pad in pad preferences to trigger the next pad when it's finished, and let us keep the quantize options or not use any....
thank you so much for the "delete' feature. and thank you for already considering the sample audition separate volume, it would really help cause you don't generally want to audition samples at the same volume as the rest of the music..... get some nasty surprises that way.
link between apps, midi control already on the way.... , thank you, thank you, thank you.....
just some inspiration,
Thanks guys. Very much appreciated.
Love the trajectory of these two apps. Thanks for the hard work!
rock on! thanks for the awesome update!
@Remixlive thanks for the update , one request I have that should be to the top list is AudioCopy , AudioShare and Dropbox import of samples, I am quite surprising it's not in this update.
This one:
Another vote for this one.
Thanks for the update guys. I second the midi controller ability and Dropbox/ open in/ more sample import options.
There is an import(IAA purchase of $5.99) via iTunes tho, I think?
Opinions/thought
I just bought the FX IAP. I'm a sucker for a deal. lol.
Under the special features section of IAP, there are these choices:
Unlimited Record
Transpose
Advanced Sample Editing
Importing Samples
Have any of you purchased these? If so, thoughts? I'm looking into the unlimited record, maybe importing samples, and Advanced Sample editing.
But.........Wondering which one(s) you may use, and think is most important to how you use remixlive. I have only scratched the surface air above the app. So.....How long can I record in the app? Without the IAP? Do I need this if I onlyl want to use it with IAA or AB. I think prob. Not? `
The timestretch in RemixLive is great. Shame Cubasis, or Auria Pro didn't implement this technology when you import a audio sample into a track. It can be done as these guys(& Blocs, I think?) have.
Great to see another DJ app besides DJDJ get link. It looks like only Soundcloud and files from Itunes sharing can be imported? I'll buy the first DJ app that allows files from cloud services and/or audioshare. Cheers
Whoa!!! Just woke up and read this! Thanks guys! This is great!! And what makes this really bad ass compared to your competitor, Novation, is that sample import is available on the iPhone remixlive whereas on Launchpad, it's a no go. For those of us who jam on the subway, this is IMPORTANT. Also @bounce, that is correct, DJDJ does have link but I like Cross DJ a lot better than DJDJ as one, it's available on iphone and two, just felt not as smooth as Cross DJ, for me at least. Oh, and how could I forget, we can also use this in conjunction WITH Blocs. To be fair to remixlive, I'll post their app in their thread as the two competitors actually can benefit from each other's hard work as I don't see how anyone who loves both apps would not want to use both together.
Keep up great work!!!
DjDj aleady has Link!
Thanks for the support guys, as well as the suggestions.
To answer what some of you have mentioned, indeed we know that DJDJ has Ableton Link, you'll notice however that we did not say "the first ever DJ app with Ableton Link" but "the first pro DJ app with Ableton Link".
@High5denied : Unlimited Record is somewhat clumsily named, it's not in relation to the recording of a larger track (there's no cap on that one) but in relation to the on-pad recording option. In the normal app you can only record on a pad five times and then it will ask you to buy the IAP. This feature has also been expanded in this latest version to record from any iOS-compatible microphone or sound card (as opposed to just the device's microphone previously).
Advanced Sample Editing allows you to access envelope controls for each sample, which are dynamic and non-destructive (we're looking at having the option of making it destructive in the future so that you can permanently shape samples as well).
Importing Samples right now is only from iTunes, we're also looking at the usual suspects suggested around here (Dropbox/Audioshare/Audiocopy) in the future for easier/smoother sample management.
@Nathan you might be surprised to hear that you're not the first one to ask for NAS/DLNA support for Cross DJ mobile... Also we haven't forgotten about the sound packs, it just takes time to get them out there!
Cheers,
The Remixlive team
Thank you Remixlive Team.
@Nathan, regarding the first question, I don't believe that's very high on our priorities list...
As far as state saving goes, we know the option is there, and it is a very interesting feature, however in the interest of keeping things clear and honest with you, it's actually a very costly feature in terms of development time, time that could be (and is being) spent on features that are as important and are also asked more frequently by the user base at large. I'm not saying that it's never going to come to Remixlive, mind you ; just that it's not our focus at the moment.
@Remixlive To be very honest. If you guys add midi control that is learnable I would probably use CrossDj and remix live exclusively. It's pretty much the fact that you force me to use "sanctioned" controllers that's designated CrossDj to the never used category alongside djay2. Please PLEASE add normal midi support
Any chance of Audioshare import into Cross DJ please?
@Remixlive is Spotify integration anywhere on your list? deeJay2 has it, but has no Link.
As far as convenient use of DJ software, it all starts with actually having music to spin. I don't keep large iTunes libraries on my iPad. I pay for a Spotify premium account. Hoping this is in the roadmap somewhere.
Also, really hoping for midi mapping in both of your apps, but especially Remixlive.
Hey guys, if you check many of the threads here, I've been one of your biggest supporters and defenders (and was the one who even recommended implementing some sort of collaboration between Remixlive and Cross DJ) but I'm a little saddened now so hope there's a mistake on my part.
I've been trying to load up several old classic rock songs into Cross DJ and the initial downbeat/cue points are wrong. I tried doing a search online and found some old threads in your forums and some guy by the name of Rojec has provided what I feel to be very lame ass answers to what were in my opinion pretty mature respectful requests to add back a feature to set the initial cue point/feature. Again, apologies in advance if this feature is available somewhere (please let me know) but if it's not, your claim above that this is a "pro" DJ app is incorrect. This is standard protocol on all the other major dj apps so please educate me where this feature is and/or add this high to your priority list to implement, otherwise this app is not useful for me. I want to do innovative, mashup things with your app, not just freakin beatmatch the same old 4 to the floor house / EDM stuff , especially since your zoom function still hasn't been implemented into remixlive plus the loop function doesnt work (I tried loading in the same rock songs to loop certain sections and the loop keeps playing past the end point)
If you're curious what songs I'm trying, just try ANY Led Zeppelin song.
Apologies if this message has some negativity but i lost some sleep and energy just trying to figure out how to edit the initial downbeat to change the beatgrid as well as playing with the loop function.
Hi @gjcyrus,
There is indeed a way to edit the cue points and beatgrid, the way for it is straightforward but not necessarily easy to find if you don't know where to look.
To edit the initial cue points, go to the "Waveforms" view (tap the button at the top left-hand corner of the main screen, with the kind of sine wave-esque look to it), which will bring up each track's waveform. Then, a button will appear in the middle of the screen right under the sync indicator at the top. That button enables the beatgrid controls panel. There, you'll be able to change the BPM by expanding/contracting the beatgrid, and moving it around.
Also, to change the initial cue point, simply tap to the point of the track where you are trying to set it (while the track is on pause), and then tap the "Cue" button of the corresponding deck to set the track's initial cue point where you see fit. That cue point will also be saved for next time you fire up the app.
Gotta admit, I never tried any Led Zeppelin though!
Cheers,
Alex @Mixvibes
Congrats. Your app is definitely coming along. I'll buy all the IAPs as soon as there are better options for importing my own samples from audioshare/audiocopy. Until then, this isn't really useful to me.
